Extended Summary

Cash and Eden come downstairs at the surf club. Eden is starting to regret slightly not going to the festival. John comes over and asks Eden if she’s seen Abigail, given Mali was looking for her. Eden hasn’t. John expresses surprise she’s not gone with the others. At the farm house, Mali leaves Abigail a message wondering where she is. Levi is surprised that he’s still there. Mali wonders if Levi’s got any missed calls from Abby given she didn’t come home. Levi suggests her phone died and calling Mackenzie. Mali doesn’t think she’ll know anything given she’s on the train to Broken Hill.

On the train, Isaac sits with Mackenzie again, with Holden watching from across the aisle. He asks if she’s seeing any bands in particular and offers back stage passes to his cousin’s gigs. Remi suddenly notices Abigail, who asks when the next stop is. Remi says they’ve only just left Yabbie Creek. Mackenzie offers her phone to call Mali but Abigail goes to throw up first. Not too far away, Jo and Eddie chat about the trip. Lacey and Holden both go for the same drink and Holden lets her have it. Justin sits with Lacey and they discuss how strange it is not to see Theo there. Justin wonders about Leah not coming. Lacey notes she looked down. At Salt, Leah is lamenting to Alf about how she pushed everyone away. Alf says he’s still there but Leah regrets saying that Justin didn’t care about Theo and trying to use Sonny to get close to him. Alf says she was looking for a lighthouse in a storm.

Remi brings Justin, Dana and Sonny drinks, taking a moment to propose a toast to Back on Track and thanking them all for their help, before heading off to do some networking. Back in the Bay, Eden is looking through Remi’s socials instead of studying. She complains to Cash about them having bloody marys at this hour, then wonders when she started saying “at this hour”. Cash says if she gets a chunk of study done, he’ll make her a bloody mary, then rock her back and forth and make train noises.

Abigail sits with Justin, Dana and Sonny, still feeling a bit rough and worrying about calling Mali. Sonny asks who hasn’t fallen asleep and stowed away on a slow-moving country train. Isaac sits with Mackenzie again and she firmly tells him that she has a boyfriend. Who’s busy being a cardiothoracic surgeon. A heart surgeon. And they’re trying for a baby. Isaac retreats and Mackenzie sarcastically expresses disappointment. The train lurches and Holden and Lacey bump into her.

Not long after, Mali is on the phone to Abigail, and is frustrated at what’s happened. Abigail suggests he come and pick her up from the next station but Mali isn’t keen. Abigail says he could have come with her like she asked. Mali suggests he might have had other plans and Abigail reminds him his plans were sitting on the couch watching the footy. She says she wanted to be spontaneous and he tells her to enjoy the trip before hanging up and filling in Levi.

Alf and Leah come downstairs at the surf club. Leah intends to go to the Diner and relieve Marilyn now she’s staying. Alf encourages her to call Justin. John comes along and wonders what’s going on. Alf tells him to mind his own business. Meanwhile, Cash brings Eden her bloody marys as she complains about not being allowed a weapon, including tasers. John turns up, worried he put his foot in it before and saying he often doesn’t get invited to things either. He says they’ve had music festivals in the Bay before and wonders if he could help Eden arrange one. Cash escorts him out and he complains that people need to send him a list of questions he shouldn’t ask.

Mali tells Levi he’s not going to pick up Abby, since she obviously doesn’t want to celebrate their anniversary, and is instead going to take the camper van out on his own. At the Diner, Leah offers for Marilyn to go home but Marilyn says she’ll stay to the end of her shift. Leah gets out her phone and calls Justin.

Justin sees the call but doesn’t answer, going to join Remi, Sonny and Dana instead. Isaac approaches Lacey and feeds her the line about what bands she wants to see. She immediately shuts him down and Holden tells him it’s not a pick-up joint. Jo checks Lacey’s enjoying herself and says she was right about there being no pressure. Lacey starts to say something but then Eddie arrives and, in front of a crowd including Justin, Remi, Sonny and Dana, proposes to her with a makeshift ring. Jo looks horrified for a moment before saying she needs time to think. Meanwhile, Alf arrives at the Diner and Marilyn advises him to talk to Leah. She tells him Justin’s rejecting her calls; she knows he isn’t busy because he’ll still be on the train. Alf offers to call him.

Alf’s call comes up on Justin’s phone but he doesn’t see it. Eddie apologises to Jo for putting her on the spot. Jo says it’s not a no or a yes, she just needs more time. Eddie is happy to wait. Isaac sits down with Dana and starts his spiel about what bands she wants to see. Dana cuts to telling him she doesn’t want to see his cousin’s show. Mackenzie tells Abigail about the anniversary trip Mali was arranging for her, leaving her feeling guilty, although she’s too busy being sick again to go and apologise, pushing past Isaac. Sonny suggests he and Dana join the 1.27m high club. She’s impressed he looked up how tall the train is. Justin sees Alf’s missed call and goes to find a quiet spot. Lacey admits to Jo she knew Eddie was planning to propose and that the other guy is still the problem. They go somewhere private to talk, passing Remi and Eddie who are discussing the gig. Sonny goes to find a quiet spot. Dana goes to follow him but gets grabbed by Mackenzie first.

In the tunnel ahead, three teenagers – two boys and a girl – are doing some graffiti. Hearing the train, the girl tells the two boys, Rob and Reuben, to turn off the music and run. They flee. Seeing them, and their bikes left on the tracks, the driver brakes but hits the bikes, with the train skidding out of control. Abigail, Eddie, Sonny, Remi and Dana are among those thrown about inside. In the aftermath, Abigail, Dana, Remi and Mackenzie lie unconscious, with the train on its side.
