Extended Summary
Irene thinks the Diner is really going to have to come up with some innovations to beat the Surf Club at their own game. She comes up with an idea about targeting tour operators, but Leah snaps at her – she doesn’t want to be involved in a battle between two women who should know better. She runs out and cries on the beach. She can’t believe Dan loved and trusted her and she went and ruined it.
Josie reveals her secret to Scott. She originally took the job with Brett to get back at the Bay. But then she found a file that showed Brett intended to build the resort and use it as a front for dumping toxic waste. She didn’t want that so she teamed up with Stafford McRae to defeat the resort from the inside. Scott can’t believe it. Josie says the chemicals don’t arrive for a couple of weeks, so Scott has to stay quiet. He has no idea what Brett is capable of.
Beth comes in to the Diner to talk to Irene and apologises for the animosity. She then reveals that there was some truth to Irene’s suspicions about her and Hyde. The truth is she’s been lonely since Rhys left and needed some male attention – even if it wasn’t romantic. Beth apologises. Irene understands and the two are back to being friends again.
Josie goes to Jesse in the hospital and reveals she knows he made the Molotov cocktail. She can’t believe it. Jesse denies it at first but eventually says he doesn’t care if he could have hurt her or not. Josie is crushed. She walks out. Then we see that Jesse’s been putting on a brave face. Josie goes to Hayley instead of the police and asks her to talk to Jesse. Hayley tells Jesse she can’t believe who he’s become. Jesse breaks down and tells Hayley that he loved Josie so much. He saw their lives heading in a totally different direction and then she ripped everything out from underneath him. He’s never dealt with his hurt.
Brett tells Josie the construction has been brought forward. Excavation begins tomorrow. Josie calls Stafford – they need to speak now. But when Josie gets to Stafford’s car at the cliff top she finds Brett there instead. He gets her out of the car and starts backing her over the cliff. She slips and Brett’s just about to push her off. Is this the end of Josie Russell?
