Extended Summary

Justin meets up with Willow near the surf club. She asks how Raffy is and he says she hasn’t had any more seizures; he’s going to get a coffee and shower then go back to the hospital. Willow says she’ll have to wait until after work to meet up with him, since she’s covering for Mason at the gym. After Justin’s gone, Dean appears; he has been out of town looking for Karen but didn’t find her. He turns down Willow’s offer of breakfast with her and Jasmine in favour of a surf. At the Diner, Roo, John and Irene discuss Ryder blaming himself for the accident and refusing to do his exams. Roo admits she misses Alf; Irene thinks she just needs time to get up to speed. Justin comes in and gives them an update on Raffy.

Justin runs into Robbo outside and gives him an update too, thanking him for checking on Tori. Robbo admits Tori does his head in, explaining about her telling him to go for it with Jasmine. Justin says she wouldn’t have said it if she hadn’t thought it through. At Salt, Jasmine complains to Willow that she’s humiliated herself twice, first by being rejected by Robbo and then by telling him to stay away: She was all set to be his friend but now she can’t be around him. Willow suggests pushing him away won’t help but Jasmine says she needs space. On cue, she gets a text from Robbo asking to meet but decides to ignore it.

Ryder runs into Dean near the surf club. Dean knows Raffy is back in hospital but doesn’t seem particularly interested in that or Ryder’s suggestion of a game of pool. A car speeds towards them and skids round in a loop. Karen gets out, clearly drunk and rather hyper, and the car speeds off. She can’t remember the name of the driver. Dean bundles her into his car, reminding her the police are after her. Back at the caravan park house, Roo and John arrive; John feels bad for having a go at Ryder. Ryder returns and refuses to discuss the exam. They tell him about Raffy but when he hears she still hasn’t come round he feels nothing has changed. They point out Raffy wouldn’t want him to fail his exams so she has to go into Year 12 without him. Ryder feels he wouldn’t concentrate but they persist.

Jasmine sees Robbo giving instructions to a gym trainer near the surf club. She tries to walk past and, when Robbo approaches, says she didn’t get his text. He tries to get her to go back to his or for a coffee but she insists she doesn’t want to talk. He says if she doesn’t he’ll yell what he wants to say after her. She carries on walking so he does so, saying he wants what she wants. It’s enough to make her stop and turn around. At the school, Roo and Ryder arrive. Roo says she has to collect some papers for her return to work. The examiner calls Ryder and the other students into the classroom and tells them to turn the papers over. Although everyone else starts studying them, Ryder barely looks at his.

Dean takes Karen back to the caravan park. It takes some effort to get her out of sight in the van. He tries to talk to her about where she’s been. She says she’s been drinking, dancing and having fun and insists she can take care of herself. She puts music on but Dean turns it off and tries to talk to her. Instead, she passes out on the bed. At the Diner flat, Jasmine asks Robbo what’s changed. He says he thought he needed to prioritise the baby. Jasmine says she wouldn’t have made him choose but he hurt her. Robbo points out she rejected him first and says she helped him see he can have a better life.

Ryder continues to sit still, not writing anything as the examiner checks the clock. She tells everyone to put their pens down and pass the papers to the front. Ryder’s is blank. He heads home where Roo is asleep on the sofa. When she wakes, he claims he did good and she says she knew he would. She offers to make him some food but he says he can look after himself and she should get to bed. He goes to the fridge and checks the food but instead ends up taking a pack of beer bottles and a van key.

Willow brings Dean a pizza; he is reluctant to leave Karen, who is still sleeping. He admits he doesn’t know where she’s been and she doesn’t understand how dangerous getting drunk and partying with strangers is. Willow thinks they should call Colby, warning Dean he’s making himself an accessory and jeopardising his parole. Dean is certain he can talk Karen round and Willow agrees to keep quiet. At the Diner, Jasmine is bending the ear of a fed-up Irene about Robbo’s declaration. Willow arrives and is filled in. Jasmine rambles about how Robbo will always put the baby first but it might still work. Irene points out Robbo hasn’t proposed, just asked her to date him, and the worst thing that can happen is that it doesn’t work out.

Roo comes downstairs on the phone to Alf and says she’ll put Ryder on, then realises he isn’t there. Despite this, she insists Duncan and Bryce need Alf more and Ryder is fine. In fact, he’s sat in a caravan, working his way through the beers. Meanwhile, Jasmine goes to see Robbo in his flat. She agrees to start something and they kiss.

Karen and Dean are finishing off the pizza. Dean says Willow brought it and Karen grudgingly acknowledges the assistance but says Dean needs to move on from her. Dean tries to talk to her but Karen declares she’s going to make dinner and busies herself at the stove. Dean tries to get her to see a doctor but Karen gets angry and ends up hitting him with the frying pan, knocking him out with a cut head. She tells him to look what he’s made her do. On the balcony at Salt, Willow texts Dean asking about Karen. Justin turns up and says there’s no change with Raffy. Seeing the phone, he asks if she’s expecting a call but she puts it face down and says she’s looking after him tonight.

Karen is continuing to work at the stove while Dean continues to lie prone nearby. Karen doesn’t seem to understand or accept that he’s hurt, accusing him of being too lazy to help. She turns the gas on but is unable to find matches, so in the end decides to forget it and sits down. The gas remains on.
