Chris’ devotion to Hannah grows as she undergoes her double mastectomy. Evelyn struggles to deal with Hannah’s surgery. Kyle’s shocked when Isla kidnaps her children.
Extended Summary
It’s the morning of Hannah’s double mastectomy and she’s feeling nervous and sad undergoing such an extreme change to her body. Evelyn and Oscar are also coming to terms with the surgery but are determined to stay strong for their aunt. Andy is shocked to learn Hannah tested positive for the BRCA1 gene and ask if there’s anything he can do for Hannah. Josh thinks there is something Andy can do…
Isla’s excited to be seeing her daughters even though their father, Harry, will be supervising the visit. Isla explains Harry doesn’t trust her; he’s a good guy but doesn’t let her see the girls much – plus last time she saw them she was still working for Dave. Kyle buoys her saying that today is a new start, and soon she’ll have a great lawyer (with the help of Kyle’s money) and she’ll be spending more time with the girls. Isla asks Kyle to accompany her to the visit, saying he can be a witness just in case anything happens… and she wants him there too. Kyle agrees.
Hannah’s surprised when Evelyn rocks up with Oscar, Josh and Andy to cook, clean and set up the house as low maintenance as possible for Hannah’s recovery. Hannah’s buoyed and leaves for the hospital feeling stronger but Josh sees Evelyn is shaky during the farewells. When Josh tires to comfort her she distracts herself, focussing on cooking. Later as Evelyn manically moves onto cleaning Josh pulls her up to take a break and admit she’s scared for Hannah. Evelyn does stop but doesn’t want to think about it. Josh simply pulls her into a hug.
At the beach, Isla receives a warm reception from her daughters, Lulu and Florence, as the three share an excited hug. Kyle introduces himself to Harry who relaxes when he finds out Kyle is not one of Dave’s people. However, he refuses to believe Kyle when he tries to convince him Isla is changing her life for the better. Harry warns Kyle that Isla is never going to change, so he shouldn’t get his hopes up.
Hannah is in her gown, ready to go into surgery and being wheeled down the corridor when she gets scared again. Chris is her rock, reassuring her but Hannah can’t help but question what she’s doing. As she enters the elevator all Chris can do is call out he loves her. Once she’s gone, Chris becomes dispirited. Ricky stops by to give Chris prints of the photo shoot he did with Hannah the day before and he becomes emotional, gazing at the pictures of him and Hannah embracing, in love.
Isla’s visit comes to an end but Florence asks to see her again in the morning. Harry quickly shuts it down; they’re leaving first thing so there won’t be time for a visit. The girls sadly move off as Isla asks Harry to reconsider but Harry’s determined to protect his daughters from their mother. Deeply hurt, Isla cries when they leave.
Back at the house, Kyle is trying to comfort Isla when she starts kissing him. Kyle’s surprised and Isla asks, but this is what he wants right? Kyle realises Isla’s only been having sex with him thinking that’s why he’s helped her with accommodation and money. Isla’s embarrassed and walks out. Kyle finds her later on the beach and tires to set things straight. Isla admits that she used to sleep with men to get drugs; that’s the life Dave helped her out of and the secret he knows. Kyle insists it’s in the past and all that matters is what she does now. Kyle adds he’s helping her because he really does care, and they slept together because he likes her. Isla admits she likes him too and apologises for being a little crazy. Isla then offers to cook Kyle dinner and makes plans to meet Kyle back at the house after she picks up the groceries.
Hannah’s operation goes well but she’s very groggy in recovery. Chris sits by her side, telling her how while she was in there, he was thinking all about their future together. Holidays, a house, kids; he’s all in, totally devoted to her.
Kyle begins to worry about how much time Isla’s taking at the shops when there’s a knock on the door. It’s Harry and he’s furious – Isla has kidnapped the girls. A shocked Kyle wants to head out and find her but Ricky stops him, telling him Isla has crossed a line and he knows it. Kyle relents, disappointed. He gave her all the help she needed… Ricky says some people just can’t be helped.
Chris is thrilled when Hannah finally wakes up but is alarmed when she wheezes, gasping for air. Chris calls for help and Nate discovers she’s had an anaphylactic shock from the pain medication. A distraught Chris is escorted from the room as the hospital staff work quickly to save Hannah’s life. Chris watches on, scared – will she be okay?
