Extended Summary

Ari follows Mackenzie out of the surf club. Mackenzie points out she was trying to walk away from him and says she didn’t pay the rent because Ari told her not to. She asks if Ari even asked the real estate agent who paid and points out she’s supported his family before heading back inside. Meanwhile, Marilyn is leaving her house and sees Tane pull up across the road. He says he’s been away for a few days. When Marilyn presses him for details, he claims to have met a girl named Leanna and spent most of his time at a motel with her. Marilyn quickly leaves, embarrassed, and Tane goes inside. After calling out for Nikau and Ari, he checks the fridge, then takes a wad of cash, mostly fifties, from his bag and heads out.

At the gym, Willow is trying to organise the rosters when Irene turns up and tells her about Jasmine going missing. Both of them think she shouldn’t be on her own. Willow says that she could be miles away by now and Irene replies that she could be holed up nearby. Willow tells Irene to see if the Morgans know anything while she calls Colby. At the Morgan house, Leah tells Irene she wasn’t there when Jasmine came. Justin says she wasn’t happy about the AVO but seemed calm. He can’t think where she’d go and doesn’t want to call Tori at work, adding that she’d have said if she knew something. Leah backs him up on that but Justin goes on to say he’s glad Jasmine’s gone because of the distress she was causing Tori and Grace. Irene says Jasmine’s a danger to herself and walks out. Leah tells Justin he’s just made Irene more stressed. Grace starts crying and Justin goes to check on her.

At the Diner, Irene relates Justin’s comments to Marilyn. She feels guilty for not spotting the signs with Jasmine. Leah comes in and apologises for Justin, saying he’s trying to protect Grace and Tori and is blind to everything else. Willow arrives and says Colby hasn’t heard from Jasmine either and can’t file a missing persons report since she left a note and took her things. Later, Justin comes in with Grace, who Marilyn fusses over. Irene pointedly tells him they haven’t heard from Jasmine still. Justin says he just came in for something to eat. Leah offers to get him a takeaway and Justin says he’s not that hungry, leaving.

Ari finds Tane outside the house, unpacking groceries from his car, and realises he was the one that paid the rent. He asks where he got the money from and Tane says Ari doesn’t want to know. Later, Ari finds Tane round the back and says he’s worried and Tane can’t do something dodgy to pay the rent each month. Tane is convinced he won’t go to jail, despite Ari warning him that he won’t stay lucky and the police are watching them. He is given pause however when Ari suggests Nikau wouldn’t cope if something happened to Tane.

Justin finishes putting Grace down and suggests he and Leah watch a movie. Leah wants to talk about Jasmine. Justin says he’s not going to apologise. Leah understands he’s worried about Tori but says Jasmine’s in trouble and he upset Irene. She goes to bed, wishing him good night. At the beach house, Irene finds Willow still up, sending texts to Jasmine: Neither of them can sleep. Irene thinks Jasmine will bounce back but Willow worries she might never come back.

Ari approaches Mackenzie at Salt and, after something of a false start when he talks about being stressed, apologises for the way he spoke to her. Mackenzie asks if another of his rich girlfriends paid the rent and he explains Tane’s back. Next morning, Tane goes to the shed and places a wad of money in a box. Going back inside, he runs into Mackenzie, who explains she and Ari got back late. Ari also appears and says Nikau’s covering for Alf and must have gone out early. Tane offers them breakfast; Mackenzie isn’t keen but Ari agrees. Mackenzie goes to get dressed.

Leah wakes Justin, who has spent the night on the couch, and says he can have the bedroom since she’s going to check on Irene. Justin asks to come too. He says he’s worried Tori will feel guilty but also cares what happens to Jasmine. When they arrive at the beach house, they join Willow in listening to Irene’s side of a phone call. Irene tells them it was Wendy; Jasmine turned up at the farm house late last night. Irene doesn’t think Wendy knows about Tori and the AVO. While they’re all relieved Jasmine is safe, they’re not sure how long she’ll stay there.

As Ari, Mackenzie and Tane share breakfast, Mackenzie notes Marilyn was in Salt talking about Tane and Leanna. Tane says he was just winding her up. Ari has to get to work so goes to shower. Mackenzie tells Tane that Ari and Nikau were worried about him. Tane flirtatiously asks if she cared. Mackenzie leaves, saying they’re obviously not going to have a proper conversation. At the Diner, Leah and Justin fill Marilyn in on Jasmine. Justin admits he hasn’t told Tori yet and knows she’ll think she’s to blame. After he’s gone, Marilyn tells Leah that she and John are seeing another potential home help; John has rejected all the candidates so far.

Mackenzie is looking in the store room at Salt when Tane turns up. He suspects she was leading somewhere earlier and Mackenzie admits she was going to offer him a job. Moving closer, Tane asks what she had in mind.
