Extended Summary
Nate’s father, Gavin, tries to convince Nate that he wants to make up for walking out on him and his mother. Nate’s torn, so Gavin suggests a small step – dinner tonight, with Ricky. Nate agrees to it, but he’s still harbouring doubts.
Evelyn visits Andy and tells him that Josh wrote a note to her saying “YOUR FAULT” at the hospital. She breaks down, and Andy does his best to comfort her. Oscar and Maddy arrive at the hospital to see Josh. Hannah checks if he’s up to it, but Josh shakes his head. Josh overhears Maddy and Oscar’s messages of love and support, but he’s still scared and vulnerable. Back at Andy’s, Evelyn has fallen asleep on the couch, and he leaves her to rest.
Nate’s nervous as he and Ricky make their way to dinner with Gavin. Ricky tries to calm him, and is proud of him for putting himself out there. Nate’s worried it’s going to be a complete disaster, but deep down he hopes Gavin is going to surprise him. They find Gavin, nervous too, and Ricky breaks the ice with a small joke. After some awkward small talk, Gavin reveals he got Nate into kayaking, and they relax a little, all hopeful the old wounds keep healing.
At hospital, Andy tells Josh that Evelyn was upset by what he wrote. Josh doesn’t want to hear about it, and pushes his tray away in protest, sending his food flying, and leaving Andy scared for Josh’s state of mind. Hannah thinks Josh’s fears for the future are making him push people away, and he needs time to come to terms with everything. Andy just wants him back, and takes comfort in her arms. He promises to keep trying to help his brother.
As their night together ends, the conversation now flows freely between Ricky, Nate and Gavin. Ricky invites Gavin to the beach with Casey and herself. Gavin accepts Ricky’s offer, and moves off to pay for dinner. Nate can’t believe the side of Gavin he’s seeing tonight, but thinks it’s still too early to tell if he’s changed.
The next morning Evelyn comes home on her way to the hospital. She tells Maddy and Oscar that she’s not going to let Josh push her away, but Alf suggests she give him some time to himself. But Evelyn is determined to be there for Josh, leaving the others concerned. Evelyn arrives at the hospital with some magazines to read to Josh, but he doesn’t want her there, and flails his arms at her. Hannah enters, and seeing Josh’s reaction to Evelyn, steers her out of the room. Hannah explains that Evelyn’s visits will hamper his recovery, and she doesn’t have to be there with him to be a good friend. Evelyn heads off, and Hannah catches up with Nate, surprised when he reveals his father is in town. Nate’s hopeful that things between them will get better after last night, but knows it’s still early days.
At the beach, Ricky notices Gavin checking her out, and he pays her some sleazy compliments. After his swim, Gavin continues to come onto her, leaving Ricky feeling uneasy.
Andy avoids Hannah at the hospital, and she tells Nate that she thinks it’s because he still has feelings for her. Desperate to get it off her chest, she admits she’s got some feelings for Andy too. Nate thinks that if she’s not going to act on her feelings, she has nothing to feel guilty about. Nate moves off, but his advice hasn’t put her at ease.
Nate takes Casey off Ricky’s hands, and she covers up Gavin’s slimy behaviour when Nate asks about him. But when Ricky arrives at work, she finds Maddy distressed, unable to handle a drunk customer – and it’s Gavin!
Hannah finds Andy near the water and tells him she’s his friend, and wants to support him as he looks after Josh. But Andy can’t be friends – he still loves her. Andy tells Hannah to stay away from him and stalks off, their messy situation getting even more complicated.
Ricky tells Gavin to leave, but he keeps harassing her, and she threatens to call the police. Gavin stands up and apologises, then gropes her, forcing Ricky to lose her cool and kick him out. How is she going to explain this to Nate?
