After the revelation that Charlie is her mother, Ruby makes a momentous decision and leaves home. Tony confronts Rex and is surprised by the outcome. Angelo gets a tip off.
Extended Summary
Ruby is stunned by Charlie’s admission that she is her mother. Despite Charlie insisting there’s more to the story and begging Ruby to let her explain, Ruby is too upset to listen. Ruby confronts Ross and he insists it was the best thing for everyone, but Ruby is sickened by the bombshell and runs off.
Angelo spots a distraught Ruby running along the beach and talks to her. Ruby tells him she knows everything and says that she hates Charlie. Angelo tries to explain the situation to Ruby and help her see sense, but when he reveals that Charlie was raped it leaves Ruby reeling. Later, Ruby returns home and tells Charlie that she wants to know everything. Charlie explains what happened to Ruby and while Ruby is sympathetic to what Charlie went through, she tells her that it doesn’t excuse what Charlie has done to her.
Ruby confides in Xavier about Charlie’s confession and says that she has ruined her life. Xavier tells Ruby that she needs time to work things through. Ruby asks if she can move in with him but Xavier’s not sure that’s a good idea. However later, Ruby returns to Charlie’s to pack her bags after Martha agreed she could stay with them. Furious, Charlie confronts Martha in the Surf Club and accuses her of using the situation with Ruby as a way of punishing her for her relationship with Angelo.
Hugo and Martha have a disagreement over Martha letting Ruby stay with them. Martha says that just because Hugo slept with Charlie once it doesn’t mean he has to take her side all the time. Hugo refuses to fight with Martha and says that he does sympathise with Charlie. Later, having seen sense, Martha reveals to Ruby that it’s not right for her to be moving in against her family’s wishes. If she gets Charlie’s permission she’s more than welcome to move in, but Ruby is devastated. Returning home, Ruby packs her belongings and leaves.
Hugo meets with Gibbsy and tells him he wants in on the illegal abalone operation. Despite Gibbsy maintaining he doesn’t know what Hugo’s talking about, Hugo says he’ll be waiting at the wharf tomorrow with the cash. Later, Hugo gives Angelo an anonymous tip-off about the illegal abalone dive. Angelo is waiting for Irene’s fishing trawler to return when he spots the illegal immigrant. When he’s noticed by the illegal immigrant, Angelo goes chasing after him.
At the Surf Club, Tony is talking to Alf about Rachel when Rex and Jane walk in. Tony informs Alf about the complaint Rex and Jane filed against Rachel and tells him Rachel’s concerned that they could be following her. Alf insists that Summer Bay is a small town and there’s not much they can do about it.
The next day, Tony bumps into Rex and Jane at the Surf Club again and confronts the couple about why they always seem to be in the same places as he and Rachel. Despite Rex claiming he doesn’t know what Tony is talking about, Tony doesn’t believe them and highlights the fact that Jane has been hanging around their house. Rex refuses to believe Tony and an argument breaks out before Rex and Jane leave. Later, Rex reveals to Tony that Jane has admitted to hanging around their house and the Surf Club. He apologises and says he doesn’t know what to do about Jane.
