Marilyn panics. Irene’s new friend has a dark agenda. Can Bree win Remi back?

Extended Summary

Justin and Theo have just finished a surf and discuss Leah heading back to the clinic for a check-up. They run into Bree and discuss the film crew leaving before heading up for a coffee. However, as they approach the surf club, they run into Remi, who asks to speak to Bree. Justin and Theo leave them to it, quietly noting it looked complicated, and Remi and Bree decide to go somewhere quiet.

Roo and Marilyn arrive at the Diner. Marilyn wonders how angry Irene’s going to be before showing Roo the stock room piled high with boxes of food. She explains she ordered extra food because of the larger number of customers but now there’s no film, crew or fans. She’s not only worried about the money but the waste and needs to get rid of the food in a couple of days.

Harper greets Irene as she arrives home. Irene has a young woman, Bronte, with her, who she explains is going to be staying with them for a couple of days. She apologises for not ringing ahead but says it was last minute. Bronte asks if Harper is Irene’s daughter and Harper says she’s just her housemate. Irene shows Bronte to her room upstairs.

Roo is writing up the specials board and Marilyn tells her to include hamburgers and salad. Roo sarcastically suggests adding cutlery and chairs. Justin and Theo come in and Marilyn tries to get them to buy burgers. Roo explains the situation and Marilyn says the freezer’s full. Roo admits it will take the whole town turning up to clear it. Justin suggests holding a community barbecue and volunteers himself and Theo to help out. Marilyn reminds him that Irene isn’t her only boss and he says Leah won’t find out if Irene doesn’t. Soon after, Roo, Justin and Theo retrieve the barbecue from the surf club. Roo takes charge, saying she’ll print up some posters advertising it and that Justin will do the burgers, Theo the salad and sauces and she’ll serve. Justin says she’s turning into her dad, which she takes as a compliment.

Remi and Bree head up to the Diner flat. Remi says he’s got no right to ask but it threw him seeing her with Nelson. He wonders if she’s playing games. Bree says she and Nelson were saying goodbye: He’s gone to Italy and she declined to go with him. She says she doesn’t want to see the world with Nelson but with Remi: She wants them to get back together. Remi is bewildered, pointing out she broke up with him and went out with someone else and now wants to get back together. Bree says she loves him. Remi asks if he’s meant to be grateful she didn’t leave with Nelson and ends up walking out.

Irene, Harper and Bronte are sharing a cup of tea. Harper asks if Irene and Bronte are old friends. Irene says they just met at the hospital. Bronte says Irene saw her in the waiting room in a state and she poured her heart out to her. She asks how Irene and Harper met and Harper says it was similar: Irene took her and her sister in when they needed it. Bronte looks tired and asks to have a shower, wearily climbing the stairs. Irene again apologises to Harper for the last minute arrangements. She explains Bronte is waiting on test results for an autoimmune disease and is going through it on her own, so she thought some sunshine and sea would do her good. Meanwhile, Theo is collecting coffee from the surf club when Remi comes past. Remi tells him about Bree wanting to get back together. Theo thinks it’s simple because they love each other.

Irene takes Bronte to the Diner, calling it her second home and explaining she co-owns it with Leah. She introduces Marilyn to Bronte, and the nervous Marilyn introduces herself again before she and Irene have a catch-up, with Irene saying everything was fine with the health check-up and Marilyn saying everything‘s back to normal. Irene offers Bronte anything on the house but Bronte says she’s too stressed about the test results to eat and will go for a walk. Soon after, outside somewhere, Bronte rings someone saying Irene has her own house, owns a business with someone called Leah and is a total pushover.

Justin runs into Bree near the surf club and tries to invite her to the barbie. He asks if she’s all right. She says she’s not but no-one is at the moment, saying it’s Remi. Justin says it’s not easy moving on. Bree then gets a call from Remi asking to meet and goes to the Lyrik house. Remi says it’s always been her but reminds her when she needed time before committing, saying he needs that now. He says he can’t ask her to wait but Bree says she will. Remi says if they’re meant to be together then they will be.

Justin, Roo and Theo are serving customers on the beach and consider making it a regular thing. Harper chats to Roo about it being an old-fashioned community barbecue. She runs into Bronte who says the doctors don’t like her eating anything unhealthy. Harper says it’s to help out the Diner and the community step up when someone needs help.

Marilyn gets a text from Roo saying the barbecue’s been a hit. Irene has found the invoice and wonders where all the extra stock is. Marilyn nervously tells her about ordering extra food and then Justin, Roo and Theo organising the barbecue to use it all up. Irene tells her to just be honest next time. Bronte turns up and tells Irene she’s got her test results and it’s really bad news: They can’t do anything else for her.

Justin and Theo are packing the barbecue away when they notice a plastic tub by the water, marked “Chlorine”. Justin wonders if it’s been washed up. They find a small rubber ring and several other items in line with it. Meanwhile, back at the beach house, Bronte tells Irene she’s been told she’ll probably have six months and notes there was so much more she wanted to do. She offers to go but Irene tells her she can stay as long as she needs to.
