Extended Summary

When Rachel goes to pay a credit card bill she discovers that there’s no money in the savings account and seeks some answers from Tony. He’s a little cagy and tells her that he needed to juggle some money between accounts to pay staff wages and that he’d sort things out. Rachel does some digging, and is alarmed to find out that Tony hasn’t paid himself in over a month. She confronts Tony and won’t be put off. Tony finally comes clean. The gym isn’t doing so well. The downturn in the economy has hit membership renewals hard. He knows he should’ve said something to her earlier, but after her recent post natal depression he didn’t want to worry her, especially as he couldn’t see a solution to the problem. Rachel thinks it’s easily fixed – she’ll just take a few extra shifts at the hospital. Tony doesn’t think that’s ideal, but he has to agree to it. And Rachel makes him promise not to hide any bad news from her again. After all they’re supposed to be a team.

Charlie, upset, confronts Ruby when she learns from Colleen that Ruby went to hospital yesterday after a hypoglycaemic attack. Ruby tells her she didn’t want Charlie to worry and she didn’t disturb her because she knew she was visiting Ross yesterday. Charlie doesn’t buy that – she wants to be kept abreast of what’s happening to her daughter. Ruby wants to handle things herself and is particularly annoyed by Charlie’s continual interference as she’s only just weaned Geoff off fussing over her. Ruby tries to get Charlie to back off, but Charlie won’t. She initially wants Ruby to move back home with her, but Ruby refuses point blank. Charlie keeps turning up at the apartment uninvited, and cooks and cleans the place. She then decides that if Ruby won’t come home and live with her, she’ll move in with her and Geoff – at least until Irene gets home. Ruby’s appalled by that, but Charlie’s adamant.

Leah’s worried about VJ’s recent antics. She still can’t believe that he water-bombed Miles’ car and she can’t seem to get through to him. Then, when she discovers that he’s unlocked the security blocks on the Diner’s computers, and allowed kids access to adult sites, she’s both furious and worried. It’s Romeo who realises that VJ is acting up because he’s being bullied by Riley and some of his mates. Leah and Miles go to see Riley’s father, Ian, but get little joy there. Ian thinks they should toughen VJ up with some karate or boxing classes. When Miles sees Riley he decides to talk to him. He tells him in no uncertain terms to keep away from VJ and feels sure that he’s dealt with the bullying problem once and for all, but Riley lets VJ know that he’ll “get” both VJ and Miles, and then sets out to make good on his threat.
