Extended Summary
Chris is waiting anxiously outside Hannah’s room as Nate and the hospital staff work to stabilise her. Leah arrives with flowers and Chris tells her that Hannah woke up struggling to breath. Soon Nate emerges and tells them that Hannah should be okay but they’ll have to keep a close eye on her. As Chris goes in to see Hannah, we find out her pain level is quite high. Chris sits with her all afternoon, trying to distract her with all the text messages her friends are sending through. Later Nate comes in to send Chris home but he doesn’t want to go. Hannah assures him she’s okay and they both need rest. In the hall, Chris expresses his worry to Nate about her pain level. Nate reiterates it’s normal given what she’s been through. But after Chris leaves, Hannah is visibly struggling. Later in the evening, Hannah looks at the photos Chris left of their photoshoot, and it’s almost too much for her to bare.
Meanwhile Phoebe, Ash & Andy are wondering how Hannah’s going. Ash comments how much guts Hannah must have to go through it, which makes Phoebe comment why he would think she wouldn’t – clearly they’re just picking at each other. Dylan is passing and checks in with Ash about paying his bill for his car service. Once he leaves, Phoebe notes how friendly Ash was to him and more bickering ensues. Andy tells them to quit it; ever since the garage opened they’ve been at each other over everything. The couple then sit silently in denial.
Alf and Morag drop by the diner and spy Dylan getting takeaway. Morag can’t resist having a go, telling him that it’s only a matter of time before she finds all the holes in his case against Zac. She threatens to discredit him completely and get him thrown off the force. Dylan tries to hide any worry, but makes a trip back to the station to grab Zac’s file. He runs into Kat and shares the threat Morag made. Kat thinks its ridiculous but Dylan decides it just means he has to be sure he gets a conviction for Zac – his career depends on it. Kat then catches Morag and Alf on their way home and comments that going after the lead detective in the case, meaning Dylan, might not be the way to go. Morag is surprised, and insinuates she knows all about Kat’s past with Dylan. She seems to have good judgement otherwise, which is why Morag is so puzzled over Kat defending Dylan. As Alf pulls Morag away, Kat turns and sees Phoebe has overheard the whole conversation. Back at the house, Phoebe wonders why Kat is defending Dylan if she doesn’t have feelings for him? Kat is annoyed at the constant questioning but Phoebe won’t let up. At breaking point, Kat admits she does feel their old connection between her and Dylan. But she’s never going to forgive him for what he did. She’s never going back there. Phoebe’s not fully convinced but leaves a frustrated Kat alone. Later that night, Dylan is texting Kat and from her expression it’s clear she is falling for him all over again.
The following day at the garage, Phoebe turns up with car cleaning stuff and suggests the boys offer cleaning & coffee with their car servicing. Ash doesn’t go for it and Phoebe thinks they need to get organized – they don’t even have a name yet! As the bickering continues, Dylan shows up to pay his bill. As Ash leads him to the office, Phoebe has a quick aside to Dylan and warns him off Kat – Phoebe knows exactly who he is and isn’t about to let him ruin her friend’s life. Later, when Phoebe is on the phone to a customer she promises them a wash and wax as part of their car service. Ash is annoyed she’s offering things they don’t do but Phoebe reminds him this garage wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for her. She’s just trying to help. Ash thinks she’s not – she knows nothing about cars or business so she’s just in the way. Phoebe storms out, hurt. Ash rushes after her and apologises for being a jerk. Phoebe admits she doesn’t feel like she’s helping much and Ash reveals he feels she doesn’t trust him to run this business. Phoebe insists she does and agrees to back off a bit. These two finally stop bickering and make up.
Later at the Diner, Dylan grabs a coffee and takes the opportunity to try and apologise to Leah about Zac’s arrest – he was just doing his job, and so was Kat. But Leah isn’t have a bar of it. As he exits, Chris enters to grab some muffins before heading in to see Hannah again. Leah asks how she is and Chris admits he thinks she’s shutting him out. Leah reminds him it’s huge what she’s going through and all Chris has to do is be there for her. When he gets back to the hospital, Hannah seems down and when Chris asks her to tell him what she’s feeling she breaks down crying. She realizes she can’t take it back now. Chris tells her this is normal; regret is one of the most common feelings after surgery like this. As Chris elaborates Hannah realizes just how much research Chris has done to understand what she’s going through. He reminds her he’ll be here by her side for whatever she needs.
Kat is out for a jog when she crosses with Dylan. He makes a joke about all the watchdogs she has in this town, mentioning Phoebe having a go at him before. Kat says she didn’t ask her to do that. Dylan humbly admits that what he did to her is unforgivable and he should have it rubbed in his face for the rest of his life. Kat’s touched by his honesty. Dylan wonders how he ever lost Kat… the moment is charged and Dylan leans in and kisses Kat. After a moment Kat pushes him away and tells him to go. As Kat jogs off wondering how she just let that happen, it’s revealed that Leah has seen the exchange and isn’t impressed.
