Mackenzie’s life hangs in the balance. Tane’s offended when Ziggy misjudges him. Lewis gives Jasmine an ultimatum.
Extended Summary
Dean is packing up after a surf lesson and is approached by Willow; they chat about the fact she’s made up with Bella. Mackenzie comes over and asks to have a word. Dean realises she’s made her choice and tells her to give him a couple of minutes to pack up. Meanwhile, Lewis and Jasmine are coming down the stairs from Salt. Jasmine isn’t sure about him reporting Christian, thinking the punch happened in the heat of the moment. Lewis is angry that she seems prepared to let Christian get away with it and walks away. Willow arrives and wonders if something’s wrong.
Tane turns up at the farm house and suggests he and Ziggy do something but she isn’t in the mood. She explains that she’s been bothered about what Mackenzie’s going through and wonders what she’d do in that situation. Tane wonders if she’s trying to tell him something and Ziggy assures him she’s just worried about Mackenzie. Meanwhile, Dean and Mackenzie arrive back at the flat. Mackenzie explains she’s decided to have the abortion. Dean accepts her decision but is bothered when she says she’s not going to tell Ari. Mackenzie says she’s not there looking for advice and just wants to know if he’ll take her to the appointment. Dean agrees but doesn’t seem happy.
Willow and Jasmine are walking on the pier, discussing what happened between Christian and Lewis. Jasmine says Lewis provoked him but Willow says you can’t just go around hitting people, although she does recall slapping Jasmine once. Jasmine understands Christian was wrong but isn’t comfortable with how happy Lewis is about it. Irene appears and they discuss Susie leaving before Willow tells her about Christian. Jasmine feels caught in the middle. She goes to the hospital and finds Lewis filling in an incident report. He says people have suffered because of Christian and this is another path to justice, and tells her to pick a size.
Willow goes to see Dean at the flat and is amused by the art and craft stuff lying about. Dean recalls the person he was before Jai came along and wonders where he’d be if Amber had made all the decisions and not told him. Willow encourages him not to think like that and Dean notes some people aren’t as lucky. He goes to Salt; Mackenzie thinks he’s there to learn when the appointment is and says it’s ten o’clock. Dean says he can’t go: He accept her decision but she’s not giving Ari a choice. Mackenzie is upset that he won’t support her like he said. Dean apologises and leaves.
Mackenzie goes home and tells Ziggy and Tane that Dean won’t go with her to the clinic. Tane agrees that if she’s not keeping the baby she shouldn’t tell Ari. Ziggy offers to support her but Mackenzie goes to lie down. Tane assures Ziggy he’s not going to put any pressure on her. Ziggy goes and finds Dean on the pier and has a go at him for not supporting Mackenzie. Dean says he’s been in Ari’s shoes and knows Ari wants a family. Ziggy says it’s not about him or Ari, it’s about Mackenzie, and he should think about her.
At the Diner, Jasmine complains to Willow and Irene about Lewis’ ultimatum. Willow says that maybe she does have to pick a side and reminds her that Tori told Lewis he could report Christian. Jasmine thinks she might regret it and is worried about the effect it will have on Tori. Irene tells her to think about what the right thing to do this. Later, Jasmine arranges to meet Lewis on the pier. She tells him she’ll support him if reporting Christian is what he feels he needs to do.
Outside the surf club, Ziggy complains to Tane about how men want families but don’t understand how hard it is on women. Tane asks when he’s ever given that impression. Ziggy says she was just talking in general but Tane says not to assume he’s the same as Dean and walks off. Meanwhile, Dean goes round to see Mackenzie who says she doesn’t need a lecture and thought she could count on his support. Dean notes that that support is contingent on him not telling Ari. He says he’ll take her to the appointment and not say anything, but Mackenzie says it’ll feel like he’s judging her anyway and she’s made other arrangements.
Ziggy meets Tane on the beach and apologises for what she said before. Tane says he’s always imagined having a large family one day but it’s not something they need to talk about yet. He notes it was their first row as a couple and suggests they go clubbing to make up but Ziggy doesn’t want to leave Mackenzie. That evening, Willow goes round to see Dean again; he explains Amber and Jai are out with Francesca and he wasn’t invited. They reflect on how well things have gone and Willow notes she never actually expected Dean and Bella to forgive her and isn’t sure what to do next. Dean tells her to focus on herself.
Mackenzie has told Ziggy about Dean’s visit but left her with the impression that Dean is taking her to the clinic. Ziggy offers to make dinner but Mackenzie would rather be alone so Ziggy decides to stay over at Tane’s. She goes to the surf club and tells Tane they are going clubbing after all, and also half-jokingly suggests talking about everything serious while they’re there. Tane ponders what comes after the clubbing. Meanwhile, alone at home, Mackenzie goes to get a glass of water but then collapses to the floor in extreme pain.
