Extended Summary
As Charlotte stands looking out over the water it’s a beautiful day, but the rest of the bay is in mourning over Denny’s death. She looks into her handbag, down at the gun.
Hunter comes into the house, still struggling with the knowledge that his mother killed Denny. The other teens arrive home, and he joins them as Matt jokes around trying to cheer everything up. As the others go into the kitchen Maddy quietly tells Matt how sweet his attempts to lighten everyones’ mood are. Oscar clocks their closeness but shakes it off. Upstairs Zac and Leah talk. They think they should delay the wedding given the circumstances and they go downstairs and tell the teens who think it’s a shame.
A tearful Ricky looks down at Casey, appreciating the good things in her life. Nate comes round and Ricky tells him how life is short and they should make the most of everything. Nate smiles and tells her he feels the same, then tries once again to propose to her but knowing what’s coming, Ricky stops him by blurting out that she may be pregnant. They wait impatiently for the pregnancy test. As they wait, they talk and decide that neither of them is at all ready to have a baby at this point, but when the test is negative they seem a bit too relieved, both secretly a little disappointed.
At the diner Alf and Roo are unenthusiastic as Chris prances around topless wearing a bowtie. He says it’s for the waiters at Leah and Zac’s wedding, they need something to cheer them up, but his audience tell him to go back to the drawing board. Irene arrives back from visiting Fin and asks how the MacGuires are coping. Alf’s answer of ‘rough’ pretty much covers it and she remarks that at least they have the wedding to look forward to tomorrow. Alf quietly asks Chris to keep an eye on Irene and moments later Roo answers her phone to Leah, who tells her that they’re cancelling the wedding. Later on Chris pushes everyone to encourage Leah and Zac not to postpone. Alf speaks up saying he agrees and Evie asks to go and try to persuade them, she has something in mind which could help. Leah and Zac sit together quietly talking about all the plus points to delaying the wedding when Evie walks in with a gift. She tells them to open it – it’s Denny wedding present to them. Inside are two heart shaped mugs with an inscription including the wedding date. They decide that they can’t put it off now, it’s what Denny would have wanted.
The next morning Ricky and Nate admit to each other that they were disappointed to find that they weren’t pregnant, and Ricky lets slip that she knew Nate was going to propose… They talk awkwardly about the situation and decide they should forget about it, leaving it for sometime down the track. Nate has to go to work so he kisses Ricky and then Casey goodbye, leaving Ricky unsure how to feel.
Leah gets ready for the wedding upstairs with Roo and Evie while downstairs the guys are joking and having a beer as they finish getting dressed up. Meanwhile Charlotte has packed up and drives away from the bay… But as she passes the Welcome to Summer Bay sign she stops. She looks at the sign, and then at Leah and Zac’s wedding invitation, her heart filling with bitterness. She does a u-turn and heads back the way she came.
Hunter sits at the bottom of the stairs looking at photos of him and Charlotte in happier times, then starts to delete them. Zac comes looking for him and asks him to be the ring bearer. Hunter is surprised and thanks him for making him part of his family, calling Zac dad for the first time. As Zac and Hunter join the other guys and start to head out Alf shakes Zac’s hand and wishes him good luck. VJ goes upstairs and is wowed by how lovely Roo and Evie look. As they go downstairs VJ looks to his mum who is absolutely stunning and ready to marry the man she loves. As they step outside they are oblivious to Charlotte watching…
