Extended Summary

David is on the phone to someone outside the surf club, apparently talking about tracking down Cohen’s father. Eden comes running out, enthusiastically announcing to everyone in sight that she and Remi are playing a gig while David tries to listen to his phone conversation. Eden realises what she’s done and asks if Cash told him she was a muso (he didn’t) before saying they haven’t played in a while and have lost half the band but it’s going to be great and he should come.

At the Lyrik house, Remi reminds Bree that he said he didn’t want to play music anymore and that forcing him to perform won’t help. Bree says that music didn’t cause their problems and she’s doing it for them. Before she can explain, Eden comes rushing in and gives Remi a hug, saying Mackenzie told her about the gig. Remi pulls away and walks out.

Roo finishes a phone call to the department and tells Alf that they confirmed David’s theory that the adoption’s been put on hold while the police check out the lead. She decides to go and ask him what’s going on. Cohen comes through, saying he’s ready. Roo says they might have to wait until tomorrow to get his school stuff. Alf offers to show Cohen how to clean the barbie.

At the police station, David shows Harper the ID of Adrian Purcell. He explains he was looking through Samantha’s police record and found that Adrian posted bail for her when she was a teenager and eight months pregnant. Harper notes it throws a spanner in the adoption and David says he had to tell the department. Roo, in earshot at the counter, asks if he really did. David say yes and invites her through so he can explain.

Bree explains to Eden that they were doing all right until Avalon’s song came out and she listened to it after drinking half a bottle of scotch. She says Remi is talking about giving up on music. Eden thinks that’s the guilt talking but Bree thinks he meant it and she was hoping the gig would let him enjoy music again.

Alf and Marilyn watch Cohen working at the barbecue. They discuss the possibility of Cohen’s father turning up. Marilyn recalls when Jett’s father turned up but decided he was better off with them. Cohen comes in for a bucket of water. Marilyn tries to offer him some treats from the Diner but Cohen is reluctant to take one and goes back to work.

David shows Roo what he’s found. Roo asks why he carried on looking when she was adopting Cohen. David says he found it while writing up his report and Harper agrees with him that it needs to be looked into. Roo protests that she’s trying to get Cohen a good home. David says they have to look into it. Meanwhile, Cohen joins Alf and Marilyn and suggests he uses the barbecue for a party for his friends when the adoption comes through. He also asks about getting Roo a present. Marilyn tries to offer him a treat again. Roo arrives back and Cohen says he understands if she’s changed her mind about adopting him. Roo looks bewildered.

Eden finds Remi outside the surf club and suggests he’s picturing their successful gig together. Remi says he can’t do what Bree wants him to do. Eden says he screwed up but Bree is still fighting for him. Meanwhile, Roo reassures Cohen that she hasn’t changed her mind and says it’s just that there’s a lot of paperwork and it’s very slow. After Cohen has gone for a walk, Alf expresses doubts about lying to him. Roo thinks it’s for the best until anything’s confirmed.

Harper calls Tane, saying to give Archie a cuddle and she’ll see him in the morning. David tells her that they’ve tracked down Adrian, local police have spoken to him and he’s coming in tomorrow. He doesn’t want to tell Roo until he’s spoken to him but says that unless there’s a very good reason to keep them apart, Cohen belongs with his family.

On the balcony at Salt, Eden tells Remi that part of her wants to strap a guitar on him and part of her wants to slap him. Remi says he wouldn’t have cheated on Bree if he hadn’t been playing on Avalon’s album. Eden suggests it was mainly down to his bruised ego at seeing Kirby move on without them and he owes it to Bree to do the gig.

Roo, Marilyn and Cohen come into the Diner. Roo invites Harper, who is at the counter, to join them but she says she’s getting takeaway. Cohen chats to Bree at the next table, saying he feels better now and telling her about the adoption. Roo quietly asks Harper if there’s any news and she says she’s not heard any. Next morning, Remi meets Bree on the beach and tells her he’s going to do the gig.

At the police station, Harper tells David she didn’t like lying to Roo. Adrian turns up and is introduced to them. He asks about Cohen and about what has happened to Samantha, saying he assumes something has or he wouldn’t be there. He says they were together for about a year and a half, then when Cohen was three months old, Samantha announced Cohen wasn’t his and disappeared. He didn’t know his rights so didn’t know what he could do.

Outside the surf club, Roo watches Alf and Cohen kicking a ball about. She gets a call from Harper and learns that Adrian is at the station and they want to do a DNA test. She tells Alf to keep an eye on Cohen and heads down there. Nearby, Remi and Bree run into Eden. Remi tells her what he’s decided. Eden thinks they need to start rehearsing straight away so Remi abandons plans to have coffee with Bree.

David gives Adrian some forms to fill out before they do the DNA test. He sees Roo at the counter and goes out to talk to her. Roo starts ranting about Adrian wanting to take Cohen away, asking if he knows she’s adopting him. David tries to cut her short. Adrian comes out and thanks her for looking after Cohen. Roo retorts that someone had to. David ushers Adrian back into the room and tells Roo that it’s a police matter and she should do her job as an emergency foster carer. Later, David tells Adrian that if the DNA is a match, then Roo can’t stop him seeing Cohen, but adds that Roo has done a fantastic job with him. Adrian takes out a photo of Cohen from when he was born, saying it’s the only photo he has of him.

Harper has gone to see Alf and Roo to see about taking Cohen for the DNA test. Roo asks her not to say what it’s about, claiming she doesn’t want Cohen to get his hopes up. Cohen comes down and Harper says she has to take him to the hospital. Roo says it’s a test to make sure his tonsilitis has cleared up. After Harper has taken Cohen to the car, Roo tells Alf that he belongs with them.
