Extended Summary

Dean and Willow are on the beach, discussing the fact Colby is due to get the witness list today. Dean thinks they should be there, if only to stop Colby doing anything stupid. Willow wonders what they could do if they did find out who the witness is. Dean says they could have a word with them: Not threaten, just talk. Willow points out that for the moment it’s Colby’s neck on the line, not theirs. Back at the flat, Bella is watching the laptop over Colby’s shoulder and tries to get him to refresh it again. Colby tries to encourage her to act normal and go and see Nikau. Dean and Willow arrive as Bella insists she’s staying.

Ryder tries to get Roo to tell him what was going on with Owen but Roo says she needs some space and leaves as Marilyn comes in. Ryder gets a text from John asking if the women on the app can see who else he likes. Seeing Marilyn looking disappointed, Ryder suggests he could set her up a profile. Marilyn says she tried online dating before and it didn’t work out but is intrigued when Ryder suggests she’d be more popular than John. Meanwhile, Colby announces the list has come through and everyone crowds around. Colby notes it’s mostly police officers who worked the case and forensics. Bella points out Taylor’s name but Colby says he didn’t tell her anything and doesn’t think she’d perjure herself. Then he notices someone identified as “Witness X”, with no name given, just a reference number, and realises Angelo doesn’t want him to know who it is. Dean suggests getting his lawyer to find out. Willow asks if they can do that and Colby says if they could, it’d be on the list. He decides to go for a walk.

Colby finds Taylor sitting on the beach. She isn’t keen to talk to him and says she’s only testifying because she’s been subpoenaed and it’s the only reason she’s still in town. Colby starts to say he came into their relationship for the wrong reasons but things changed. Taylor doesn’t want to hear it but Colby says she deserves better than him or Angelo and to be happy. He heads back to the flat where Bella tells him she’s come up with a plan. Dean says they should go round the Bay and get character references and Bella says they should talk to Taylor but Colby says they should leave her alone. Bella isn’t happy he seems to be giving up. Colby says he’s been fighting this for weeks: They have one day before court and he wants to make the most of it.

Ryder is taking photos of Marilyn at the Diner and gets her to pose with a tray of muffins: She’d previously suggested posing with tarot cards but he thinks she should keep that under wraps to start with. Meanwhile, Owen joins Roo at the house. She apologises for Ryder interrupting before but he thinks it was probably a good thing since it gave them a chance to think. Roo says it’s confusing and Owen agrees…which is why he’s leaving. Roo protests that they’ve giving up before they’ve even got started. Owen says she’s in love with Evan, not him. Roo desperately says that he’s there and Evan isn’t, before seemingly realising what she’s saying. She apologises and they hold hands.

Taylor approaches Angelo at the Diner and asks him not to make her testify but he bluntly refuses: He may not need her evidence but he wants it. Taylor says he can’t make her talk and Angelo agrees, but if she doesn’t the magistrate will hold her in contempt. He says she’s going to play her part in taking Colby down whether she wants to or not, and he’s going to love every second of it. Meanwhile, Ryder and Marilyn arrive home with Marilyn celebrating getting her first like, although she’s not sure what a love heart emoji means. Roo enters and asks to talk to Ryder alone. Ryder realises Owen’s leaving. Roo confirms that things are over between them and he doesn’t feel able to stick around. Upset, Ryder says it was important for him to have Owen around, and he’s going because Roo got involved with him.

Dean finds Bella down on the beach and tells her that he’s scared too. Bella says that knowing that doesn’t help. She is upset that Colby’s given up fighting and thinks Dean agrees with him. Dean thinks they should do what Colby wants and have one last normal day together. Back at the flat, Colby notes he’s surprised Willow didn’t try and change his mind. Willow says she’s finally learned there’s no point trying to do that. Dean and Bella arrive laden down with pizza. Colby says this is what he wanted, but as they sit down, Bella thanks him for never giving up on her. Dean breaks the moment by jokingly asking if Colby wants a hug before asking why they have vegetarian pizza. Bella points out he ordered it. As the others banter, Colby sits watching them.

Alf, Roo and Ryder have gathered to say goodbye to Owen. Owen says it’s not forever and Ryder agrees he’s still family and will get an invite to the Stewart family Christmas dinner to make everyone awkward. They hug goodbye. Alf shakes hands with Owen, wishing him luck, and Roo hugs him. Owen drives off. At the house, Marilyn is giggling over her string of likes when the others return. Marilyn offers Roo a cup of tea but the moment is killed somewhat by her latest alert. Alf rolls his eyes and says he’s going to read the paper outside, taking Marilyn with him. Ryder asks Roo if she’s all right and Roo says she will be. Ryder accepts she had to do what was right for her but says he’ll miss Owen and he was his last link with Evan.

Willow joins Colby on the balcony with beers. He admits he was pinning everything on the witness list but now he thinks this is it: Everything he’s done over the last few months, all the lies, has just tightened the noose around his neck. Willow notes he sounds like the old Colby. Colby says he killed Ross and every decision he’s made since then has led to this. Willow asks why he’s suddenly woken up to himself and Colby says he fell in love with Taylor. Later, Willow says she’s calling it a night and Dean says he’s going to bed too. Left alone, Colby tells Bella to pick a movie. Bella says Colby can pick the next one.

Angelo is waiting by his car. Someone approaches and he tells them they’re doing the right thing. It’s Willow. She takes off a wire and throws it at him, saying there’s his stupid confession. Angelo, sounding sincere, thanks her and Willow says she didn’t do it for him. She walks away in tears.
