Extended Summary

Maggie tells Ben she heard about his conversation with the lawyer. Ben says he just wanted answers and his lawyer arranged for him to speak with the AFP: He wasn’t allowed to take his phone in and it was gone midnight by the time he got out, which is why he didn’t call her. At the motel, Jasmine is packing her suitcase while Robbo finishes a phone call. He says Scott is sorting out the passport and the last of the paperwork, after which he’ll pick her up; Robbo can’t take her because it has to look like a normal work day. Jasmine points out she doesn’t normally take a suitcase to work. Robbo realises she’s right and tells her to pack some essentials in her work bag, after which her suitcase will be sent on. Jasmine says they have to make every second count.

Raffy is looking at uni brochures when Justin turns up at the Palmer house with lunch. Raffy says she told Marilyn she didn’t need a babysitter while Marilyn was visiting Jett in the city, but Justin didn’t want to leave her alone in case she has a seizure. He notices she’s looking at medicine but she says there’s no point since she needs an ATAR of 99.95. Back at the farm house, Ben tells Maggie that the feds took him through everything about the board factory but this time they listened and believed him. They still have to find the people responsible but he’s glad they haven’t given up on him. He acts as though he’s about to leave but accepts Maggie’s offer to stay for dinner.

Ryder comes downstairs at the surf club and Roo asks if they can talk now. Ryder realises she’s going to try and talk him into going to uni again but Roo says she just wants to discuss his options. Ryder grabs Alf and says they’re having a driving lesson. Alf asks what happened to his surf lesson with Dean. Ryder says Dean’s mum happened. Soon after, Roo has somehow ended up in the back seat and is continuing to talk about Ryder’s future and how he might not want to be a barman forever as both Alf and Ryder try to concentrate on the lesson. Just as things are getting heated, the vehicle grinds to a halt. Roo points out they’re out of petrol. Alf says Ryder should have checked the gauge; Ryder says Roo was distracting him. Roo asks if it’s supposed to be her fault. Alf and Ryder both say yes.

Ben and Maggie clear away after eating. Maggie says she’ll package up some food for Ben to take, noting Dean will eat it otherwise. Ben finds a card with Aiden Wilcox’s number on it. Maggie says it’s not for him but for her, explaining about her call to Beyond Blue and how they thought seeing a psychologist might help her understand. At the motel, Robbo and Jasmine are in bed. Jasmine wishes that it didn’t have to end and there was another way, which Robbo agrees with. He says they have to remember that they’re each other’s second chance at life.

Justin is making a rather feeble attempt to gee up Raffy when Alex arrives. She says she’s had a call about a new trial but it’s in Victoria. Raffy doesn’t mind but Justin does. He points out that the last time they had to do tests. Alex says they can send the results from last time but they do need a guardian’s permission. Raffy notes that with Tori away it’s down to Justin: She says she can stay with Brody but Justin says they’d have to ask him. Raffy has heard from Mason about the earlier trial Justin didn’t tell her about. Justin says she’s got her HSC but Raffy retorts that she’s failing it. She walks out; Alex apologises. Justin goes looking for her and finds Alf and Ryder pushing the car off the road with Roo inside. Justin wonders how the petrol got so low and Roo says Alf drives around looking for the cheapest price. Justin takes a can to get petrol and Alf goes with him. Left alone with Roo, Ryder challenges her to give him a lecture, so when he throws his life away she can say she did her best. Roo smiles and says she’s done and it’s his life, walking away.

Ben tells Maggie he understands it’s hard on her and wishes he could be stronger. Maggie says she doesn’t need him to be strong, she just needs him to be there. Ben assures her he loves her, then leaves. Meanwhile, Roo finds Raffy at the Diner and notes that Justin’s been looking for her. Raffy explains about the trial. Roo tries to talk about her own problems but Raffy talks over her, noting Ryder could do anything he wants but just works in a bar. Roo suggests the HSC isn’t the only way to get into uni but Raffy says the real problem is that she can’t concentrate enough to do the work.

Jasmine is now dressed for work. Robbo gives her a last few instructions. Jasmine worries that people will come after him once they realise she’s left and isn’t reassured by him saying that he’ll be ready. She asks him to promise that she’ll see him again. He is saved from having to do so by Scott’s arrival. Meanwhile, Ryder turns up at the Diner and tells Roo that the moment passed for the driving lesson. He decides to walk her to the gym, saying that they need to talk. Raffy tells Justin that she understands why he doesn’t want her to go to Victoria and Roo has suggested other options: She could take a bachelor of science and either transfer to medicine or get into medical research.

Roo and Ryder arrive at the surf club. Ryder says he can’t go to uni for her and Roo says she just wants him to have options. Ryder says he’s decided to go to TAFE and take a Category III in Hospitality. Roo is pleased. At the Palmer house, Justin stops Raffy doing enrolment forms when Alex turns up. Justin has decided they should look into the Victoria trial more. He’s spoken to Brody who is happy for her to stay with him if she gets in and Alex has the consent forms.

Scott gives Jasmine her passport and ticket, saying he’ll stay with her until the plane leaves. Jasmine asks who she blames for her new name. Robbo says Lance chose it; it’s better he doesn’t know what it is or where she’s going. Scott says they have to be on the plane at four but leaves Robbo and Jasmine a few moments to say their goodbyes as they hug and kiss. After Jasmine’s gone, Robbo goes to the evidence room. He puts the lid back on the box of the photos of his family and starts to clear up the rest of the papers but ends up just sinking to the floor. Meanwhile, the car has been run off the road and Scott is lying prone on the ground in a pool of blood. Two thugs have grabbed Jasmine; one of them, Lenny, has blood on his front and tells the other, Fitz, he’s been shot. Despite this, they get Jasmine into their car and drive off.
