Extended Summary

Mali is loading a board into the back of the van. Mackenzie emerges and says Tane hasn’t left his room and probably didn’t sleep last night. Mali suggests she visit Felicity but Mackenzie says they have staff who’ll want to know what’s going on. Mali offers to give her a lift. Outside the surf club, Rose follows Levi, asking if anything’s wrong and who Abby is. Levi admits she’s his younger sister. Rose asks if he’s heard about the theft from the surf club. Levi pretends he hadn’t. Rose reminds him he’s obliged to come to her with any information.

At the Diner, John and Justin have filled in Alf, Leah and Marilyn. Justin tells them Cash is in denial and won’t turn off the machines. Alf says no-one wants to do that and Marilyn asks if there’s really no hope. Alf gets a text from Rose wanting to meet and John tells him about the theft and how he left the surf club open. Alf says it’s not the end of the world. Later, Justin follows Leah as she heads to the coffee cart, talking about how hard it must be for Cash to be sat by Felicity’s bedside like that and how he wishes he could help. Leah obviously isn’t comfortable with the conversation.

Mackenzie and Mali arrive outside the surf club. She suggests he come up but he says he wants to take photos of the board (which has a sunset design on it) before giving it to the customer. Mackenzie runs into Levi, who says she’d only just got to sleep when he went out. She suggests he come up to Salt and try Abigail again. Kirby arrives and admires Mali’s design. They discuss Felicity and how Tane and Eden are coping with it.

Later, Mali gives the board to the customer. He drops a sheet of paper which Kirby finds contains a rather abstract sketch of a faceless figure and dark patterns. She teasingly holds onto it for a few moments before giving it back. Mali wants to chuck it out but Kirby thinks he should do something with it.

Levi tells Mackenzie he’s still getting voicemail. He notes he hasn’t had much to do with Abigail the last few years and barely knows her. Mackenzie opens the fridge and finds a note from Felicity that she used up all the champagne for Cash’s party: “Sorry not sorry.” Mackenzie bursts into tears and runs into the store room. Levi follows and comforts her.

Down in the surf club, Mali and Kirby are setting up for a class with Kirby saying there’s been a last minute addition. She senses she’s upset Mali. Mali explains he was working through some stuff, started sketching and ended up with that. Kirby understands, saying she’s the same with songwriting. They head off to the class together.

Mackenzie and Levi are sat on the balcony. Mackenzie worries about how much time she wasted fighting with Felicity and now she has to run Salt on her own again. Levi says she’s protecting what they built together. He offers to take her home but she declines. After Mackenzie’s gone, Levi gets a text from Abigail saying “U wouldn’t dob me in, right?” with a wink. At the Diner, Justin is hanging around and asks Leah to talk to him. Leah admits that thinking about Cash being by Felicity’s bedside is reminding her of sitting by him, being told there was no hope.

At Salt, Rose asks Alf and John for a list of the staff. John still thinks it was someone from the engagement party and Rose says she has the guest list. Levi listens in as John goes to get the staff list and Alf comments someone would have to be low to steal from them. Levi follows John downstairs and offers to give him back the money that was stolen as an anonymous donation. John accepts and Levi asks him to withdraw the report. John thinks the person that took the money should be punished. Levi says he’s trying to help someone that doesn’t want to be helped and asks him to look the other way.

Mali and Kirby do a short debrief after the class with Kirby noting some of them could do with being moved up to intermediate. She tries inviting him for a surf but he says he has things to do. Kirby tries talking about the drawing but he doesn’t think it’s important. Meanwhile, Mackenzie and Levi arrive home. Levi gets an alert that Abigail has withdrawn $150 using his credit card. Mackenzie thinks he should block it. Levi says in normal circumstances he’d be in the city looking for Abigail. Mackenzie convinces him to go and he convinces her to go and see Felicity.

Mali arrives back outside as Levi and Mackenzie emerge. They explain where they’re both going. As they drive off, Kirby pulls up behind Mali. She apologises for pushing him and gives him his sketchbook, a blank canvas and some painting materials, telling him to do with it what he wants. At the surf club, John tells Alf and Rose that he’s found the money in an envelope in the office. Alf protests that he didn’t see it. John says the important thing is Rose doesn’t need to investigate. They give him confused and exasperated looks before walking away.

Mali is sat outside the house, looking at his sketch. He sets up the canvas, pours the paint into a pallet and starts painting.
