John frets over debris on the beach. Levi’s marriage looms large for Mackenzie.

Extended Summary

Down on the beach, Justin and Theo show John all the stuff they’ve collected up, which includes a number of sealed containers. They wonder if they should chuck it but John decides they should transport it all up to the surf club. At the beach house, Bronte offers to pay rent despite not having a job or savings, or to help out with the bills. Irene says Bronte’s got enough on her plate and notes she couldn’t ignore her upset like she was. Bronte says a lot of people walked past her and calls Irene her guardian angel.

Mackenzie and Levi are in bed at the farm house and note it was better than unpacking after their holiday. Mackenzie says Levi’s about to get his unit at the hospital, encouraging him to be positive and calling it a fresh start. At the surf club, John finds some protective overalls and what Justin identifies as glow sticks. John calls it evidence of illegal activity but Theo thinks it’s gardening. John says it’s everything you need to grow drugs and asks if you’d need overalls for gardening. Justin suggests it might be to do with pesticides. John decides to call Maritime Safety to see if anything else has washed up or any boats have capsized.

Levi checks out the fridge and notes there’s not a lot there. Mackenzie recalls Mali saying his brother had raided it. Levi gets a text and finds his unit has been approved. Mackenzie suggests they go to Salt to celebrate and says she’ll get Xander to arrange something. Meanwhile, Irene is getting Bronte settled on the couch with a blanket. Bronte recalls having chemotherapy to try and reset her immune system. Irene goes to heat her a wheat pack. Bronte asks Irene about her brush with cancer. Irene says it was a long time ago. Bronte says Irene won her battle but she’s going to lose hers and will never get the life Irene’s had. Irene tries to tell her while there’s life there’s hope.

Mackenzie and Levi take their places at Salt. Xander brings them a bottle which he says is the best they’ve got since the top shelf stuff has run out. Mackenzie tells him where her secret stash is. Levi gets texts from Imogen first congratulating him on his new unit and then saying at least one of them’s moved on. He tells Mackenzie it’s just a mate congratulating him. Another text saying it’s all so easy for him prompts him to turn the phone off.

Downstairs, Justin and Theo are playing pool and wonder what John’s up to in the office. They go to see him and John says Maritime Safety hadn’t heard of anything and didn’t seem interested so he’s checking the tides himself to see where the stuff might have come from. He declines an offer to join them for a boys’ night in.

Xander comments on the fact Levi doesn’t look like he’s celebrating. Levi says he’s just thinking about how much work it’ll be. Mackenzie isn’t convinced so he says he feels bad about not calling his friend back. He goes away from the table and calls Imogen. He starts to say she should move on as well but she apparently hangs up on him.

Irene gets up during the night to get a glass of water. Bronte follows her down, at which point there’s a bump sound and Irene finds her at the bottom of the stairs. She says she came to check on her and got dizzy. Irene wants to get her to hospital but Bronte says she’s seeing her specialist in the morning. She says she can’t sleep because she feels thirsty and sick, and apologises for venting at Irene.

Levi is asleep in bed, with Mackenzie lying next to him. She leans over him to retrieve his phone and checks it, finding the last person he contacted was Imogen. Meanwhile, Bronte tells Irene there’s nothing that can be done for her here. Irene picks up on the remark and Bronte says there’s an experimental treatment in Canada but it costs close to $100,000 and there’s no family to help her out.

Next morning, Levi is at Salt and tells Mackenzie he’s checking the CVs of people who might help him at the unit. He gets a call from Mali saying there’s been a delivery at home. Mackenzie insists on going with him to check it, telling a bewildered Xander to handle the place on his own. When they arrive at the farm house, they find a number of boxes scattered around the front room. There is a letter from Imogen on one of them, saying she’s moving on. The boxes are full of Levi’s things, including a ripped up marriage certificate.

Irene is already up when Bronte comes downstairs. Irene suggests she at least ask her specialist about the new treatment and says they’ll raise the money if they have to. She offers to drive her to the hospital, saying it’ll be easier than the bus. Bronte is insistent that she goes on her own, saying she wants to have control over what she can. Irene says to call her if she changes her mind or needs a lift back.

At the beach, Justin and Theo find John has collected up another load of refuse, including deckchairs, wellington boots and a garden gnome. John accepts it’s most likely to be gardening supplies from a cargo ship and says he’ll keep hold of it at the surf club in case they find out who owns it.

Levi continues to sift through the boxes. He finds an envelope which he tries to hide. Mackenzie notices and he admits it’s addressed to her from Imogen but is unlikely to be anything good. Mackenzie opens it to find Imogen’s wedding rings and a letter saying she’s taken everything else.
