There’s romance in the air for Alf, whether he wants it or not. How far will Bartlett go to punish Kirsty?

Extended Summary

Kirsty is still reeling after being given an official warning by Bartlett, and with the bills piling up, the possibility of losing her job couldn’t have come at a worse time. Miles offers to help her out, but she insists she has things covered. When Jai comes into her office at school looking for twenty dollars needed for an excursion, she’s embarrassed not to have the money herself, and decides to risk taking it from the petty cash. Then, with a bill looming, and unwilling to swallow her pride and borrow the money from Miles, she decides to borrow a few hundred more.

When Bartlett catches Jai returning the money, he assumes he’s stealing it, and Kirsty is forced to admit that she lent it to him. Bartlett’s far from understanding, and delivers Kirsty her second official warning. When Miles finds out she took even more money for her bills, he insists she borrow some from him to put back, and though she hates having to depend on him, she takes it gratefully. But when she goes to replace the cash, Bartlett catches her, and delivers his final warning. She’s out of a job. As soon as he hears what’s happened, Miles makes his way straight to Bartlett’s office. He angrily points out the case for sexual harassment Kirsty would have against Bartlett if she chose to take it to the police, and he’s forced to offer Kirsty her job back. But far from the gratitude Miles expected, Kirsty is angry at him for stepping in before she could deal with the problem herself, and she turns down Bartlett’s offer.

After seeing how well Alf and Bridget have been getting on, Colleen sees romance in the air, and decides to do her part to speed things along. She prepares a special dinner, invites Bridget along without letting Alf know, and then arranges for nobody else to be home. When they arrive, Alf and Bridget both see straight through Colleen’s plan, but decide to have dinner anyway. Perhaps Colleen’s instincts weren’t that far off the mark.

Having recovered since her first chemo session, but aware that it will only get worse in the future, Martha’s keen to get back to work while she can. Alf’s not sure it’s a good idea, but Bridget, having had her own experience with chemo, thinks a return to life as normal is just what Martha needs, and Alf gives her a shift. Everything seems to be going brilliantly, until Martha’s hair begins to fall out.
