Extended Summary

Mali leads Abigail over to her car with his hand over her eyes. After teasing her by briefly removing his hand, he finally shows her the car. Abigail is delighted by how clean it is and thanks him. Mali shows her how he’s also put everything away neatly in the glove box. At the farm house, Mackenzie tells Levi she’s got an idea to take their minds off the IVF: Taking him to see her mother. Levi is keen on the idea but is slightly worried about being referred to as the man intending to give her grandchildren.

At the surf club, Bree insists on buying juices for her and Jo. Jo asks her about the party, saying she didn’t want an invite with her sister there. Bree addresses the fact that she lives with Lacey and works with Jo and knows things are tense between them. Jo says it’s not a problem and asks if they’re friends now. Bree thinks they already were.

At the Parata house, Harper tells Tane that she was worried things would be awkward which is why she didn’t want to move in. Tane thinks they just need time to work out their new normal but Harper doesn’t think things will ever be normal between them and that she should move out. Tane wants to work things out.

Mackenzie is on the phone making arrangements. Levi says it can’t be worse than meeting Dean and Mackenzie assures him her mother’s nothing like him. Mali arrives in time to hear Levi deciding to go and pack. He tries to convince Mackenzie to leave tonight, since Abigail’s promised him a reward for washing her car. It’s Levi’s turn to overhear the last part. Mackenzie suggests they leave first thing in the morning. Levi says he’ll get earplugs for tonight.

At the Diner, Justin tells Leah he’s come up with a plan for John: He was originally going to take him golfing but is still a little bit banned after their last experience. Leah is distracted by the fact she and Irene came up with the salad she’s preparing; Leah wanted to include anchovies and they compromised by having it as a side. She realises they’re going to miss their movie. Justin says it doesn’t matter and gives her a hug but turns down her anchovies.

Tane pauses to look at a photo of himself with Archie. Harper comes in and says she’s going to check for new rentals. Tane is upset that she wants to move out. Harper says it might work if they could be friends but thinks too much has happened, and wonders what will happen when they disagree about Archie or things get serious between him and Jo. Tane says he ended things with Jo because it was getting in the way of them and asks her not to take his son away from him.

Levi tells Mackenzie he’ll have to stop by the hospital in the morning. Abigail arrives and asks Mali what he did with the rest of her stuff. Mali says he put everything in the glove box but Abigail says one of the bags he threw out had a necklace in it: The one that belonged to their grandmother and Jimmy gave to Eden, which Abigail was getting cleaned in case Eden wanted to wear it for the wedding. Mali insists the bags were empty and they go to search the car.

Bree arrives home and calls out without getting a response. She finds a glass and a bottle of wine, with a note from Lacey saying “Gone bowling, enjoy”. Bree pours herself a glass and settles down on the settee with the television, smiling. Next morning, Mali and Abigail arrive outside the surf club. Mali is convinced he didn’t throw the necklace out and it must have fallen out around there. He says he can replace the necklace if they don’t find it. Abigail says it’s a heirloom and it’s the history that matters, explaining about Jimmy giving it to Eden the day of the barbecue.

Bree and Jo meet up at work with Jo giving her a coffee to make up for the juice. The paramedics bring in a patient, Bart, who was found disorientated and agitated in the street: He has signs of taking drugs and alcohol, and although his vitals are stable, the ECG threw up arrythmias, although he ripped the leads off. Meanwhile, Tane is chanting a haka to an enthralled Archie. Harper comes in and smiles, before noting he’ll need to learn to walk before Tane can teach him the moves. Tane says he doesn’t want either of them to miss out on moments like this.

Jo is trying to attach the ECG to Bart but he first gets agitated then acts in a sleazy manner and touches her behind. Bree steps in and warns him not to touch her staff, telling Jo to call security. At Salt, Mackenzie asks Abigail if she can cover a shift but Abigail isn’t sure if she’ll be alive then and reminds her that Eden held a grudge for a decade. They’ve already checked Mali’s vacuum and the necklace isn’t in there. Mali appears and says that he hasn’t found the necklace but there’s one other place it could be.

Mali shows Abigail the skip where he chucked the bag and manages to fall into it. Finding a bag of old seafood, he sends Abby away. Alf comes along and is bewildered at what Mali’s up to. Mali says he’s trying to save his relationship. At the hospital, Jo tells Bree that security are busy on Level 5. Bree says she’ll support her if she wants to report an assault, since they’re both used to it but shouldn’t be. Jo declines and Bree sends her upstairs.

Levi arrives at Salt and tells Mackenzie he’s been called into work so might be a bit longer. He says he’ll meet her at her mum’s tonight. They pass Mali and comment on the smell. Abigail complains that he should have just let her be messy. Mali presents her with the necklace. Abigail goes to kiss him before they think better of it. At the hospital, Bart continues to be aggressive towards the nurses, thrashing around. Bree injects him with a sedative and says to let her know when it takes full effect, before warning Bart he’ll be dealing with the police if he touches one of her staff again.

Harper is playing with Archie outside the surf club when Tane joins them. She says she’s spent all night thinking about how they can be friends again and wants Archie to know him and his Maori culture. She’s decided that Dana was right: They need to start dating other people. Tane is thrown but says he’ll support Harper if that’s what she wants to do. Harper suggests he give Jo another go so they can both move on.

A nurse tells Bree that Bart is calmer again. However, once Bree is alone with him and goes to put a cannula in, saying he’s probably had a heart attack, Bart starts resisting again and ends up grabbing a pair of scissors and stabbing her. Bree collapses to the floor.
