Extended Summary

John drives Harper down to the beach in the buggy, noting he’s never given anyone a lift before. He shows her a spot that he thinks would be good for the wedding, pointing out where the bridge and groom and the guests would be. Harper takes photos to send to Tane. John notes he heard about her public declaration and is surprised Tane isn’t there. Harper says he had to work, despite John pointing out he’s the boss. John says he’s glad she’s getting a wedding more like she wanted.

They head back to the surf club where John notes he can get her chairs from there, adding this isn’t normally the celebrant’s job but time is short and they need to make decisions. Harper says she’s going to talk to Tane right now. She runs into him a moment later but he looks confused when she tells him she thinks the beach is best, since he hasn’t had a chance to look at the photos yet, eventually telling her he’s happy with whatever she wants. Harper tries to tie him down on the number of guests but Tane isn’t really engaging with the conversation, saying he has to pack up a boot camp and is happy with what she decides.

Remi comments that he and Sonny last met at a concert in Hopetoun, when Mercedes was there and Sonny was flying out to South America in the morning. Sonny confirms he dropped in on Remi’s parents when he got back to the country, saying they view him as the son they never had. Kirby passes them on her way back to work and brushes off Sonny’s joking attempts to call her playing hard to get. Sonny’s heard Remi has a girlfriend and Remi says Bree’s the one thing his parents have approved of.

Justin turns up at the coffee cart and convinces Leah to make one last coffee for him, saying he’s her best customer. Leah protests that he never pays and he argues that he doesn’t charge her to fix her car either. Justin explains that Theo has gone to Yabbie Creek to pick up some car parts. Leah ends up pressganging him into helping her take things back to the Diner.

John meets with Tane and Harper at the Parata house to go through some things. He asks about readings, which Tane doesn’t really have any thoughts on. Harper confirms Dana will be maid of honour but Tane hasn’t decided on a best man yet. The subject of rings comes up and Harper suggests white gold which Tane casually agrees to.

Later, John notes they’ve given him something to be getting on with and leaves, advising them to think about music. Tane wonders if that’s more about the reception. Harper asks Tane if he’s interested at all, noting it’s not the first wedding he’s planned. Tane says it’s her dream and Harper says it doesn’t mean anything if he’s not involved.

Remi guesses Sonny heard about his windfall from a girl he hooked up with. Sonny says it was Kayla Peterson and Remi’s the talk of the town. Remi argues he’s spent the money on a rehearsal space, new equipment and dinners with Bree. Outside the surf club, Mali tells Kirby not to feel any pressure, which immediately gets her worried, and asks if she thinks they should use the new posters for advertisement. Before she can answer, Remi and Sonny appear. Kirby does the introductions, explaining Sonny used to live next door to Remi and go to school with him. Sonny says he played the clarinet in the school orchestra with him and Remi retorts that Sonny sucked. Sonny invites them all up for a drink.

Tane joins Harper, who is sitting on the bed and says she just needed a minute. Tane says he thought he was doing the right thing in giving her the wedding she wanted. Harper says she didn’t want to do it alone. Tane says he’ll be there and Harper says she wants it to be meaningful to them both. At the surf club, Kirby and Mali are preparing to head up to Salt but Mali asks for an answer about the posters first. Kirby agrees, since she looks like herself again. She gets a text from Sonny saying he’s dying of thirst and comments on how he’s exhausting.

Remi, Sonny, Kirby and Mali go upstairs, with Sonny noting at least it’s a small town with a bar and decent food. He suggests they get to Eden to join them and they tell him she’s away with her boyfriend and also works there. Sonny is surprised she’s committed to both a job and a relationship. Mali asks Remi about Bree, and Sonny is surprised to hear she’s a doctor. He announces to the crowd that the drinks are on Remi. John, who has just come in, heads to the bar, thanking him for his generosity.

At the Diner, Leah tells Justin that Theo isn’t going to be home for dinner since he’s staying at the garage to work on the car. She considers taking some food round to him but Justin convinces her to let Theo be his own man. Harper comes in for a peppermint tea. Leah starts lobbying to do her wedding cake, convincing her to sit down and look at some photos.

Sonny is handing out drinks at Salt. Kirby and Mali comment on him being generous with other people’s money. Not too far away, John advises Remi to be careful of Sonny. Sonny comes over and Remi jovially tells him John thinks he’s using him for his money. He does the introductions before handing Sonny his credit card.

Leah, Justin and Harper are looking over the photos. Harper is drawn to one and Leah tries to put her off before admitting it’s Tane and Felicity’s cake. Harper gets a text from Tane asking to meet. As she leaves, John turns up. He tells Leah and Justin about Sonny, commenting on old friends turning up when you’ve just won the lottery.

Remi and Sonny arrive back at the Lyrik house. Remi admits he and Eden aren’t talking at the moment but Sonny says they’ve often fallen out and made up. He takes Remi’s phone asking to see a photo of Bree, and Remi obliges. Remi asks how much money Sonny’s intending to spend and Sonny asks how creative he’s willing to be.

Mali and Kirby look at the framed poster behind the board shop before Mali convinces her to go. Harper comes over, saying Tane asked her to meet him at the gym then left a note saying “Upstairs”, wondering why he didn’t say that in the first place. Mali suggests he’s too hungry to think straight. Harper goes upstairs and finds Tane has set up a romantic meal for them on the balcony. He gives her a flower and tells her he’d do anything for her and Archie, and she’s giving him the future he wanted and he wants their wedding day to be perfect. As he speaks, he produces an engagement ring and places it on her finger.

Remi asks Sonny what his parents are doing. Sonny says they’re living up the coast as hippies: His dad had his eyes opened by the bankruptcy and now lectures him on the evils of capitalism. Kirby comes home and declines a beer, saying she’s heading off to bed, which Sonny jokingly takes as an invitation. Remi asks him if anything’s ever happened between them and Sonny says Kirby has more taste. He admits he hated Remi when his family lost their money and had to move out. Remi says he knows.

Harper is lying in bed next to a sleeping Tane, staring at her engagement ring in a morose fashion. She takes her phone and slips out of bed to the living room, calling Dana and saying Tane finally gave her the ring and it’s everything she could have hoped for…but he still can’t say he loves her.
