Extended Summary
Skye initially has doubts about sneaking into the University Party at Angelo’s, despite VJ’s carefree attitude. But she is soon keener when Oscar arrives. VJ teases her for crushing on Oscar, despite her denials. Inside the party, Maddy introduces a new uni friend to Oscar, Evie & Josh – Alessia – and she’s rather taken by Oscar. Later Maddy asks Matt to dance but he uses the fact he is working as an excuse. He doesn’t look like he’s having much fun.
Later, having made it inside, Skye is appalled when VJ begins table drinking. She moves off to hide but runs into Oscar and Alessia on the balcony making out. Meanwhile Billie, who’s stopped by just to have a quiet drink after a shift at the gym, decides to leave after having too much of being surrounded by students. As Billie goes to exit, she stumbles upon VJ and Skye and chastises them, insisting they leave with her. A now drunk VJ grumbles but Skye is only too happy to get out of there. The fresh air causes VJ to vomit, so Billie looks after him. He admits he only drank for escapism because so much has been happening at home. Billie sympathises and won’t dob him in.
Oscar heads out of the Surf Club with a different girl than before (not Alessia). Skye is shocked and decides to confront Oscar, lamenting this behaviour is not him. When the new girl learns he made out with another girl earlier, she storms off leaving a bewildered Oscar behind. Skye doesn’t back down, saying she’s only looking out for Oscar but he tells her off. Annoyed, he heads back inside leaving Skye alone. When Oscar confides what happened to his friends and sister, Evelyn spells it out – Skye obviously has a crush on him. Oscar had no idea. He later finds Skye and very gently tells her he’s not looking for a relationship right now… with anyone. Skye gets the hint but is noticeably disappointed. The two agree that they’re still friends.
Reeling from the DNA revelation, Irene and Claire try to find comfort in one another. Olivia attempts to help but Irene makes it clear she doesn’t want her around right now. Olivia finds Hunter but instead of sympathy they argue over her actions…until a mystery girl shows up – Lindsay. Hunter is completely thrown. Lindsay is trouble incarnate, quick to stir things up and reveal her connection to Hunter. Olivia is hurt to learn Hunter lied – when he ran away after Zac & Leah’s wedding, he stayed at Lindsay’s place the whole time. After Olivia leaves, Lindsay swears she’s only here as Hunter’s friend; she heard about his dad being arrested. Hunter is wary but can’t dismiss her completely after what she did for him after the wedding.
Returning home, Olivia offers a sincere apology to Irene, who softens. Olivia is surprised to learn Claire is going to be staying longer – Irene and Claire don’t want to lose their bond. Olivia apologises to Claire for going behind her back and even suggests they all do something fun together since she’s staying longer. Irene and Claire try to carry on as normal but something feels forced about it all – it’s too painful to admit things have fundamentally shifted. Claire feels it will be more painful the longer they draw this out so she decides to leave. They’re both left heartbroken by the turn of events. A tired and wounded Irene is later comforted by Alf as she confides she’s done; too hurt to continue with the search for her child.
With the party almost over, Maddy wonders why Matt was unable to work and still have fun like he promised. He admits he’s been struggling with everything about university, not just his course work. While everyone else is having a ball he isn’t really enjoying any of it. Maddy encourages him to hang in there but Matt shocks her by revealing he’s already made up his mind – he’s quitting uni.
Hunter and Olivia reconcile, agreeing to disagree about what she did with the DNA test. Lindsay however is a different topic. Olivia is wary, asking if Hunter slept with Lindsay? Hunter’s shocked, saying of course he didn’t. He reassures Olivia she has nothing to worry about with Lindsay and she won’t come between them. The couple seem back on track until the manipulative Lindsay shows up again. She ‘accidentally’ drops the bombshell Hunter and her kissed when he stayed those few days.
