Extended Summary

Leah catches up with Kat and demands to know what’s going on with Dylan. How she’s meant to trust Kat’s professional judgment if she’s currently romancing the lead investigator in the case against Zac? Kat swears it’s not what it looks like and she’s able to keep her work and personal life separate. Leah’s incredulous – she thinks Kat has well and truly crossed a line. Kat is clearly rattled, taking a moment alone on the pier to digest what just happened.

At the diner, Matt is planning on working the bar at Angelo’s for a big uni party that’s happening there tonight. Maddy’s concerned that Matt might not be prioritising his uni work over his job, but Matt insists he’s got things under control. When Maddy suggests they study after lunch, Matt dismisses the idea and heads off to the beach. Roo witnesses the exchange and as Maddy settles the bill she admits she’s worried Matt isn’t taking uni seriously. Meanwhile Leah enters to find VJ hard at work with Roo. Leah’s concerned VJ is spending too much time helping out at the diner, and she orders him to go out and have some fun. VJ argues that’s not exactly easy given Zac’s in jail, but Leah stresses the fact they have to stay positive and put their faith in Morag’s efforts to get Zac released.

Irene and Claire, meanwhile, are getting along like a house on fire. Skye challenges Olivia to admit that she’s starting to like Claire. Olivia won’t concede to any such thing; she’s reserving judgment for when the results of the DNA test come back. Olivia later questions Irene again over whether she’s thought more about getting a DNA test but Irene insists she knows in her heart that her and Claire are related. Olivia feels slightly guilty, knowing the results from the test she did should be back any day now…

Kat goes to Dylan and tells him very firmly the kiss was a one off, a momentary lapse of judgement, and mostly importantly a mistake. There is nothing romantic between the two of them and never will be again. Dylan argues the point, insinuating Kat is in denial. Sooner or later Kat will realise they’re meant to be together. Kat refuses to concede. It’ll never happen – and the sooner Dylan returns to the city, the better.

Skye informs Olivia the results of the DNA test have arrived in the mail, and Hunter’s appalled when Olivia reluctantly explains what she’s done. A huge fight ensues, as Hunter insists that Olivia had no right to stick her nose in to something like this. You don’t mess around when it comes to someone’s identity; their family. Olivia remains defensive and Hunter storms off, horrified with what Olivia’s done.

Leah is explaining to Alf and Morag what she witnessed between Kat and Dylan when Morag receives a call from her team in the city – a piece of evidence has come to light that will potentially clear Zac’s name. He “liked” a photo whilst on his walk after the wedding, which pin pointed his location near the caravan park at the time of charlotte’s murder. He couldn’t have shot her! Leah is both ecstatic and scared, as Morag decides to head to the city to put pressure on the DPP to release Zac. Could this really be the breakthrough they’ve been waiting for? Later Alf notices Leah’s efforts not to get her hopes up and tries to point out that Morag isn’t a glass half full kind of person. If Morag thinks there’s a real chance of Zac getting out, Leah should allow herself to get excited.

Dylan’s unhappy when he sees the friendly rapport between Kat and Ash – and he’s even less impressed to learn of Morag’s new found evidence. He tells Kat that Zac will likely be released from gaol and Kat can’t hide her relief. Dylan’s annoyed but Kat reasons now they can concentrate on finding the real killer. Dylan counters that means he’ll be sticking around in Summer Bay a while longer; whether Kat likes it or not. Back in his office, alone, Dylan makes a phone call to someone… He’s got a problem he needs taken care of… And that problem is Martin Ashford.

VJ – taking Leah’s advice to have some fun – schemes with Skye to crash the uni party tonight. Skye’s hopeful that Oscar will be there. Roo, meanwhile, learns some concerning news from a uni colleague… And she immediately goes to Matt, telling him she’s just heard from one of his professors that he’s on the verge of failing a few of his courses this semester. Matt argues that it’s difficult trying to juggle uni with his shifts at Angelo’s, but Roo insists he needs to think long term, and put his uni work first. Matt promises to apply himself. Later, Matt’s trying his best to stick to his promise to prioritise his uni work, but he’s easily distracted by Maddy’s suggestion of some afternoon delight… So much for knuckling down!

Olivia seeks out Hunter and apologises for doing the sneaky DNA test. She can see his point of view – and that’s why Olivia’s not even going to open the envelope with the results. Once at home, however, Olivia can’t help herself. She takes a look at the DNA test results and is horrified by what she sees in front of her…

Later when Irene and Claire arrive home after a fun day out together, Olivia is on the couch looking like a ghost. As Claire runs upstairs, Olivia feels sick and apologises as she breaks the news to Irene – Claire is not your daughter…
