A life is on the line. Remi’s protective instincts come alive. Cash gives chase.
Extended Summary
Cash and Remi are going for a run near the beach. Eden comments on still not being used to seeing Remi doing this. Remi notes he hasn’t thrown up this time and it’s a good distraction. Cash gets a phone calling summoning him in on his day off, with him only knowing someone has been hurt and there’s a manhunt. At the hospital, Jo is leading a team trying to stabilise Bree and asks how long until Levi gets there. Bree asks about the patient and Jo says not to worry about him and everyone’s safe. She asks someone to get an ultrasound. Bree says to get an x-ray too. Jo tells a staffmember not to touch the scissors because they’re evidence.
Harper and Tane arrive at the surf club with Archie in his pram. Tane insists he’s fine with the idea of Harper dating again and Harper says they’ll both be mature if it does happen. Harper goes to walk Archie to sleep. At the hospital, Levi arrives to find the crime scene. Jo tells him the patient’s been stabbed in the left midaxial and it’s Bree. She gives him the ultrasound before he’s finished asking for it. Levi quickly diagnoses a haemothorax and asks for a chest drain. David arrives with another officer. Jo tells him Bree got stabbed by a patient; he bolted and she doesn’t know his name. David goes to check the CCTV.
David hands out images of Bart taken from CCTV to Cash and other officers, adding that he may be unwell and/or under the influence. Cash asks about the victim and David tells him it’s Bree. Outside the Lyrik house, Remi is recovering from his run. Eden is impressed with him trying to be a better version of himself. Cash calls her and says not to let Remi hear this, telling her Bree’s been stabbed by a patient so to stay where they are. Eden doesn’t immediately tell Remi. Meanwhile, Levi puts a chest drain in Bree.
Alf prints out a number of police notices on Bart at the surf club, pinning one on the noticeboard. Tane asks about it. All Alf knows is that someone was attacked at the hospital. He gives Tane some posters for the gym and Tane also volunteers to take some to the Diner. Not too far away, Harper is walking with Archie when she runs across Bart, who is somewhat disorientated and thinks he’s bleeding. Tane comes past and recognises Bart from the photo. He steps in, giving Harper the posters and telling her to take them to the Diner while he stays with Bart, who gives them his name. Harper looks at the posters as she walks off, also recognises Bart and calls Cash, saying the person they’re looking for is by the bay side picnic tables.
Remi joins Eden outside the house and wonders if she could tell Cash she doesn’t want them running together anymore. He says it makes him forget about calling Bree. Eden looks a bit awkward when he asks her about Bree and Remi realises she’s hiding something. Eden tells him to stay calm when she tells him.
Harper, still with Archie in his pram, is watching from a distance as Tane stands over Bart, who is trying to wash his hands in the sea. Cash and David arrive and Harper points him out. The pair go over and try and get Bart to surrender. After realising he can’t get past them, Bart dashes into the sea and swim away. David gestures for Cash to follow him and he strips off everything except his trousers.
Bree is a lot more comfortable now as Levi and Jo tend to her. She hears Eden and Remi talking at the reception desk and tells Levi she doesn’t want to see Remi. Levi heads out and tells Remi that Bree is stable but he can’t see her. Remi refuses to leave. Meanwhile, David is escorting Bart to a car, telling him he’ll be charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Bart seems rather confused. Cash, who is getting dressed, asks if they’re taking him to hospital. David says they’ll take him to the station and get someone to looks at him, and checks Cash has a spare uniform at work. Cash mentions to Tane and Harper that it was Bree who was hurt.
Remi is continuing to wait around at the hospital despite Eden trying to tell him to get home. Levi still refuses to let him in and Remi gives up and leaves. Levi tells Eden he’s already told them more than they had the right to know. On the other side of the curtain, Jo apologises for leaving Bree alone but Bree says it wasn’t her fault.
At the police station, Bart has given his full name as Bart Ainsworth and can’t remember stabbing someone. Levi turns up, telling Cash and David there weren’t many volunteers and that Bree is stable and alert. David says he’ll go back with him to take Bree’s statement. Levi does a check on Bart, who says he was high and has never hurt anyone. Levi says there’s always a first time.
Remi and Eden arrive at the surf club. Tane asks about Bree, and Remi says they wouldn’t know. Tane says at least they’ve caught the guy, mentioning he was taken to the station. Remi rushes out. At the station, Levi tells Cash that Bart’s symptoms were down to the drugs and Cash asks him to sign him off as medically clear. Levi thinks he needs help to get clean. Cash says Bart’s been in and out of rehab for years and you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.
Levi and David arrive at the hospital. Levi is on the phone to Mackenzie, saying he’s not sure when he can get away. Jo hasn’t been able to get Bree a bed in the unit. Levi says he’ll chase it up and to go home. He takes David through to see Bree. She falteringly recalls the patient being brought in by the ambulance, then loses consciousness as the monitor starts bleeping. Levi calls for help.
At the station, Remi turns up and asks Cash to give him two minutes with the guy that hurt Bree. Cash tells him to go. Remi asks “Or what?”
