Extended Summary

Irene, Leah and Roman are preparing for the opening of the Pier Diner. However, since the news of Sam’s murder, they decide to postpone the grand opening until everything settles. Belle is relieved to have the support from Irene and Leah when she reveals she’s quit working at the Coastal News.

Tony is sick with worry about Jack and still under the belief that Sam’s death was self-inflicted. Jazz’s immediate reaction is that the police have it wrong. With some reluctance, she opens up to Tony and explains she saw Sam last night; Sam had asked her to bring money. Not wanting to admit that Sam had blackmailed her, Jazz agrees that it was a bad idea not to contact the police. She reveals she didn’t give Sam the money, but explains that Sam was in a determined state of mind… she was going on the run with Rory. Tony convinces Jazz to give this information to the police. They go to the police station and Jazz is interviewed by city detective, Ross Buckton. Ross is particularly interested in the fact Sam told Jazz she wasn’t going to satisfy ‘them’ by killing herself. Ross’ mind ticks over with the ‘them’ factor. Was Sam referring to Jack and Martha?

Morag’s anxiety for Martha grows when Ross is brought in to deal with the case. From the outset, we learn Morag and Ross already know each other… the big question is how. She’s surprised to learn that he’s retiring – this is his last case – and he is determined to get to the bottom of it. Morag sits in with Martha, whilst Ross interviews her. It quickly becomes apparent that Ross believes that Martha and Jack killed Sam together.

Martha later queries Morag about her relationship with Ross Buckton. Her aunt reveals that a long time ago she had an affair with Ross. Morag explains he is a detective who will pursue his gut instinct to the bitter end. Martha knows this isn’t good news, but Morag assures her niece, she isn’t going to let Ross win.

After being interviewed by Ross, Tony is left anxious that the main suspects in Sam’s murder are Jack and Martha. Tony’s fear increases when Jack, distraught and desperate, turns up on the doorstep, seemingly guilty. What does Jack know about Sam’s death?
