Extended Summary

Belle tells Nicole that the doctors have only given her a short time left to live. A shattered Nicole is surprised to learn that Aden doesn’t yet know that Belle is dying. Belle insists that she will tell Aden, but she wants him to enjoy their wedding day first. Nicole refuses to play any part in the wedding if Aden doesn’t know.

Learning that Nicole has pulled out of the wedding, Aden pays her a visit and finds out what is going on. Nicole lies and tells him that it is just weird having a girl as your best man and suggests asking Geoff instead. Aden refuses to let Nicole off that lightly and insists that he just wants his wedding to be perfect. When an upset Nicole replies that there’s no such thing as perfect, Aden reacts badly and brands Nicole selfish. When a confused Aden talks about his disappointment to Belle, she pleads ignorance to what’s wrong with Nicole.

Amanda and Ryan return to Summer Bay for Belle and Aden’s wedding. Sensing that something is off, Amanda asks Belle if everything is okay but she insists she’s fine. Later, Amanda manages to lift Belle’s spirits when she presents her with the wedding present for Belle and Aden – a lavish honeymoon in Broome.

Later, Nicole insists that Belle can’t marry Aden without telling him. But Belle replies that she just wants the day to be special and asks Nicole to still attend the wedding. Geoff, having witnessed Belle and Nicole’s confrontation, tells Nicole that she can’t be arguing with the bride on the day before her wedding.

At Irene’s, Belle is struck with a sudden dizzy spell and collapses. Nicole, arriving to make peace, finds Belle collapsed on the floor and rushes her to hospital. When the doctors tell Belle that they won’t discharge her until her usual doctor has returned from a conference, Belle – who is meant to be attending a pre-wedding drinks party at the Surf Club – pleads with Nicole to lie for her and cover up the fact she’s in hospital.

Later at the Surf Club, Amanda thanks Aden for helping Belle through her addiction and rehab. Although Aden insists Belle is the strong one, Amanda thanks him anyway and says Belle is lucky to have him. Nicole arrives and Aden apologises for the dramas surrounding Nicole being the best man. Nicole then informs everyone that Belle won’t be attending the drinks as she’s had a busy couple of days and is tired. Sensing that something is wrong, Aden presses Nicole for details about where Belle really is.

Later, Aden and Nicole arrive at the hospital. Nicole apologises to Belle but insists she had to tell Aden the truth. Belle apologises and tells Aden she just wanted them to be happy. Piecing everything together, Aden realises that the reason Belle wanted to get married so quickly is because she hasn’t got much time left. Unable to cope with the prospect of losing her, Aden rushes out of Belle’s hospital room.

At home, Aden breaks down in Nicole’s arms and says he can’t live without Belle. Later, Belle – having discharged herself from hospital – arrives and tearfully pleads with Aden to open the door and talk to her. However, Aden tells Nicole not to answer the door.
