Extended Summary

Mali and Abigail wander down to the beach. Mali wants to take advantage of having the house to themselves with Levi and Mackenzie away but Abigail insists on a swim. They find John on patrol on the beach. Mali thought he finished hours ago and John calls it dedication. Mali thinks you need to stop and do something fun sometimes.

At the police station, Cash has taken Remi into the interview room. Remi tries to get Cash to let him go in and see Bart and give him what he deserves. Cash steadfastly refuses. David arrives and warns Remi he’ll end up in a cell if he’s not quiet. Remi is fine with that if it’s the cell Bart’s in. Cash says he’s got this and escorts Remi from the station. Meanwhile, Levi is leading the treatment of Bree at the hospital and realises there’s a blockage in the chest tube which is stopping her lung from inflating. He tries to keep Bree awake.

At the Diner, Marilyn comments that Alf went out early. Alf says Adrian was coming around and he wanted to give him and Cohen some space. Justin comes in and asks Alf if he’s available for a fun-filled night with John. Alf protests he just had dinner with him. Leah insists he needs company. After a bit of waffle, Justin suggests a poker night which both Alf and Leah think is a good idea. Marilyn says not to let John win and Alf agrees. Justin goes to tell John. Leah can’t wait to play poker.

At the surf club, however, Justin presents it to John as a boys’ night, so he won’t feel like third wheel. John agrees. Nearby, Mali tells Abigail he needs to do paperwork before going home and convinces her to help him. John tells him about the poker night. Abigail worries he’ll lose money. John says they’re not playing for money, just bragging rights, which Mali thinks is a prize he’d like.

At the hospital, Bree is now stable. Levi asks if he can call her family. Bree says she doesn’t want to worry them and will call them in a couple of days. Levi steps out to take a phone call from Mackenzie, telling her there’s been an emergency at the hospital so he’ll have to leave first thing tomorrow morning.

Eden is waiting as Cash escorts Remi home. Cash says Remi nearly got himself arrested. He thinks Remi’s angry because Bree’s in hospital and he can’t do anything about it, telling him to get out of the way of those who can help her. Remi heads out the back and Eden comments on him not turning a corner after all. She follows him outside where Remi argues that nothing would stop her visiting Cash if he was in hospital. Eden points out that Remi and Bree aren’t together. Remi knows that but says it doesn’t stop him caring.

Justin comes home to find Leah preparing drink and food for the night and wondering if she should invite Roo. Justin says it’s just the boys and reminded her that she wanted him to hang out with John. Leah asks if she’s been banished from her own home. Justin just says yes. Meanwhile, Bree looks over her x-ray and tells Levi he did a good job. She apologises for getting in the way of him and Mack. Levi still thinks he should call someone for her but Bree says she’s not the first single person to have to manage by herself.

John arrives at the surf club and Mali and Abigail note he looks more like he’s going on a date than a poker night. John says he is: He met someone called Mandy while walking home and thinks she might be the one. They congratulate him and he says he got them; he’s practising his bluffing face. Justin comes down from Salt, having bought beers for tonight, and lets John know Leah thought she was coming.

Levi is on the phone trying to get Bree a place on a ward. Eden comes in and asks if she can see Bree. Bree checks that Remi’s not with her. Eden expresses sympathy and says Remi didn’t send her but asks her to get in touch with him since he’s worried. Bree says she’d like to have him there holding her hand, but if they did that, they’d be back to square one. She asks Eden to let her get some rest, then brings up Remi’s details on her phone.

At the Morgan house, Justin tries to usher Leah out before anyone arrives. Alf and John turn up and Leah tries to offer them drinks and nibbles but Justin sends her on her way. John grabs a handful of nibbles. Justin tells them that it’s texas hold ’em, five community cards, two hole card and they’re playing for chips, not cash.

Remi finds Cash still waiting for him. He apologises for putting him in a tough spot. Remi gets a phone call from Bree who tells him he doesn’t need to worry about her. They exchange somewhat stilted and polite chit-chat before Bree rather abruptly hangs up. Remi takes whiskey from the cupboard and drinks straight from the bottle. Cash tries to convince him to stop but Remi asks for no more lectures tonight.

At the Diner, Leah complains to Marilyn about being banned from the poker. Marilyn thinks she’s better off not playing with John. David listens from a nearby table. Back at the house, John announces he’s all in. Alf thinks he’s bluffing. There’s suddenly a knock at the door; it’s David, who says he heard there was gambling here. John says Justin invited them. David asks them to deal him in. When he hears they’re playing for chips, he says to get their wallets out and make it interesting.

Levi arrives at the surf club. Mali and Abigail are surprised to see him and he says he was held up at the hospital and is going tomorrow. He tells them Bree was the one who was stabbed and the person responsible has been caught but is sympathetic, saying he was off his head on drugs. Noticing Abigail’s reaction, he says she should be proud of what she’s done in the last year. After he’s gone, Mali is surprised to learn she’s been clean for a year and asks if she’s going to celebrate. Abigail says she’s focused on Eden’s wedding.

David hands out piles of chips worth $300, saying whoever has chips left at the end of the game gets the money. Alf only has $50 on him and John only has cards. David is happy to take a bank transfer. Justin and Alf tell John they don’t have to do it but Justin says in the navy they called him X-Ray because he could always see through bluffs. They all go in and then David raises them $20. John looks nervous.
