Extended Summary

Ryder joins Raffy on the Salt balcony and apologises for keeping her waiting. Raffy says sorry for pushing him away earlier. She was hurt by the break-up but she doesn’t hate him and wants to move on. John and Marilyn join Justin and Leah and they all watch Raffy share a joke with Ryder; John claims it was down to him giving Ryder advice earlier. The teens rejoin them and Raffy says she wants an early night before going back to school tomorrow. Leah asks Marilyn why she isn’t closing the Diner and Marilyn says Irene insisted. Leah is suspicious when she hears Irene was going to clean the fryer, which she hates doing. At the Diner, Irene looks round one last time and turns off the lights…as Leah comes barging in. She sees the note and Irene fails to stop her reading it. Irene says the article was right about her and she can’t put Bella through testifying for nothing. Leah says if she runs she’s letting Bella down: They both deserve justice.

Colby and Bella arrive back at the Diner flat. Colby remarks that Bella didn’t say anything about his playlist. Bella obliges by saying that it sucked but is more concerned with what the lawyer said. Colby reminds her that Tommy’s still in hospital so will be giving evidence by video link. Bella tells him to go to Salt, indicating someone there might be pleased to see him. At Salt, Ryder serves Roo and Maggie and attributes his good mood to liking his job. Roo mentions she saw Maggie talking to Ben earlier; Maggie says there isn’t much talking involved, she’s stopped trying to fix things and just spends time with him. Colby comes in and Maggie asks him about Bella; Colby isn’t going to press her about returning to school although Maggie is worried she might end up isolated. Colby kisses Mackenzie; Roo tries to question Ryder about it but he calls it old news. Colby noted the lawyer kept getting Bella to go over the details and asks Mackenzie to come back with him tonight.

Next morning, Raffy and Ryder are at the Diner. Leah and Marilyn discuss Irene being late but she turns up moments later and thanks Leah for talking her out of leaving, agreeing that she has to try. Ryder asks Raffy what she’d do hypothetically to get a friend to come back to school. Up in the flat, Bella sees Mackenzie has stayed over and notes she did the right thing getting Colby to go to Salt. Colby joins them as Bella explains she’s going over the lawyer’s instructions. Raffy and Ryder turn up and tell Bella they’re talking again and want her to go to school with them. Bella protests she hasn’t got a lunch so Raffy goes to get her something from the Diner. Ryder insists he won’t go without Bella and says Raffy doesn’t know. Bella thinks everyone will work out she was the one Irene protected but Ryder says he didn’t work it out. He thinks going to school will make it easier for her to face court and give her something to do today. Bella agrees to go; Colby checks she’s sure before she goes to get dressed.

Irene brings Alf a drink outside the bait shop and he commiserates with her on the online article. Raffy, Ryder and Bella appear, all in school uniform and discussing the lunch Raffy has bought Bella. Bella exchanges a few words with Irene before they walk on. Leah joins Alf and Irene, and Irene notes that if Bella can be brave like that so can she. As the teens arrive at the school, Raffy asks Bella why she’s had time off. Bella says she’s been sick and Ryder quickly backs her up, saying he saw her throwing up once. Raffy heads off to meet Maggie and Ryder notes that Bella can always threaten to throw up on people if they ask too many questions. Roo sends Ryder off to class. Bella tells Roo she still wants to drop photography and asks her to tell Mr Nowra.

Roo and Bella head into the classroom. Bella seems a bit nervous when the girl in the next table looks at her but gestures to Roo that she’s fine to continue. In the office, Raffy tells Maggie that she’s intending to make positive changes and get good marks on the next set of exams. She asks about extra tutoring, wondering if they can start today. Maggie says she has a commitment after work but can meet her at lunchtime. They chat briefly about Maggie’s problems and how Coco wishes she could be there. After Raffy’s gone, Maggie leaves Ben a message saying she’ll come and see him after school and hopes he can be there.

Irene is having a heated phone conversation on the beach while Alf, Leah and Colby look on. She tells them that the judge is considering delaying the trial; he saw the online article and is worried it might influence the jury. Alf thinks it’s good he’s looking out for her but the others worry about the effect on Bella after she’s got herself ready for it. Colby says to let him know when she hears for sure: If there’s a delay, it could be weeks or months. Later, at the Diner, Irene is trying to keep busy despite Leah and Marilyn’s concerns. Justin turns up, shortly followed by Raffy and Ryder. Raffy thinks her meditation helped: There’s been no seizures or loss of concentration. Justin, Marilyn and Leah all make pointed remarks about positive thinking and Irene agrees to accept help.

Maggie is leading the Year 12 class through a multiple choice question from last year’s exam: Raffy ends up giving the correct answer. Class finishes with Maggie saying she’ll e-mail them some more questions. Bella joins Raffy and Ryder and they decide to go play pool; Roo reminds them to study as well. Maggie worries that she hasn’t heard back from Ben. She heads to the caravan park and her worry increases as she finds the van shut up with no sign of Ben. She sees a note in the door, opens it apprehensively…and finds it say he’ll be back by five and hopes she can wait, plus his phone battery’s dead. Maggie smiles and sits down on the steps.

That night, Irene and Leah are alone in the Diner when Irene gets a text message. Up in the flat, Bella silently goes to her room. Colby gets a text message from Irene that he shows to Mackenzie: The trial is going ahead. Next morning, at school, Ryder texts Bella saying he’s thinking of her. Raffy arrives and wonders where Bella is; Ryder just says that she’s busy. They start to talk about the Maths questions but then Raffy has a fit. Roo and Maggie arrive, shooing the other students away while Ryder times her.

Irene, Leah, Justin, Colby, Bella and Mackenzie are all near the beach. Irene thanks Bella for testifying for her and Leah says the judge thinks they can select a jury. Marilyn arrives and tells Justin that Raffy’s had a seizure and is asking for them. Justin goes with her and Mackenzie walks the others to the car. Irene stops and looks around, as if afraid she won’t see it again.
