Extended Summary

Viv’s death has devastated Alf. She was his first true love and she has been taken from him again – this time forever. He is also struggling with her revelation that years ago she secretly gave birth to his son. Alf is emotionally adrift and unsure what to do next.

Dani is also shattered by her death. Scott wants her to drop the additional manuscript – it contains sensitive information about Alf’s past. But it helps make sense of the full manuscript which is all Dani has left of Viv and she is determined to see it published. (She also knows how important it could be for her career.) But she makes it clear she will speak to Alf first – she doesn’t want him hurt.

Laura has agreed to help Kirsty cheat on her physics exam. If Kirsty can’t finish the exam, Laura will secretly take her place. Since they’re twins, no one should realise. Laura doesn’t approve of cheating, but she’s compelled to help due to the guilt she still feels for not helping during Kirsty’s kidney crisis. Kirsty makes it clear that she’ll only use Laura if it’s absolutely necessary.

Despite a confident start to the exam, Kirsty struggles and decides to make the switch. She excuses herself from the exam room to go to the toilet – where Laura is hiding. The invigilators suspect nothing when Laura returns to the exam room in Kirsty’s place. But while trying to leave the school in a disguise, Kirsty is sprung by Dan. He forces her to switch places back with Laura and resume her exam. In the end, Kirsty’s love for Kane provides the necessary motivation for her to finish the exam. But will Dan report her for cheating?

Stafford pays Dani a surprise visit – supposedly all in the name of helping with the publication of the manuscript. But Stafford is really motivated by his feelings for Dani. Scott is left feeling shut out by Dani and Stafford’s business relationship. Scott’s also disappointed that she seems to be more interested in the manuscript than Alf’s feelings. Later, Alf tells Dani and Stafford that they can do whatever they want with the manuscript, except for the beginning section – that’s personal to him and Viv! They all agree.

Dan has decided not to report Kirsty’s attempt at cheating. He accepts it was one moment of foolish madness. Besides, Laura wasn’t in the room long enough to effect Kirsty’s result. After all the cruel blows life has dealt her, Dan thinks she deserves this break. The gratitude she feels towards Dan is immense. She knows what he has done for her is remarkable. It’s now time for her to celebrate the end of school and the beginning of a new phase of her life.
