Kirsty takes up Bartletts offer. Why is Martha so scared? It’s time Miles played parent.

Extended Summary

After a long nightshift, a customer recognises Kirsty while she cleans his room, and asks for a ‘date’. She turns him down, she doesn’t do that anymore, but realises she’ll be recognised so long as she keeps working at The Sands, she quits on the spot. Soon she’s wondering if she did the right thing, then she bumps into Bartlett, also looking troubled, and dishes out her problems. He offers her another loan, and she turns it down, she’s not playing the victim anymore.

Bartlett offers Kirsty her old job back, he’s had a hard time replacing her, and she’d be doing him a favour as well. She wants to say yes, but she’s worried about money. How will she pay for Kane’s legal battle on a secretaries earnings? Bartlett thinks she simply has to accept that as a single mother she doesn’t have the capacity to take care of Kane as well, and that Kane wouldn’t want her suffering the way she is for his sake.

Jai has been feeling very insecure about Miles break up with Kirsty. It seems like just when he’s found a family again, it’s been taken away from him. Miles has been consumed by his own worries, but Alf convinces him it’s time he took care of Jai. They talk it through, and while Miles can’t get back with Kirsty for Jai, he makes Jai feel better. Then he visits Kirsty to tell her the kids miss her, and she can still visit them whenever she likes.

Kirsty admits she saw Miles having dinner with Leah, and wonders if they’re getting together. Miles tells her no, and despite herself she’s relieved. Then, as things are finally getting civil between the two, Miles is astonished to see Kirsty at school the next day. She’s taken back her old job.

Martha’s final dose of chemo is coming up, but rather than being excited by the prospect, she’s reserved and begins to feel sick. Jack calls Rachel, but there are no physical signs of illness. But for Martha’s complaints, she should be perfectly fine. Finally Martha is forced to admit that she’s inventing illness to cover her own fear of tomorrow’s chemo. Then, when the time comes, moments before her final session begins, Martha panics and jumps up. She can’t do this!
