Martha unloads the truth behind her fear. It’s not the chemotherapy that she’s frightened of, it’s what comes after. Beyond her final dose, there’s nothing else she can do to fight the cancer. She’s scared it won’t work. Scared of stopping. She hates the chemo, but at the same time, she doesn’t want it to end, because in a way it’s her safety net.
Rachel decides it’s best she go home, she’s in no state for chemo now. Jack tries to be supportive and encouraging, though he can’t quite understand. Finally, Jack tells her not to worry about the future, there’s no way of knowing what’s ahead, and just to focus on living today. It’s convincing, and she decides to go ahead with the chemo.
A man from out of town comes looking for Bridget, his name is Brian Lawler, and she owes him money, and he’s not leaving town till he gets it. It seems they’ve worked together in the past as con artists, but Bridget insists she’s on the straight and narrow now. Tony decides to warn Alf about Brian’s presence in town.
When Alf asks, Bridget says Brian’s an ex, and she owes him money, five thousand dollars. He offers to loan it to her, if it means getting rid of Brian, and she gladly accepts. But she only owes Brian two thousand, and as he leaves town with his money, she has to wonder if she’s really changed at all.
Belle’s ready to be discharged from hospital, and the police are yet to find any leads on whoever ran her off the road. Then Murray visits, he’s heard the developers will be removing the toxic waste by night very soon, and he wants her to help him stake it out. Meanwhile, her affair with Aden is continuing, and when Angelo catches her with Aden’s Ipod, he gets suspicious.
Then, when he goes looking for her that night, Irene tells him she thought Belle was with him. Convinced that she’s with Aden, when Belle tells him where she really was, staking out the development site, it’s almost a relief for Angelo. But after hearing of all Angelo’s snooping, and convinced they’ll be caught sooner or later, Aden gives Belle an ultimatum. Until she breaks up with Angelo, he doesn’t want to see her.
