Extended Summary
Mason and Willow are setting up a class on the beach. Mason comments on Willow seeming distracted and she says she’s worried about Irene. Alex joins them and they banter about the class, before Mason says they’ll start with some stretching. At that point, John arrives, telling Mason he got a call from Marilyn, who is taking Raffy home, about her having a seizure. Willow says she’ll do the class and Alex says to call her if they need anything. Meanwhile, Raffy arrives back at the Palmer house with Justin and Marilyn. She asks for a shower and is annoyed at Marilyn offering to help her. John and Mason arrive, further crowding her, and Justin rescues things by sending Raffy and Marilyn off for the shower. He tells the others that Raffy wet herself and that Ryder timed the seizure at over three minutes, her longest ever.
Willow and Alex arrive back at the gym. They briefly discuss Raffy before Willow helps Alex with a cramp. Alex senses Willow has something on her mind and assumes it’s a man. Willow explains two of her friends are having a hard day. Back at the Palmer house, Justin, John and Mason discuss the fact Raffy seems to be getting worse and the CBD oil would have helped her, with Justin being particularly despondent. Marilyn and Raffy return and Raffy asks them not to act like she’s going to fall apart. They ask her if she wants to go back to school or stay at home. She isn’t keen on everyone staying and watching her so John and Mason leave. Raffy looks pointedly at Justin and he asks if she meant him too. Raffy says she doesn’t care and lies down on the sofa.
Colby and Bella arrive back at the flat in a rush with Bella suddenly feeling that she can’t testify. She is worried about letting Irene down despite Colby saying it’s not her fault. Outside the court house, Irene and Leah wonder where Bella’s got to. Irene’s lawyer, Mr Collins, comes up and says it’s time to go in. Irene hesitates outside the door, looking frightened, but gathers herself and goes in. In the court, the prosecutor opens the case saying there is no doubt. He acknowledges that Tommy is facing charges himself and Irene was brave in protecting Bella from him. However, he also states that after the threat was over, Irene launched into a sustained assault and then, instead of calling an ambulance, dumped him on the footpath.
At the surf club, Willow fills Alex in on her worries about Colby and Bella being in court, saying they’re family. Alex queries the description and Willow admits they’re not actually; Alex understands. Willow asks her about her family. Alex says they’ve had their issues like all families but they’re tight now. John and Mason come back and give an update on Raffy. Alex follows Mason into the gym offering help. Mason asks if there’s anything she can do other than a medication review, EEG and head CT. Alex notes he knows his stuff and Mason explains he has a degree, agreeing with her that the gym is a stopgap until his internship. He explains that he’s doing it in WA because he didn’t get a place locally.
Raffy snoozes on the sofa as Justin and Marilyn chat. She is woken by her phone and says it’s from Ryder asking what’s going on. She notes she’s not his problem anymore. Marilyn offers her some food but she decides to go for a walk instead. Despite her saying she doesn’t want company, Justin insists on going with her. Marilyn awkwardly calls after them to enjoy the fresh air. Soon after, Justin and Raffy are walking near the beach. Alex approaches them; Raffy admits she’s sore and tired and Alex suggests she’s also embarrassed. Raffy notes she kept an eye on her eating and sleeping and was meditating. Justin agrees to leave them alone and meet Raffy at the surf club. Raffy admits to Alex that she felt like she was in control. Alex says she should keep a journal so they can find out her triggers. Raffy recalls keeping one for Mason, telling Alex about his unofficial/illegal CBD trial.
Bella wonders if her testimony will still be read out. Colby isn’t sure but doesn’t think her not being there will stop the trial. He wonders what happened, given that she went through her testimony with the lawyer. Bella says she’d have to do it in front of everyone and worries she’d look stupid. Back at the court, the prosecutor prepares to call the first witness…and a nurse wheels in Tommy, in a wheelchair with a neck brace. Irene says he wasn’t meant to be there and Collins protests he isn’t on the witness list. The prosecutor argues that his testimony is and he’s made a lot of effort to be there, so the judge allows it. Tommy is helped into the stand and sworn in. He says he went to the house because he and Bella were going to a photography exhibition together. He claims they started to get intimate then she changed her mind, then Irene came home and got the wrong idea. He says he was going to leave but Irene started hitting him while Bella screamed at her that she’d kill him. Irene loudly protests.
At the surf club, Justin and John talk about Alex helping Raffy. Justin then gets a text from Leah about Tommy being in court. Willow overhears and worries about the effect on Irene and Bella. Justin doesn’t know if Bella’s testified yet. Willow tries to call Colby. At the Diner, Marilyn has got a similar message and complains to Alf about Irene being treated like this when Tommy’s the criminal. Alf points out he hasn’t been tried yet but thinks he’ll get his. Justin and Raffy turn up; Raffy is in a good mood and accepts Justin’s offer to shout her a meal. After she’s out of earshot, Justin tells Marilyn that the positivity’s down to Alex but also wonders how long it will last.
Colby and Bella arrive in the court room; Bella heads towards the stand while Colby sits with Leah. She tells him she’s been trying to get hold of him to tell him Tommy’s there. Bella takes the stand but freezes when she sees Tommy in his wheelchair in the aisle, despite Collins and the judge trying to prompt her. Back at the gym, Willow wonders why Colby isn’t answering her calls and Mason tries to talk her out of going to court. Alex arrives and tells Mason that Raffy filled her in on his trial but she agrees CBD oil should be widely available and has asked the director of medicine to reconsider his internship. She invites them both for dinner; Willow is reluctant but eventually they both agree.
Collins is now leading Bella in her testimony. Bella says when Irene came home she was in the bedroom, with Tommy on top of her holding her down. She says she called out for help and Irene came. However, she is starting to crumble and having flashbacks. Colby gets up, loudly announcing that’s enough and then lunging at Tommy and having to be restrained. Both Irene and Bella look distressed while Tommy looks triumphant.
