Extended Summary
At Salt, Remi gets Theo a drink. Theo is worrying about Perri. Harper and Kaia come in and Theo goes over. Harper tells him Perri was found not guilty. Theo wonders who Kaia is and Harper suggests that Perri should explain it to him. Back at the Parata house, Tane gets a text from Harper saying she and Kaia are at Salt. Perri wonders how Kaia could do this to him, leaving and never coming back. Tane suggests he’d need to talk to Kaia for the answers but Perri just walks away.
Levi is furious about what Eden is telling him, calling her selfish. Eden reminds him that Mackenzie was his patient when they got together and insists Abigail is getting better. Levi says she’s still fragile and that Eden could have chosen anyone. Eden says she likes Tim. Levi says she’ll get caught like he did. At Salt, Kaia convinces Harper to wait a bit longer. She notes that Harper has the joy of being a mother to come. Tane turns up but says Perri isn’t ready for anything more tonight. Kaia accepts it and says she’s going back to the motel.
Abigail is pleased when Levi arrives home; Mackenzie is in the shower. Levi confirms Eden read the letter and says she was moved but needs more time. Abigail prompts him to tell her he’s proud of her then asks for his car keys, not to see Eden but just to drive around. Levi offers to come with her but eventually agrees.
At the surf club, Theo is texting Perri and doesn’t even notice that Remi has just beaten him at pool. Abigail arrives and Remi tenses up but she says he’s not on her hit list and it’s not him she’s mad at. Remi asks if she’s apologising. Abigail tells him to take the win and it’s down to her counsellor. Remi decides to go anyway. Abigail challenges Theo to a game, saying she’s not very good. Theo appreciates the honesty, then wonders if she’s hustling him. She points out she wouldn’t admit it if she was.
Remi arrives home and tells Eden he got an apology from Abigail. Eden says she got one in writing. Remi says her counsellor seems to be helping her. Eden says Levi’s already had a go. Remi suggests she’s getting over Cash but Eden insists that’s not it. Remi asks her to explain but she refuses. After he’s gone to his room, she calls someone and asks them to come over. Not long after, Eden is in the back yard. Remi shows Tim out to her and leaves them to it. Eden shows him the letter, saying it was honest and lovely. She says she’d like to keep seeing him but thinks they shouldn’t.
Next morning, Tane finds Perri standing round the back of the house. Tane confirms he met up with Kaia and Harper last night and suggests giving her a chance to explain. Perri wonders why she didn’t come back and Tane reiterates that only Kaia can answer that. Meanwhile, Remi asks Eden how things went with Tim, moments before Tim emerges from her room. Remi quickly excuses himself, saying three’s a crowd. Tim says they need to tell Abby and Eden asks to hold off for a bit, since she needs to talk to her about the letter first.
Entering the surf club, Abigail worries about not having heard from Eden and wonders if she should call her. Levi tries to dissuade her. He then gets a text from Remi asking to meet and makes his excuses. Theo turns up and Abigail again mentions her counselling. She thinks he’s judging her but Theo tells her that he gets counselling too.
At the Parata house, Tane sees Perri has brought out the box of keepsakes. Harper arrives with Kaia. Tane and Harper watch from a distance as Kaia notices the child’s ball, saying she bought it for his second birthday and he took it everywhere with him. Once he lost it in the park and she went back for it with a torch. Perri says he remembers and Kaia hands him the ball. She says she came back a couple of times to see him play basketball; he looked happy and she thought he was okay. She takes out the photo of her with him as a baby.
Theo is helping Abigail hose down boards outside the surf club. He suggests Eden is thinking about what she has to say and Abigail admits that it’s better than just giving a generic thumbs up. Nearby, Levi meets with Remi, who tells him about Tim staying over. They look over at Abigail and note she’s doing better. Remi says that Eden looked the happiest she has for a long time and thinks she likes Tim.
Back at the Lyrik house, Eden suggests to Tim that they’re not doing anything illegal or unethical. Tim thinks the fact he’s counselling her sister makes it a grey area. Eden says she tried romance and it didn’t get her anywhere. They decide they need to set boundaries. Tim says he won’t talk about Abigail with her and Eden asks him not to talk about her when he’s with Abigail. Tim gets a call from Levi and agrees to talk in person.
Tane and Harper are now in the back garden. Tane worries that things might go too well and admits that he’d miss Perri if he left, before hoping Kaia doesn’t mess Perri up again. He says he can’t understand walking away from your son. Harper points out they’ve never been in her position and says Kaia’s a victim too.
Inside, Kaia tells Perri she went back to New Zealand rather than be close to him but not with him, and convinced herself she’d done the right thing. Perri recalls how he came home and asked where she was, and Carl told him she’d died in a car accident and turned up the TV. Tane and Harper come in as Perri is recalling how he cried in her room and Carl called him weak. He says it might have been hard for her to leave but it was harder for him to stay. He tells her to go to hell. Kaia leaves.
