Extended Summary

Cash and Eden are outside the surf club, having just arrived back from their getaway. John appears and is glad to see them. He asks if there are any updates and Eden says they’re still just pleased to be back together. John comments on her new house guest, saying a friend of Remi’s was spending his credit card. Eden realises he means Sonny. Cash repeatedly tries to ask who that is.

At the Lyrik house, Sonny wakes Remi up by playing the guitar loudly in his room. Remi demands the guitar back, having previously threatened to tie Sonny to the back of his bike and drag him down the highway if he touched it. Sonny asks if his imaginary girlfriend’s allowed to touch it. Remi says that, unlike him, Bree’s mature. Sonny looks through the cupboards and wonders why he only has tinned tuna and instant noodles. Remi says he’s shouting some idiot breakfast. Sonny asks if he can come.

Tane is checking on Harper before heading into work. She says the baby kept her up. Tane offers to have a word, telling the bump that his mum needs a rest because she’s tired and grumpy. He checks she’s okay with the ring before heading off, saying he’ll see her at the wedding meeting with John. Harper doesn’t seem able to keep a smile on her face.

John runs into Justin and Theo after a surf. Justin suggests going to Salt for breakfast but Theo reminds him he has loan repayments. John wonders why and Theo tells him about buying an old car to do up. John protests that a car is a depreciating asset. Theo says he’s had enough opinions and walks off. Justin tries to convince John he’s thought it through.

At Salt, Eden explains to Cash that Sonny was there when Lyrik started, and even earlier for Remi, cheering them on and pulling people in. She admits she probably won’t see much of him since she’ll not be spending much time at home. Remi and Sonny then walk in and Sonny and Eden warmly greet each other. Remi snarkily says Cash is either Eden’s new boyfriend or her old boyfriend, before giving Sonny his card and leaving. Sonny tries to claim to Cash that he and Eden spent a night together once and it was the best night of her life but Cash isn’t listening and leaves.

Cash follows Remi home, where Remi comments on the irony of Cash trying to lecture him on Eden. He says that he heard Eden crying about him every night, he begged Cash to see sense and he kept on hurting her, and there’s nothing to say it won’t happen again. Cash argues that she’s forgiven him but Remi says he’ll never accept them together.

Harper gets a text from Dana saying she’s at the airport and they’ll both need a hug when she comes home. Cash turns up and explains about Remi thinking he’ll hurt Eden again, saying he can’t see that he loves Eden and she means the world to him. Harper bursts into tears. Meanwhile, Eden and Sonny are walking by the beach. Eden has filled Sonny in. Both of them can see Remi’s point, and Eden admits she’d be the same if the positions were reversed, but she thinks they need to move on. Sonny encourages her to talk to Remi but she says it’s his problem.

Harper tells Cash about Tane buying her the ring, saying it was everything she wanted. She says Tane is kind and sensitive and she’s lucky to have him, but he’s never once told her he loves her. She says she thought she could handle it but she keeps getting her hopes up and thinking he’ll say it and then he doesn’t. Cash doesn’t think the baby is the only reason he’s marrying her. Eden turns up and realises Harper is crying but Harper excuses herself to go to the meeting.

Across the road, Theo is looking through the cupboards making similar comments to how Sonny did earlier. Sonny arrives back and Remi points out neither of them live there. Theo says he has loan repayments and refused to let Remi help out. He’s getting parts through suppliers at work. Sonny suggests he could get cheap parts online, saying it’s how he keeps his car going, which Remi backs up. Theo heads off to work. Sonny tries to convince Remi to trust Eden’s decision. Remi replies that he used to be fun.

Justin runs into John and Harper at the surf club, discussing wedding arrangements with them. They are waiting for Tane to finish a class and join them. John shows off Harper’s ring and Justin says he and Leah will help out if she wants, but the ceremony is about how the two of them love each other. He leaves as Tane arrives. Harper says she’s sorted out a guest list of about forty and Tane says he’d add a couple to that and has decided on a best man. At the Newman house, Cash is suggesting Eden should listen to Sonny but she reiterates that it’s Remi’s problem. They start to kiss but are interrupted by Tane looking for Cash. Eden excuses herself. Tane asks Cash to be his best man. Cash says he’ll have to think about it.

At the garage, Theo tells Justin about what Sonny said. Justin is sceptical even with Remi having said Sonny knows about cars. Theo shows him a water pump he’s found going cheap online. Justin is dismissive, saying they don’t know the suppliers, there’s no warranty and they don’t know how old it is. He thinks it’ll cost more money in the long run. Theo buys it anyway.

Cash has told Eden about Tane’s request and thinks it would be awkward because of Flick. Eden thinks Felicity would want him to do it. She wonders if what she walked in on is an issue. Cash admits Harper thinks Tane isn’t as invested as she is, although he also thinks Tane is serious about the wedding. Eden thinks Cash should support them. Cash muses that she wants Remi to support her in the same way.

Remi and Sonny are sitting in an awkward silence. Sonny suggests Remi and Eden should get over it, just before Eden arrives and asks to talk to Remi. Sonny says he’ll go out and get some actual food. He asks for Remi’s card and Remi reminds him he already has it. Later, Remi tells Eden he doesn’t understand why she’s back with Cash but argues he isn’t stopping them being together. He says Eden’s trying to convince herself that what happened wasn’t that bad and will never forgive himself if he agrees to this and it goes bad again.

Tane goes back to the surf club and tells Harper that Cash said he’d think about it and admits he thought he’d be happy and says yes. Harper asks who he wants at the wedding and he says his whanau from there and New Zealand and some of the trainers from work. Cash arrives and accepts being best man. Harper gets a text saying Dan’s back and hurries off to meet her. Cash asks Tane how he’s feeling.

The two of them go for a walk with Cash noting Tane asked him because of their history. He says he’s happy for him and Felicity would be too, but Tane isn’t like how he was the last time he married. He asks if he’s happy and loves Harper.
