Extended Summary
Willow runs into Ziggy on the beach and asks her about the tattoo, noting it feels like a present for making up for forgetting. She asks what Dean got her and is shocked to realise Dean actually got her a necklace, that he paid for. Dean comes over and says to stop talking about him. Ziggy quips that he should have given them something to talk about. Willow heads on.
Ziggy heads to the farm house and finds Maggie unsuccessfully job hunting online. Ziggy feels things are going back to normal but Maggie feels they’re trying to get back to a place that no longer exists. She says she’s feeling the pressure of everyone’s expectations and them knowing their history. Ziggy says she’ll do anything to help.
Outside the caravan park house, Alf finds Ryder in a thoughtful mood, wondering what’s happening with Evan. Alf checks Ryder is still okay to look after the bait shop. Ryder doesn’t think he can mess up dead fish. At the Palmer house, Marilyn gives John (who is using a grip exerciser throughout) his breakfast. He isn’t keen on being given a cup with a lid on it or on Marilyn putting vegemite on his toast instead of jam (and then changing it), and also isn’t keen on the idea of going out. Marilyn asks if he’s taken his medication and John pointedly takes the lid off his drink to swill it down. Alf arrives and they both greet him enthusiastically.
Dean and Ben unpack boards outside the surf club. Ben asks about his and Ziggy’s getaway. Dean says it’s amazing how a few days away can help you see things differently and he’s glad Ben and Maggie have worked things out. At the farm house, Maggie ends a phone call before telling Ben she’s over-qualified. Ben suggests they go with her original plan and go to Italy.
Marilyn brings Alf his drink and John sarcastically asks if he wants Marilyn to put his sugar in. John asks about the surf club and snaps at Marilyn when she interjects. Alf says they’re looking forward to him coming back. Marilyn briefly answers a question about them before wondering about Ryder. John pointedly says she can’t help everyone. Alf says he has to go since Ryder is looking after the bait shop and has to go to work at Salt. Marilyn shows him out. Alf finds Ryder at the Diner and jokes about him taking a break already. Ryder is heading off to work at Salt, saying it’s better than thinking about things. After he’s gone, Alf calls Roo and asks her to call Ryder.
Ben and Maggie make a list of reasons to go to Italy: Making their dream come true, absorbing another culture, mastering Italian (which Ben is great at) and the food. Maggie asks how much they should plan in advance and Ben says there are villages that will pay them to move in, suggesting making the trip open-ended. Maggie realises he’s suggesting moving to Italy.
Later, Ziggy turns up and is pleased to find them in a more enthusiastic mood. Maggie says they have a proposition for her. Ziggy jokingly suggests they’re renewing their vows and want her, Coco and Dean to be flower girls. Maggie says they already did that (apart from the Dean bit) and they explain they want to move to Italy…and want her and Coco to come with them.
Ryder gives Dean a menu at Salt. Ziggy arrives and, in a shocked state, tells Dean about telling her parents she’d do anything to help them…and now they want her to move to Italy with them. She’s worried they’ll not go without her. She asks if Dean’s ever thought of going overseas but he says only for a holiday. Ryder gets a call from Roo and takes it out onto the balcony, getting to speak to Evan as well. Meanwhile, Willow is supervising a client in the gym. Dean comes in, wanting to talk to her about Ziggy possibly moving to Italy. After establishing that he’s told her it’s her choice, Willow says he’s done the right thing and goes back to her client.
Ziggy tells Ben and Maggie she can’t do it: She has just finished her apprenticeship and has Dean, and it’s their dream, not hers. Maggie assures her they didn’t take it literally about her doing anything but doesn’t want to go without her. Ziggy reminds her what she said earlier and doesn’t want to get in the way of their dream. Later, Maggie tells Ben that Coco has also said no. Ben suggests finding somewhere else closer to the girls with a lot of Italian restaurants. Maggie says she feels like they’re back at square one: They can’t go on like this but she can’t imagine being on the other side of the world to the girls.
John struggles with his watch until Marilyn comes over and takes it off for him. She asks if he’s confirmed his appointment with the occupational therapist. John says it’s 3.00 on Tuesday. Marilyn says she’s got a text saying different. John asks why she doesn’t just tell him, adding that he’s fed up of being poked and prodded and wants her to leave him alone. Marilyn gives him his phone (which he soon throws on the couch) and walks out.
Down on the beach, Dean and Ziggy kiss to celebrate her staying. Alf passes them, saying to get a room, and meets up with Marilyn. She says she’s done a terrible thing leaving John on his own but doesn’t think she can do it anymore.
