Desperate for answers, Robbo struggles with the fallout of Jasmine’s kidnapping. Roo’s plan to help Maggie and Ben reconnect backfires spectacularly. Can Dr Alex save Scott’s life?
Extended Summary
Robbo is near the beach. He checks his phone and starts to send a text asking if Jasmine got on the flight but is interrupted by Mason, who asks if everything’s all right. Robbo says that for the first time in a while it is and offers to give him a hand. They head back to the surf club where Mason gives an update on the gym: There’s been a 10% rise in membership and Willow even got Alex to sign up. Robbo gets a call from Lance saying Scott and Jasmine didn’t make it to the airport. At that moment, Colby comes downstairs, getting a radio message about a shooting on Hall Road. Robbo insists on going with him, explaining about Scott and Jasmine.
Ben finishes a phone call at the caravan park house. He tells Alf that his liaison officer says there may have been a development in Indonesia. Alf wonders what he’s doing for dinner; Ben says two minute noodles. Alf invites him to stay, saying he can put steaks on the barbecue, and that Leah’s at the Morgans’ and Ryder’s working so it’ll just be him and Roo. Ben agrees and Alf texts Roo to ask her to bring dessert. On the beach, Roo and Maggie are heading for a coffee, with Maggie pleased how things are going with Ben. Roo gets Alf’s text and, without mentioning Ben’s going to be there, invites Maggie to the barbecue.
Two ambulance officers are loading Scott up as Colby and Robbo arrive. Robbo checks the car and sees that there’s no sign of Jasmine and her phone has been left behind. They quiz the ambulance officers; the male ambo, Ken, says that Scott was the only one there and they need to get him to hospital. Colby tells Robbo they’ll follow on. Back at the Stewart house, Ben remarks to Alf that the feds think this has happened before. Roo arrives with Maggie; she and Ben are surprised to see each other. Alf summons Roo onto the patio and accuses her of interfering. Roo insists she’s just giving them the opportunity to talk to each other.
Alex recognises Scott as he is brought into hospital and wonders about Jasmine. She quickly confirms Ken’s diagnosis of both a pneumothorax and a haemothorax and carries out an emergency decompression. Robbo and Colby arrive but Alex tells them they’ll have to wait while she stabilises him. In the corridor, Robbo has a phone conversation with Lance. Alex is taking Scott out; a nurse reports his BP has dropped so they take him straight to surgery. Colby has to stop Robbo texting his attackers. Robbo gives instructions to a federal officer to check out the motel. As he and Colby wait, he gets a message saying there’s nothing there. Alex eventually brings Scott back; the surgeons have repaired the damage but he’s still heavily sedated. Robbo and Colby head to the police station to see the forensics report.
Roo practically forces the last slice of dessert on Ben, despite Alf trying to get her to cool it. Roo asks how Coco’s doing with the HSC; Ben admits he doesn’t really know. Roo starts to chat about Ryder but Alf has heard enough about the HSC. Roo instead asks Ben about the surf lessons but he says Dean hasn’t got back to him. Maggie asks about Irene; Roo starts chatting about how it’s dragging on until Alf nudges her and she apologises. Maggie asks for more wine. At the police station, Colby says not all of the blood at the scene was Scott’s. Robbo worries it was Jasmine’s but Colby points out Scott’s gun had been fired so he probably wounded one of their attackers. He asks what Jasmine’s blood type is; Robbo doesn’t know but says there’ll be a record at the hospital from the car crash. They get a call saying Scott’s woken up.
Alex lets Robbo and Colby in to see Scott but he is still groggy. He asks about Jasmine and they tell him she was gone when they got there. Scott recalls being run off the road; he told Jasmine to stay in the car but was apparently shot as soon as he got out. He can’t provide much of an explanation for when his gun was fired. Alex shuts down the questioning, saying they’ll have to come back in the morning. However, Robbo insists on staying as Scott’s friend, setting up camp next to his bed. Colby returns and tells Robbo the blood wasn’t Jasmine’s. Robbo notes the person injured would have been either dumped or needed medical attention, so tells Colby to check hospitals. Alex gets Robbo a coffee.
Maggie, somewhat inebriated, thanks Roo for a lovely night. Ben offers to drive her home; Maggie says she can get a cab but Ben notes they can’t afford that. After they leave, Roo is somewhat giddy but Alf is more cautious. Ben and Maggie arrive back at the farm house with Maggie stumbling slightly. Ben says he’ll pick her up in the morning and take her to collect her car at the caravan park. Maggie says he can stay the night since Ziggy isn’t there. Ben wants to get back to his van but Maggie is more forceful, saying she misses having him lie next to her. Ben, annoyed, asks if that’s what the night was about and leaves.
Next morning, Colby joins Robbo at the hospital with breakfast. Alex has been checking on Scott and lets them in to see him. Scott says the car was a green honda commodore but he didn’t get the registration. There were two men but he didn’t recognise them. Robbo says he’s spoken to Scott’s missus and that Lance has arranged to have him transferred to hospital in the city and “Toby and Anna” will be waiting for him there.
Maggie finds Ben on the beach and insists that there was no plan the previous night. Ben tells her that he can’t come home: He can’t pretend everything’s okay when it’s not and having to tiptoe around Maggie makes things harder. He tells her to respect what he needs. At Salt, Robbo buys a bottle of beer. Colby joins him and tries to encourage him but Robbo thinks they’ve no real leads and the kidnappers have a twelve hour headstart. Colby leaves him in disgust, saying he’s going to find Robbo’s wife.
