Extended Summary

Justin runs into Colby on the beach and wonders if there’s any news on the Diner robbery. Colby says they found a couple of sets of prints but they’re not in the database. Justin notes Leah was scared by what happened and Colby assures him it’s still an active investigation. At the caravan park house, Evan is giving Ryder a guitar lesson, with Alf and Roo hovering in the kitchen. Evan assures Ryder that he didn’t get good until his age, despite being in a band called the Chick Magnets when he was sixteen. He keeps coughing and Roo discreetly places a glass of water on the table.

Dean tries to encourage Ziggy to answer her parents’ calls, suggesting she might want to know if Maggie’s leaving. Ziggy ignores the subject, saying she wants to celebrate their anniversary and go exploring. She gets another call from Maggie but turns it off. At the farm house, Maggie comments on not being able to get hold of Ziggy. Ben suggests she might be at work or the beach and offers to go look for her.

At the Diner, Colby tells Leah and Justin that he’ll check out the file when he gets into work. Ben arrives looking for Ziggy. Justin says she’s not working at the garage today and Colby says she wasn’t upstairs just now, suggesting he try Dean. Meanwhile, Ziggy is leading Dean through the bush, trying to find a waterfall. She complains that the guide didn’t mention the long trek there and no-one ever talks about the hard part. Dean again tries to get her to go home to her parents but Ziggy wants to keep avoiding. Dean checks her phone and points out the right direction.

Alf is on the phone to Martha, talking about an art exhibition. Evan is continuing to give instructions to Ryder but begins coughing violently, which the oxygen doesn’t seem to help with. Ryder wants to call a doctor but Alf manages to steer him outside leaving Roo to look after Evan. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Dean are apparently nowhere near the waterfall still and Dean encourages Ziggy to go back. Ziggy is convinced that Ben and Maggie have decided to split for good, meaning her whole life will change: She’s always seen them as an epic love story. Dean convinces her she needs to face up to it.

Alf and Ryder walk on the beach. Ryder wonders if there’s anything that would make Evan more comfortable or buy him more time but Alf thinks he’s already done all that. Ryder notes that he gets on better with Evan than he ever did with Quinn and they could have had a great relationship, but instead he’s going to lose him. Back at the house, Roo asks Evan if he has any family he could stay with or palliative care set up. Evan says he didn’t have any plan beyond spending time with Ryder and thought he’d have time to sort everything else out afterwards. Roo says they can make arrangements if he wants to stay there but he needs to decide now.

Dean and Ziggy are driving back to town. Ziggy gets a text from Maggie asking her to come home because they need to talk. Dean takes her hand. Ben and Maggie are both at the farm house as Ziggy arrives back. They tell her that they’ve decided to put things in the past and give their marriage another go: They both think it’s worth fighting for. Ben confirms that he’s moving back in. Ziggy is surprised that it’s good news and sits down with them as they talk about being a family again.

Alf and Ryder arrive home and Evan tries to make light of what happened before. He suggests maybe Ryder could teach him something. Alf and Roo suggest he’s good at making cocktails and playing pool but Ryder doesn’t seem convinced that it’ll happen. He heads outside. Roo asks Alf if Ryder’s okay and Alf says he isn’t. At the Diner, Colby runs into Dean and gets a recap of what’s going on with Ziggy. He gets a phone call and tells Dean he’s been doing some digging on the Paratas since Gemma refused to give fingerprints. He thinks Ari’s his best lead since he’s got a record, despite Dean pointing out he does as well. Colby’s contacts have told him Tane’s involved but they could never prove anything, and queries Ari going from living in a caravan to living in a house with a pool and room for four people. Dean points out other people live there but Colby says Tane’s jobless and Gemma’s a casual waitress. Dean thinks he’s barking up the wrong tree.

Dean meets Ziggy at Salt and she tells him about Ben and Maggie reuniting. Although she’s happy, she’s not sure how much she should invest because she isn’t sure they’ll manage it. Dean asks if she showed them the tattoo and she says that’s staying secret. Back at the house, Ben and Maggie have finished eating. Maggie says it was just her usual carbonara but Ben says he hasn’t had it in a while and insists on clearing the table. Maggie gets teary; Ben worries she’s having second thoughts but she says she’s just missed him. They hug and agree they’re looking forward to holding each other tonight.

The Stewarts have finished eating and Alf goes to pick up Martha from art class. Evan gets Ryder to sit with him and says he’s decided to leave town tomorrow. Ryder tries to get him to stay longer but Evan says there’s no time. Ryder doesn’t like the idea of him dying alone or in a hospital with strangers. He storms upstairs. Later, Roo tells Evan that Ryder’s not coming down this evening. Evan says it’s getting harder to hide the pain and he’d rather Ryder hate him than have to watch. He asks Roo to help make Ryder understand and Roo says she’ll try.
