Episode 8528

Extended Summary

Bree thinks she should go and that Remi has rejected her. Remi insists that he hasn’t and that he doesn’t want her to force it or feel obligated. Bree says she thought it would make things go back to normal and thinks it’s proof she’s not enough for Remi. She mentions Eden saying if it was meant to happen it would. Abigail arrives (with a bag on her back) looking for Eden. Bree takes the opportunity to leave and Abby decides to go and find Eden at work. At the beach house, Irene and John are finishing a cup of tea. John thinks Irene wants an early night but Irene wants to tell Harper and Dana what’s going on and asks John to stick around.

Dana and Sonny are relaxing at Salt. Eden brings them drinks and briefly chats about Remi. Sonny suggests they have a romantic getaway at a five star hotel…or a four star on sale. Dana gets a text from John telling her to come home for a house meeting but she ignores it. At the beach house, Irene chats to Harper about Archie’s sleepover with Tane. Harper says Dana was with Sonny at Salt. John decides to go and get her.

Abigail comes in to Salt and comments to Eden on spending all her time avoiding awkward couples, noting Levi and Mackenzie are being secretive and she is hoping she can spend the night at hers (hence the bag). Eden agrees she can have Kirby’s old room. Dana and Sonny are canoodling when John looms up and says she needs to get home pronto. Sonny says John can’t tell her what to do, but a glare is enough to get him to back off. Back at the beach house, Irene is pacing, wondering where John is and what’s taken him so long. John arrives with Dana. Slightly hesitantly, Irene tells her and Harper that she’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Remi arrives at Salt and offhandedly agrees to Abigail staying. He then asks Eden not to try and help him and Bree. Eden points out that he told her to check on her. Remi thinks she said to get it over and done with, which Eden is confused by. Remi says he’s trying to fix things but Eden tells him not to blame her or Bree for the mess he created. Next morning, Dana meets Sonny by the surf club. Sonny tells her he’s booked the hotel but Dana says she doesn’t want to go anymore, saying she needs to look after Irene. Sonny tries to push her for a reason but Dana ends up walking off.

John turns up at the beach house and asks Harper how Irene is. Irene comes downstairs and is grateful to John for bringing breakfast. Dana turns up and says Irene should be eating healthily. Irene says the stuff from the Diner is fine. Dana tries to impress on her the research she’s been doing but ends up surrendering the point.

At the Lyrik house, Abigail appears with a list she’s found in Eden’s room: “Busking. Session work. Wedding singer.” She realises she’s been thinking of getting into music again. Remi comes through and Abigail heads off to work. Remi apologises to Eden and reluctantly admits that Bree tried to force things between them. Eden equally reluctantly repeats what Bree said about imagining him touching Avalon. She suggests Remi needs to learn to forgive himself first.

Remi and Bree meet in a park area. Bree apologises but Remi says she has nothing to apologise for. He says he can’t change what he did or how he made her feel but hopes one day it might not be an issue. He says they have their whole lives to work it out. At the surf club, John thinks Alf is chasing him up about an invoice. Alf says he’s heard about Irene’s Alzheimer’s and he’s there for both her and John if they need anything.

Sonny turns up at the beach house and tells Dana he’s cancelled the booking but hopes they can hang out there. He pushes her to tell him what’s going on. Dana tells him Irene has Alzheimer’s. Irene listens from the stairs as Dana says she has the skills to look after Irene and Sonny agrees Irene should be the priority. Later, Bree and Remi see Sonny outside the surf club. Remi goes over to him and Sonny says Irene isn’t good, but doesn’t give details. He says he’s glad to see Remi and Bree together and has heard from her about last night. He tells Remi not to be an idiot if a beautiful woman throws herself at him…if she’s his girlfriend.

Up in Salt, Abigail suggests Eden go solo like Kirby but she doesn’t want to perform on her own. Abigail suggests a duo with Remi. She gets a text saying Levi and Abigail have gone away and realises she has the house to herself. Remi and Bree come in and Abigail pushes Eden into suggesting the duo idea to Remi. Remi doesn’t think it’s the time but, when Bree says they have the rest of their lives, agrees to think about it.

At the Diner, Irene, John and Harper notice Archie is asleep. John says it must be tiring being a cute baby and charming everyone. Irene asks Harper about Dana’s reaction. Harper suggests Dana might think she can help. She gets a text from Tane to drop off Archie at his. Irene tells Leah that her lawyer is arranging a valuation of the Diner. She then tells John that Dana is treating her like a project. John encourages her to stand up to Dana.

Irene goes home and tells Dana what she’s been up to. Dana produces some vitamins she’s bought that she’s heard will help her. Irene stops her and says she doesn’t want Dana giving up her holiday for her. She says she’s kicking her out for 48 hours and if she doesn’t pack straightaway, she’ll make it a week. Dana awkwardly complies. Meanwhile, Alf meets up with Harper on the beach and says he’s heard about Irene. Harper says she’s been thinking about what her life would have been like if she’d married Tane and been a happy family. She notes Irene has been her rock and she assumed she’d be around forever.

Dana finds Sonny at the surf club and says she can go away if she wants, before explaining Irene won’t let her look after her and kicked her out. Sonny gives her a hug.
