Extended Summary

Colby goes for a dip in the sea and encounters Mackenzie on the beach. She quickly deduces that he’s hung over and invites him to Salt, saying she’ll fix him a greasy breakfast. Colby initially says it’s not a good idea, then changes his mind and asks if there’ll be bacon. At the garage, Ziggy tells Justin about Jasmine and Colby getting drunk. Justin says Jasmine’s been all over the place recently but seems to hesitate when Ziggy reminds him of the phantom pregnancy. He asks about Ben; Ziggy tells him about the medication mix-up. She also admits that he clams up whenever Maggie’s in the room.

Roo runs into Ryder outside the house and he explains he’s late for work, giving a list of calamities including missing a call from Quinn and trying to phone her back, having to air his uniform shirt because he hadn’t washed it, having to make breakfast and losing his keys. He hurriedly exits, passing Maggie. Roo thought she was visiting Ben. Maggie says he didn’t want her there and she may have made things worse. At Salt, Colby tells Mackenzie the breakfast isn’t helping. Ryder arrives and apologises for being late. Colby asks him to keep it down. Ryder, without changing his volume, realises Colby has a hangover and takes a photo to remind himself not to get drunk. Mackenzie asks Colby what happened and he tells her about his divorce being finalised. As they talk, Mackenzie mixes a group of disparate items including sauce and raw eggs and hands the result to him as a hangover cure. Colby takes a gulp and terms it disgusting. Mackenzie says it took his mind off the hangover.

Dean and Willow enter the surf club downstairs. Willow thinks Dean should go and talk to Colby, saying his timing was off, but Dean isn’t keen. John tells them that Colby went upstairs with Mackenzie. They head up there where Dean is unhappy to find Colby there. Mackenzie says she invited him and Colby tells her what Dean said about her dodging a bullet. Willow tries to say that Dean didn’t mean that but Dean says he did. Colby walks out and Dean refuses to explain to Mackenzie.

Colby is playing at the pool table downstairs when Willow comes down to see him. She asks him why he picked a fight with Dean last night, saying he basically told him that he doesn’t deserve to be with Ziggy, which is something that’s always worried Dean. Colby tells her not to let him drink that much again but Willow says he should do that himself: Instead of blaming Chelsea, Bella or Dean, he should fix his own life. Meanwhile, Roo and Maggie are chatting outside. Maggie says she knows she’s hurt Ben but she can only apologise enough so she needs to know if he wants to save their marriage. She says she left him alone to think about it. Roo wonders what she’s going to do if he doesn’t give the answer she wants. Maggie says she can’t force him to stay.

A nurse asks Ben if Maggie’s coming to pick him up. When he says she isn’t, the nurse offers to phone a taxi but Ben says he’ll sort something. At the garage, Justin asks Ziggy if she likes working there and explains he wants to give her more responsibility and about his plans to expand and take a business course. Ziggy says it’s perfect timing because she’s just finishing her TAFE assessments. She gets a call from Ben wanting her to pick him up and concludes he hasn’t sorted things out with Maggie.

Ryder enters the surf club carrying boxes. His phone starts ringing and he tries to get John to answer it, but since it’s in his back pocket John refuses. By the time Ryder has put down the boxes it’s finished ringing. He sees the call is from Quinn but, when Dean and Mackenzie come downstairs, hurriedly gets back to work. Mackenzie tells Dean she wants to stay friends with Colby. Willow appears and says she spoke to Colby. Mackenzie excuses herself as Willow explains she told him to sort his life out. She thinks Dean should talk to him too but Dean says it’s up to Colby to sort out. Meanwhile, Colby is on the pier, remembering Willow and Dean’s words. He calls McCarthy and says he wants to come back to work.

Maggie is looking at her phone when Ben arrives home with Ziggy. She starts to say she’s glad to see him but Ben abruptly says he’ll be in Coco’s room and walks off. Maggie apologises to Ziggy, who hugs her. Later, Ziggy and Dean are on the beach. Ziggy says she didn’t think they would split up and she felt sorry for Maggie, realising she was young and made a mistake. Dean points out she also lied, which some people would consider a deal-breaker. Ziggy recalls how scared Ben was of losing Maggie when she was ill and wonders if he’s not thinking straight because of the depression and will regret this. She wonders if she should get them talking but Dean says it’s not up to her to fix.

Maggie finds Ben in the kitchen and wonders if he wants her to move out or if they should try marriage counselling. Ben says he’s tried but he can’t get past the fact she’s been lying to him their whole marriage, so it looks like they’re separating. Maggie says she’s no idea what her life is like without him. Ben agrees, but walks away anyway. Meanwhile, at Salt, Ryder leaves a message for Quinn as he’s leaving. Colby arrives and Ryder teases him. Colby joins Willow at the bar and tells her about arranging to get back to work; he just needs to hand in his medical certificate. Mackenzie appears and jokes about her hangover cure working. She tells Colby to leave her out of his and Dean’s arguments. Willow encourages Colby to go talk to Dean.

An older man, Evan, arrives outside the caravan park house carrying a guitar case. He knocks on the door but gets no answer, so looks around. Meanwhile, Colby runs into Dean and Ziggy coming up from the beach. Ziggy leaves the boys to it. Colby says Dean is right that Mackenzie’s better off without him and that he’s made bad choices, and also apologises for suggesting he shouldn’t be with Ziggy. Dean accepts and says next time he’ll tell Colby something to his face. He then teases him about Jasmine, saying he still has the photo of them kissing at the night club and he shouldn’t get drunk around her.

Ryder arrives home to find Evan outside playing guitar. Evan knows who Ryder is. Ryder notes Quinn used to play the tune Evan was playing. Evan says he used to play it with her. After noting he’s tried to work out how to say this, he explains that he’s Ryder’s father.
