Alf joins Roo, absorbed by a letter from James. Roo reveals that James has left Megan and is in counselling, but Alf isn’t impressed – he thought she was moving on. Roo’s angry that Alf doesn’t trust her judgement, and gives Alf the letter before marching off.
Andy finds a specialist in Josh’s room, and Hannah explains that he’s come to do more tests. Greg arrives to speak to Andy, advising him that the education department have agreed to give Josh special consideration – as far as they’re concerned, Josh has completed his HSC. Greg also offers to pay any of Josh’s out-of-pocket medical expenses. Andy thanks him, but is still worried about Josh’s recovery.
Nate walks along the beach with Gavin, who compliments him on becoming a doctor. Nate assumes that Gavin just wants money, and reminds him what a lousy father and husband he was. Gavin’s eager to start putting things right, but Nate rejects him, telling his father that he doesn’t need him anymore.
Hannah exits Josh’s room, and is shattered as she tells Andy the specialist’s results – Josh is blind. Andy’s floored.
Alf finds Roo on the beach, and tells her he read the letter. He believes that James is just telling Roo what she wants to hear, and asks her when she’s going to see what he’s trying to do? Roo can’t take it and walks away as she tries to get herself together.

But Andy’s not interested, and fires up when Chris blows up at him. Andy stalks off, leaving John and Chris wondering what his problem is.
Alf apologises to Roo, and she admits that she still loves James despite everything he’s done. She feels more lost than ever, and thinks she needs to get away for a while. Alf moves outside, as he tries to figure out a way he can support his daughter.
Gavin finds Ricky at the diner and asks for her help in getting through to Nate. Gavin desperately wants to undo the damage he’s done, but knows he will not get a chance unless Ricky is on board.
Roo tells Alf she’s going to try some retail therapy with Maddy to get over James, but Alf does one better, handing her a cheque to fund a trip away. Roo doesn’t think it’s necessary, but Alf feels that she need it and this is the only thing he can do for her in this situation. Roo’s grateful, and accepts Alf’s loving gesture.
Evelyn tells Zac and Leah the news about Josh, and that she’s prepared to drop everything to help him recover. Leah hopes Evelyn doesn’t feel obligated to help Josh because she feels guilty, but she’s determined, and says that she’ll defer uni if she has to. Zac and Leah bite their tongues, scared that Evelyn’s making a huge mistake.
Ricky lets Nate know that Gavin is still in town, and reveals that he spoke to her. Nate’s angry, but Ricky thinks he shouldn’t push his father away – she’d give anything for Casey to know his dad. Nate finds Gavin on the beach, and cuts straight to the chase, offering him the chance to talk.
