Extended Summary

Perri comes rushing up to the surf club with Harper in tow and tells Tane about his assessment in the city, saying he’s officially not stupid. He suggests they go up to Salt to celebrate and Tane agrees. After Perri has gone ahead, Harper asks how Tane is coping over everything with Felicity. She also asks about Cash and Tane notes Eden says he’s still not accepted it.

At the Diner, Alf finds Justin helping Leah and Marilyn and they explain they’re putting a care package together for Cash and Eden. Alf offers to take it, since he’s heading down there. Leah says she needs to call VJ and tell him she loves him, and Marilyn says she needs to hear Jett’s voice. Justin says they’ve all got calls to make.

Perri tells Tane he hasn’t got the full results but they suspect that he’s dyslexic. Harper says they’ve got a referral to Northern Districts and recommendations of a tutor. Tane glances over to the bar and has flashbacks to his last conversation with Felicity and her collapsing. He quickly leaves the table. Harper finds him crying on the balcony. He talks about how Felicity was looking forward to the future, happy for Cash and Eden, and they were finally getting on okay. He doesn’t want Perri to know about it, saying he’s going to be there for him.

Later, Mali is packing away his paint things when Tane and Perri arrive back. Perri tells Mali about being dyslexic and how he’s relieved he can do something about it. Tane isn’t listening, which disappoints Perri, who ends up going to bed early. Mali tries to get Tane to tell Perri what’s going on. Tane says he’s just discussed this with Harper. Mali says that makes two of them who think he’s made the wrong call.

Kirby arrives home and calls out for Remi but doesn’t get a response. She goes to her keyboard and starts tearfully playing. Next morning, Harper is on the beach and calls someone to confirm her 12 week scan. She runs into Justin and Kirby who have just been surfing. Justin asks if anyone’s heard from the hospital. Kirby says Eden told her Cash is still glued to Felicity’s bedside and Harper says he hasn’t responded to her messages. They discuss the fact he still hasn’t accepted it.

Mali finds Tane sat at the rotunda outside the house and deduces he hasn’t got much sleep. He tries to get him to go to the hospital but Tane says he’d just get in Cash’s way. Perri joins them and wonders what’s been going on with Tane. Tane says it’s just work stuff and apologises for not paying attention to him. At the surf club, Mali turns up with the canvas and thanks Kirby for giving him a push. Alf appears and Kirby shows him the painting, which is a larger version of Mali’s sketch. Alf note Martha would appreciate it.

Tane and Perri are setting up on the beach. Perri talks about how he considered calling his dad to tell him he’s not stupid until he remembered he’s never going to talk to him again. Tane looks up at the lighthouse and flashes back to when he and Felicity first said they loved each other. Perri realises Tane isn’t listening again and reminds him he was the one that wanted him to get assessed for his reading. He storms off to get the cones. Harper comes along and asks what’s going on.

Later, Harper tries to get Tane to explain to Perri, but Tane doesn’t want to get into it with him. Harper points out that handling things the way he is has just left Perri angry and confused. Perri comes along just as Tane walks away in frustration, saying he’s surrounded by memories of Felicity. Perri worries that he should drop the subject of the tutoring. Harper tells him it’s not that and Perri asks her to tell him what’s going on.

Kirby joins Mali up in Salt and tells him there’s a local art competition with a prize of $15,000 and she’s started filling out the form for him. Mali isn’t interested though and says it’s not the right time when their friend’s just died. Later, Kirby finds Mali about to take his painting home and tries to get him to hang it up, roping Alf in to help persuade him. Alf wonders why Mali doesn’t want to enter the competition. Mali still isn’t keen and leaves. Alf stops Kirby going after him.

Up in Salt, Harper has filled Perri in on Felicity. Perri checks she was Tane’s ex and wonders if they were going to get back together. Harper says she doesn’t know but she thinks Felicity was the love of Tane’s life. She exits the surf club and goes to get her car, where she bursts into tears. She calls Dana’s voicemail, saying she needs her.

Perri finds Tane outside the farm house and tells him that he knows about Felicity. Tane says it was too hard to talk about it. Perri encourages him to go and visit her while she’s on life support, saying he didn’t get to say goodbye to his mum when she died and thinking Tane will regret it if he doesn’t.
