Nate learns the truth about his father. Will Kat connect Charlotte to Trystan’s death? Can Ash help Phoebe relax?
Extended Summary
Gavin arrives at Nate’s place, slightly tipsy and looking to spend more time with his son. Nate lets him in, completely unaware that he’s just groped Ricky at Angelo’s. Back at the restaurant, Ash can’t believe what Gavin did, and wants Ricky to tell Nate, but she’s torn – Nate and Gavin have only started talking again, and Ricky doesn’t want to ruin things.
Kat tries to convince Emerson that they need to keep investigating Charlotte, as her story about Trystan doesn’t add up – they are connected somehow. Emerson reminds her she isn’t a homicide detective, but she stresses how important it is that they don’t let Charlotte walk free if she’s a murderer. Meanwhile, as Charlotte continues her relationship with Kyle, she receives a call from Gunno, ordering her to meet him at prison. Charlotte makes an excuse and leaves, dreading what lies ahead.
Ash notices Ricky stalling, and sends her off to talk to Nate about Gavin, assuring her it’s the right thing to do. Phoebe arrives after her first day as the school music tutor, frustrated that the students aren’t more excited about music. Ash tells her not to overthink it, but Phoebe’s determined to go back in with a well-prepared plan of attack.
Ricky gets home to find Nate playing cards with Gavin, who acts as if he nothing happened at Angelo’s earlier. Nate picks up on Ricky’s discomfort, but she covers for Gavin. Gavin leaves, and Nate tells Ricky that they had fun together, making her more uncomfortable about telling him about what Gavin did.
Charlotte meets Gunno at prison, and he asks her what happened to Trystan. Charlotte claims it was an accident. Gunno tells her that even though Trystan’s gone, she’s still not off the hook, and Charlotte’s backed into a corner again.
Ash tries to distract Phoebe as she continues to obsess about work, but she’s got a one-track mind, and tells him to either help her or let her do it herself. Ash is at a loss, but still wants to find a way to help Phoebe unwind somehow.
Charlotte tells Gunno that she’s tried everything to find out if Brax is still alive, but he wants her to move onto Ash next. Charlotte refuses, and points out that with Trystan dead, Gunno has no proof that she killed Denny. Gunno’s impressed, and before Charlotte leaves, she wants to agree on a cover story for her visit.
Unable to hide the truth any longer, Ricky admits that there’s a problem with Gavin. Nate confronts his father, and Gavin offers to talk to Ricky. But Nate’s had enough, then Gavin insults him, and Nate’s old, unspoken anger comes flooding out. Nate tells Gavin he doesn’t ever want to see him again, and watches him leave, washing his hands of his father for good.
That night, Phoebe hits a wall as she tries to prepare more for her next class. The door bursts open, revealing Ash wearing a robe. He turns some music on and does a strip tease for her. Phoebe stops him before he goes all the way, feeling lucky she’s got a boyfriend that will embarrass himself for her. She agrees that she needed the distraction, and they tumble towards the bedroom.
Emerson tells Kat he made some calls, and has found out that Trystan has been working with Gunno. He also discovered that Gunno is the prime suspect for running Brax’s prison transfer vehicle off the road. Kat thinks it’s too much of a coincidence, and her mind races as she tries to work out how Charlotte fits in. Meanwhile Charlotte arrives at Kyle’s with champagne, in the mood to celebrate after dealing with Gunno. As Kyle goes to get some champagne glasses, Charlotte notices she’s still wearing her prison visitor’s pass, and takes it off, hiding it with her things. When he comes back she pulls him towards the bedroom with a mischievous grin.
Nate reveals that he didn’t want Gavin around Ricky and Casey after what he did, so he told him to leave the Bay. Ricky apologises for contacting him in the first place, but Nate is glad that he got tot tell him what he put his family through all those years ago. Nate leaves for work, but Ricky wonders if he really is as alright as he says he is. At work, Nate finds a patient being wheeled in after his car hit a tree. Nate’s shocked as he realises it’s his father.
As Kat and Emerson try to figure out Charlotte’s connection to Gunno and Trystan, they receive a phone call from the prison. Kat finds Charlotte at the surf club dropping Kyle off for work, and asks her if she visited Gunno in prison today. Is Charlotte’s game finally up?
