Extended Summary

Robbo meets up with Scott near the beach. He’s looked into every GP and other medical centre nearby and none of them remember Dylan. Scott says the break-ins turned out to be kids who didn’t take any of the things on Jasmine’s list. Meanwhile, Dean, Ziggy and Karen arrive at the surf club. Karen is playing with the ring tones on her new smart phone, which Dean is regretting buying her. Ziggy notes they’ve sorted her out with Centrelink and with clothes. Karen says she’s going to get a job, claiming she’s had lots in the past. Dean says to name five that she kept for a week. Mackenzie walks past as they talk and waits on the stairs. Dean tells Karen he has to see his boss and gets Ziggy to buy Karen a juice.

Dean joins Mackenzie, who notes things seem to be going well. Dean says it’s been a week and nothing’s gone wrong. Mackenzie asks when he’s coming back to work. Dean admits he hasn’t told Karen about Mackenzie yet and isn’t going to; he isn’t expecting her to stick around. Mackenzie however is running a business and reminds him he’s meant to be starting the surf lessons. Downstairs, John is slightly unnerved to see Karen with Ziggy, wondering if she drove there. Karen recalls that John’s the boss and asks if there’s any jobs going. John laughs for a few seconds, then says no.

At the Diner, Irene, Leah, Roo and Marilyn all express concern about the inflammatory comments. Irene asks Leah why she got the people involved. Leah thought Irene would appreciate some support and Irene says she did until this. Teresa arrives with some men and women from the group, saying they need a plan of attack. Back at the motel, Robbo is frustrated at another dead lead. Scott says they’ll look into back alley doctors and if Dylan has any relatives that could help him but one possibility is that Dylan got out of the country. He suggests looking at CCTV from airports. Robbo doesn’t think it will help but admits he hasn’t got a better idea so they should call Lance.

Maggie approaches Alf outside the bait shop and asks if he’s seen Ben, since he’s not at his van. Alf mentions hearing him on the phone to his lawyer. Ziggy and Karen come up; they’ve been in Yabbie Creek all day and Karen doesn’t exactly help by saying she’ll let them know if he pays her a visit. She decides to ask about a job at the Diner. Roo and Marilyn are watching Irene and Leah sat with Teresa and the others, with Roo commenting that they look like they’ve got pitch forks, when Karen asks them about the job. She’s told Irene and Leah decide so sits down to wait. Teresa wants Irene to be a face for their campaign and bring about change. Irene says her lawyer’s told her not to talk about the case but Teresa replies that the jury’s deliberating in lockdown. Irene admits she doesn’t want to be part of a cause; she just wants to get the verdict and move on. Teresa says it’s Irene and Bella’s cause too and accuses her of asking for their support and giving nothing back. She and the others leave. Ziggy tells Karen she has to check on Maggie. Leah, Roo and Marilyn all approve of Irene’s decision. Irene apologises to Leah for having a go, saying she’s been a good friend. Leah says it’s okay and promises to sort things out with Teresa.

Out on the beach, Ziggy runs into Dean. She tells him that Karen seems to be serious about sticking around, since she’s asking for a job at the Diner. She thinks Dean should tell her about Mackenzie. Dean disagrees but Ziggy says it’s better from him than from the ladies at the Diner. Dean says he’ll make sure that doesn’t happen. Inside, Karen is giving her pitch to Leah but Leah says they don’t have much of a staff turnover and there’s no jobs at the moment. Dean joins them and Karen suggests he can put in a word for her at Salt. Dean says his boss isn’t there at the moment and convinces her to stay at the Diner for dinner.

At the farm house, Maggie leaves a phone message for Ben. She tells Ziggy what Alf heard and worries that Ben has gone to have a go at the lawyer in person; they’ve spent a lot of money on him. Back at the Diner, Dean tries to dissuade Karen from staying in Summer Bay, saying there aren’t many jobs around. He suggests she tries Reefton Lakes, since there’s always jobs at the league club. Karen agrees to him taking her there tomorrow.

Scott tells Robbo that they’ve got a team looking at the footage but there’s thousands of hours to go through. Robbo gets a text saying “48 hours”. Scott notes they have one last option and wonders if he should pick Jasmine up from work. Robbo says to let her finish her shift and he’ll tell her in the morning. Next day, Robbo goes for a run near the beach. He stops and looks around.

Leah meets Teresa at Salt. She understands Teresa’s upset but says not everyone’s as strong as her. She observes Irene’s from a different generation and has only just started telling people what happened. Teresa agrees there wasn’t the support then but says that’s why they need to make sure victims aren’t treated as criminals. Leah offers to promote the cause on her vlog. At the Diner, Ziggy and Maggie are fretting about Ben. They ask Leah and Roo, who have just come in, but neither of them have seen him today. Leah consults with Irene and Marilyn, saying she’s sorted things with Teresa. Dean comes in looking for Karen, who didn’t turn up for the trip to Reefton Lakes. He jokes that maybe Ben and Karen are together, provoking a glare from Maggie. Dean and Ziggy go to look for them both.

At Salt, Mackenzie is at the bar with her back to the entrance. Karen comes up behind her, introduces herself and says she’s looking for a job. Near the bait shop, Robbo comes to a halt on his run. Alf asks if anything’s wrong. Robbo asks how do you tell your wife she’s got to leave you. Back at Salt, Mackenzie tells Karen there aren’t any jobs but Karen says she’ll do anything.

Dean and Ziggy arrive downstairs and ask John if he’s seen Ben or Karen. John says he hasn’t seen Ben but saw Karen going upstairs dolled up. Dean guesses it’s for a job interview and John wonders if they’re hiring a bouncer. Upstairs, Mackenzie tries to put Karen off, saying it can be dirty work (Karen says she used to gut fish) and has more of a uni student vibe. Karen asks what Mackenzie’s problem with her is. Dean and Ziggy interrupt, although Ziggy quickly beats a retreat. Dean explains Mackenzie is Rick’s daughter and his sister. Mackenzie looks uncomfortable, Karen looks furious.
