Extended Summary

Xander brings Dana a coffee near the surf club, noting she’s been doing night shifts all week. Dana says it’ll keep her awake during her lifesaving shift. Xander says he’s arranged with Mackenzie to finish early so he can meet her. Dana says she has to head home to meet Bronte, who Harper has told her is lovely. At the Diner, John welcomes Irene back to town. Irene admits she nearly forgot they’d arranged to meet, saying she had a tough night. John says he did too but then dismisses the subject and asks what her problem is. Irene tells him about bringing Bronte to stay with her after meeting her at the hospital and that she has some health issues.

Mackenzie says she feels sick and Levi says Imogen’s just trying to get under her skin and isn’t normally like this. Mackenzie wonders why Imogen would suddenly do this and says Levi hasn’t spoken to her lately. Levi says he doesn’t have any answers. At the surf club, Xander and Dana are playing pool when John turns up. Dana notes he’s late and he says he was helping Irene. Dana says she’s hoping to meet Bronte later. She follows John into the office and sees the gardening stuff. John dismisses it as nothing and Dana notes she was hoping for a mystery.

Levi joins Mackenzie sitting on the bed, commenting on the end of their fresh start. Mackenzie wonders what she’s meant to do with the wedding rings and if she should throw them away. She asks him to tell her what’s going on and why Imogen would suddenly decide to do this. Levi shrugs off the question. Mackenzie notes Imogen knows where they live. Levi says he didn’t tell her.

Levi goes round to see Eden, who confirms she told Imogen the address after she called and asked her. She says Imogen was upset by him telling her to move on and was drunk when she called. She wonders if he actually thinks Imogen’s dangerous. Levi accuses her of meddling in his relationship and she says she’s supporting his wife.

John and Dana are patrolling a remote section of the beach in the buggy. They see a group of surfers crowded around a crate. John says he knew there was something going on and Dana protests that he said it was nothing. They go over and Justin notes it must have come up in the swell last night and John was right about there being something weird going on.

At Salt, Levi tells Mackenzie it was Eden who gave Imogen the address. Mackenzie again tries asking why Imogen would suddenly do it. Xander interrupts to ask about leaving early and Mackenzie asks him to wait. Levi says Imogen was drunk and decides to go home and clear the boxes, cutting Mackenzie off when she tries to tell him something.

John clears all the onlookers away leaving just him, Justin and Dana looking the crate over. John says the maritime people hadn’t had any reports, leading Dana to speculate it’s a cover-up or government conspiracy. She makes an attempt to open it but it’s locked. John starts taking photos, saying he’ll send them to the authorities. Dana starts doing the same, a bit less smoothly.

Mackenzie asks Xander if he can make his afternoon off a short lunch break. Xander protests he had plans with Dana. Mackenzie says she’s going to go to the city to return the rings to Imogen. Xander calls it the single worst idea he’s ever heard in his life: Imogen doesn’t like her and won’t like her turning up. Mackenzie doesn’t want to send Levi. Xander asks if there’s anyone else.

John finishes a phone call in the office and tells Justin and Dana that the authorities are going to come and get the crate…but not for another 48 hours. He bemoans having to hire security overnight. Justin is happy to leave them to it. Dana isn’t happy with the idea of not getting to know what’s inside it. She says people online claim it’s up for salvage and admits that she posted about it on a forum for weird stuff where there’s theories about drugs or UFO parts. John isn’t impressed. Later, John tries to insist they leave it alone. Dana suggests it might have drugs or guns in it…or treasure. The last one gives him pause but he insists they have to protect the beach. Xander comes down and asks Dana about their lunch date.

Mackenzie goes round to see Eden and tells her about Imogen sending her the rings in anger. She asks Eden to return them to her. Eden looks over the note and approves, refusing to take the rings back. Mackenzie picks up the rings and prepares to leave. Eden tells her to stop baiting Imogen. Mackenzie asks what she means and Eden realises Levi didn’t tell her about talking to Imogen, saying he’s keeping secrets from her already.

At the Diner flat, Dana is filling Xander in on everything, saying one of the people on the forum has an uncle in freight control who says stuff is smuggled in all the time. Xander thinks John’s right that she should stay out of it. Dana says John’s not the boss of her…then admits she heard that as soon as she said it. She says it’s not about what’s inside the crate but about proving John doesn’t know everything.

Levi runs into Mackenzie outside the surf club. She tells him about going to see Eden and also that she looked at his phone and knows he called Imogen when he said he was calling a mate. Levi says she should trust him and Mackenzie says Imogen did that. Levi shows her the texts and says he thought he owed Imogen a call. Mackenzie says she gave him every opportunity to tell the truth. Levi says she could have asked him outright and he thought at least the two of them were on the same side.

John drives up to the crate and nonchalantly produces some bolt cutters…to find Dana hiding behind it clutching a crowbar. After accepting they’re there for the same reason, they decide to break into it together.

Mackenzie heads home: The boxes are gone and when she calls out for Levi she gets no response. She makes a call saying she’s sorry and to call her.
