Extended Summary

Dean is setting up a class on the beach. He sees Bella and Chloe and asks Bella if he can have a word with her. Chloe says she’s shouting Bella a juice before her shift. Dean tries to say that can wait but Chloe points out Dean’s class is starting and drags Bella away. Later, at the surf club, Bella is trying to get Chloe to tell Theo she just wants to be friends. Dean approaches the pair, asking if he can talk. Chloe leaves for her shift, telling Bella they’ll meet at the Diner later. Dean asks Bella what happened to setting boundaries. Bella says something happened to Chloe that she feels responsible for. Dean protests that Mia can deal with that but Bella says she knows what she’s doing.

Irene serves Leah and Dimitri at the Diner. Dimitri is keen to just see Theo. Leah tells him she called Cassandra who said there was something she needed to talk to Theo about. Dimitri just says that she’s always coddled him. John comes in, just returned from visiting Jett, and is greeted by Irene and Marilyn. Leah introduces him to Dimitri. John is polite but noticeably stiff. At the garage, Theo apologises to Justin for losing his temper. Justin wonders why he didn’t want them calling Cassandra and Theo just says she’s stressed after leaving Dimitri. Justin encourages Theo to talk to Dimitri and tell him why he doesn’t want to come back.

Justin and Theo arrive at the Diner, where John makes a point of greeting Theo. They sit with Leah and Dimitri, where Dimitri has a go at Theo for staying out all night without telling anyone. Leah and Justin want to order but Dimitri wants to talk to Theo in private first and tries to get him to step outside with him. John says Theo’s meant to be at the surf club and Theo says it’s for community service before leaving. Dimitri asks what’s going on. Outside, Theo finds Chloe sat on a bench. He says he was going to call her and Chloe says she enjoyed spending time with him. However, when Bella appears, Chloe abruptly turns down Theo’s suggestion of dinner together, saying she’s busy today and tomorrow. She goes to join Bella, saying that Theo’s being clingy.

Outside the Diner, Leah and Justin have been explaining what’s going on to Dimitri, who is angry that he wasn’t told. Justin says it was Theo’s choice while Dimitri is unimpressed with Theo’s behaviour and how close he seems to John. Leah and Justin convince him they should go home and talk. Back at the Diner, Marilyn asks John if he’s got any photos of Jett’s girlfriend. John admits he didn’t think of it but says she’s besotted with Jett. He asks how long Dimitri’s been in town and Marilyn says she thinks he arrived yesterday. John quickly leaves.

John runs into Dean at the surf club and asks if he’s seen Theo. He also says Dean hasn’t done the liability insurance he was supposed to sort while John was away. Dean says it’s at home but John is insistent that it’s needed now so he agrees to go home and get it. Theo arrives and admits things are hard with Dimitri around. John offers to shout him lunch. Theo sends Chloe a text asking if they’re okay. Chloe is at the farm house when she gets it and complains that Theo’s hassling her but says she thinks he’ll get the hint if she ignores him. Bella leaves the room to answer a call from Nikau. Dean comes home and tells Chloe that sooner or later Bella will realises she’s being lied to.

Roo is doing some gardening outside the house. Marilyn appears and tries to talk to her about Martha. Roo instead drags the conversation round to Marilyn feeling purposeless. Marilyn says she was just having a bad day but Roo insists she’ll come up with a list of things they can do together. At the Morgan house, Leah has prepared lunch but Dimitri is still on edge and asks how long Theo’s community service usually takes. Justin says it depends what John gets him to do but admits he may just be avoiding Dimitri. Dimitri goes to look for him. Justin tells Leah about Theo sleeping in his car and thinks he’s avoiding them as well.

John and Theo are together at Salt. John encourages him to talk to Justin and Leah but Theo isn’t convinced they’ll believe him since Leah thinks she knows Dimitri. Dimitri comes in and queries Theo’s community service. John says he was giving him advice beforehand and tells Theo to go and clean the paths to the beach. Dimitri offers to buy John a drink. At the farm house, Bella and Chloe have just finished watching a programme together. Theo turns up but Bella blocks him in the doorway before he can see Chloe, saying she’s not there. Theo says she wasn’t at her place and calls out to her. Bella tells him that Chloe told her what happened between them was a mistake and he’s being too intense. Theo leaves. In a jarringly calm manner, Chloe says she’s not okay and apologises for landing Bella in the middle of her mess.

At the Diner, Roo has turned up with her list and tries to get Marilyn to sit with her. Irene points out Marilyn’s in the middle of her shift. Theo turns up looking for Chloe. Marilyn says Chloe starts work in half an hour and Theo says he’ll wait. Irene says to wait outside if he’s not ordering anything. Roo asks Irene what she thinks Marilyn’s strengths are. Nearby, Chloe says her goodbyes to Bella. Theo approaches her and asks why she called what happened a mistake, saying it wasn’t just a random hook-up for him. Chloe says for her it was meaningless and to leave her alone.

Dimitri apologises for John having to cope with Theo. John says he works hard. Dimitri says John doesn’t know him. John says Theo must have run away from home from a reason. Dimitri asks if there’s something he wants to say. Justin and Leah turn up and John leaves. Dimitri says Theo’s twisting the truth and painting him as the bad guy. At the Diner, Roo is still waiting to talk to Marilyn. Irene asks Marilyn how long she can hide out the back, especially when it’s the end of Irene’s shift. She leaves, passing Chloe, who looks upset. Marilyn comforts her.

At the surf club, Dimitri is leaving a voicemail for Theo, saying he suspects the community service story was a lie. Theo enters and Dimitri accuses him of badmouthing him. Dimitri shoves Theo, who punches him to the floor just as Justin and Leah arrive. Theo lunges for Dimitri again and John and Justin restrain him. Leah asks what’s wrong with him.
