Extended Summary
Justin, Brody and Simone walk towards the surf club. Mason spots them and they explain what happened. Mason is unsympathetic and, when Simone asks what she can do, sharply says that she’s done enough. Justin defuses things slightly by sending her to get the picnic stuff. Meanwhile, Ben and Ziggy arrive back at the farm house and explain to Maggie about Ziggy hitting Brody. Ziggy is unrepentent but does ask for some ice for her hand.
At the gym, Mason helps patch Brody up while Justin looks on. Mason remains unsympathetic however, annoyed that Brody isn’t bothered by the effect his going public had. Brody leaves to find Simone. Justin tries to remind Mason that Brody’s their brother and says he thinks Simone’s the real thing but Mason points out that’s what Ziggy was supposed to be. At the caravan park, Simone sees Raffy and Ryder with books to revise for tomorrow’s exam. She tries to arrange another tutoring session but Raffy suggests Simone’s too busy home-wrecking. As the teens walk off, Brody arrives. Simone reflects that all his family hate her, as do Ziggy and Maggie.
Ben is dipping Ziggy’s hand in ice water. Maggie answers the door and finds Brody there. He asks to speak to Ziggy alone and Ziggy agrees. Brody apologises but also says she needs to get used to seeing him with Simone. Ziggy threatens to break his jaw and Brody says he’s obviously wasting his time expecting her to be an adult. Ziggy slams the door shut, then breaks down in front of Ben and Maggie, saying she can’t handle it. Brody heads to Salt where Justin is waiting for him. Brody accepts that everyone sees him as the bad guy for leaving Ziggy for Simone. Justin checks that he’s serious about Simone.
Ben tries to get Ziggy to give the surf another try. Ziggy isn’t keen on risking seeing Brody and Simone and Ben ponders that once they’d have run them out of town, wondering if they’d move. Ziggy says Brody would never leave Salt but Simone might leave if she didn’t have a job. Maggie is shocked when Ben and Ziggy both indicate they want her to fire her. Meanwhile, at the Diner, Ryder orders some large ice cream sundaes from Leah while Raffy is on the phone to Marilyn. Raffy tells them that John and Marilyn are flying back with Jett. Justin comes in and asks that Raffy be home for a big family dinner. Raffy agrees if Ryder can come too so they can study. After the teens have gone, Justin tells Leah he’s hoping to build bridges between the family and Simone.
Raffy and Ryder set the table as Justin explains to them and Mason that Brody provided the food…and Simone’s coming. Raffy in particular is not happy about this, with Justin adding Tori had to work. He says they have to get used to Simone being Brody’s partner. Brody and Simone arrive; Simone has brought cake, which Raffy considers a bribe. Later, Simone tries to make small-talk about doctors in the family and Mason explains about not getting a placement. Ryder clears the table as Mason takes Raffy aside and tells her to go back to being tutored by Simone: It’ll explain why she’s improved and help with her HSC. Raffy complies and serves Simone’s cake, which Simone explains is her grandmother’s recipe.
Maggie tells Ben it wasn’t fair to try to get her to sack Simone: She wishes she hadn’t employed her, but the students need her and they’d lose funding without her. Ben accepts it but is worried about Ziggy. Next morning, Ben and Maggie greet Ziggy with a chorus of “Happy Birthday” and a stack of pancakes with a candle on top. Ziggy says she’s not doing birthdays this year. Maggie heads off to work after giving her a kiss on the cheek. Ben reminds Ziggy of how they nearly lost Maggie and says he got through it by focusing on what he could control…which in her case is her job. Ziggy isn’t sure she’s got one after yesterday and Ben tells her to find out. Ziggy blows out the candle.
Brody and Simone are at Salt. Both are feeling a bit more optimistic after the dinner and Raffy agreeing to be tutored again. Simone gets a text from Maggie asking her to come see her and suspects she’s going to be fired. Meanwhile, Ziggy turns up at the garage (in normal clothes) and tells Justin she’s going to the movies once he’s fired her. Justin says he mustn’t have got that memo; he doesn’t love that Ziggy hit Brody but understands why she did and apologises for keeping things from her. Ziggy understands he’s loyal to Brody. Justin hands her a cloth and Ziggy says she’ll skip the movie.
Simone nervously enters Maggie’s office. Maggie says she’ll support it if Simone requests a transfer but Simone declines. Maggie says Simone’s a gifted teacher who has helped Bella and Raffy, so she’ll stop making things difficult for her at work but wants her to stay away from Ziggy. Simone agrees. Back at the Morgan house, Mason asks Raffy if she’s excited about John and Marilyn’s return. Raffy is worried what it’ll mean for the trial if she’s back living with them, since Mason won’t be able to monitor her or give her the oil. Mason tells her not to worry about it. Raffy also thinks it might have stopped working since she’s anxious. Mason says that’s just pre-exam jitters and she hasn’t had any seizures. He starts taking her blood pressure.
At the Diner, Leah asks Justin about the dinner. Justin thinks things went well and his only regret is that he didn’t force Brody to tell Ziggy sooner. Ryder is nearby waiting for Raffy. He calls her and they arrange to meet up. At the house, Mason has attempted to distract Raffy by doing the tests again. He gives her the drop and she convinces him to let her clear up. After making sure he’s gone, she takes a second drop.
