Extended Summary
Nate’s still working on Kat as they pump adrenaline into her. James and Hannah have just come on shift and they rush in to help. Nate brings James up to date and James passes on instructions to Hannah. Hannah tells Nate to go, they’ve got this. She whispers to James that Kat’s his girlfriend. James agrees, telling Nate to leave. He wants to stay but Hannah is adamant he needs to get out. They continue to work on her as Nate steps out, barely holding it together. James manages to get her stable but she needs to get into surgery. As James updates Nate, Hannah rushes over saying Kat’s BP is dropping again. James instructs them to get her into surgery now or she’ll bleed out in front of them. Nate is stricken with fear.
At the diner, Roo’s passing on the bad news about Kat that she’s heard via James. Alf and Zac are both thinking of Nate. Andy walks in with Charlotte and Hunter and Roo gives Andy the update that Kat’s being taken into surgery. Andy tells them all that Josh is so lucky Kat was there. He’s taking Josh to the station tomorrow to make a statement and clear this mess up. Andy turns to Charlotte, apologizing that he can’t help them move tomorrow. Zac overhears and asks has Charlotte found a place? She has – the apartment above the diner! And Hunter’s moving in with her. Hunter’s going to be starting at Sumer Bay High as well. Zac’s glad; even offers to help them move. Back at home, Zac shares the news with Leah and VJ. VJ makes sure Zac will still be able to make his basketball try outs tomorrow? Zac’s positive he’ll be there. As VJ heads to bed, Zac can see Leah’s concerned about Charlotte and Hunter moving to the Bay permanently. She admits she’s wary, but she’s supportive of Zac getting to know his son.
Back at the hospital, Kat comes out of surgery. There were complications as the bullet went through her thoracic cavity. The next 24hours will be touch and go for her. Nate stays by her bedside all night and tells her she has to get through this. Ricky slips in to check on Nate just as he breaks down. Ricky goes to Nate to comfort him as he holds Kat’s hand, so scared he will lose her. The next morning, Ricky returns with a coffee for Nate. James and Hannah have started their shifts and check on Kat. Ricky suggests she take Nate for a short walk, just to get some air. Nate doesn’t want to leave but James thinks it’s a good idea; he’ll be here a while with Kat checking her anyway. Nate is reluctantly lead out by Ricky.
VJ is out for a surf and comes upon Hunter. He tries to reach out, saying he doesn’t want to have another go. He actually wants things to be cool between them. Hunter’s not having a bar of it, thinking he’s just trying to impress Zac. He’s being a tool, so VJ gives up and heads off. Hunter then meets up with Charlotte and Zac who’ve already started the moving. Charlotte shows them both the new digs above the diner. The apartment is awesome. While Hunter checks out his room, Charlotte thanks Zac for being so cool with everything. He admits it’s been a curve ball, but he’s excited to get to know Hunter. Charlotte’s amazed at what a good man Zac is. As the day progresses and Zac continues to help out, Charlotte and Zac bond. But Zac doesn’t hear his phone. He’s missed three calls from Leah.
At the hospital, Hannah’s checking on Kat’s vitals when she finally stirs and wakes up. Hannah tells her where she is and that she needs to take it easy. Kat asks for Nate and Hannah tells her he just stepped out with Ricky but she’ll call him. Nate returns and James comes in to check on Kat. She’s vastly improved and James believes she’ll recover well. As they all give Nate a moment alone with a still dozy Kat, Kat asks where was he when she woke up? He says he was here all night but Ricky dragged him out for some food this morning. He wishes he had been here. Kat’s visibly disappointed, but says it’s fine.
Leah’s still trying to get a hold of Zac, VJ’s anxious to leave for his tryouts as he needs time to warm up. Zac is still at Charlotte’s, enjoying a beer after unpacking, not realising the time. He goes to put down his beer and notices his phone. It was on silent. He rushes out, saying he’s going to be late for VJ’s tryouts. Charlotte calls out her thanks after him. Zac arrives home to Alf, who tells Zac he’s missed them. Leah took VJ herself. Zac’s in trouble! He catches up with them at the tryouts but later as they all return home, VJ’s clearly annoyed that Zac only caught the last bit of it. Leah asks what happened and Zac offers the lame excuse of losing track of time. Zac says he feels terrible but Leah gives him the cold shoulder.
Back at Charlotte’s, as her and Hunter eat dinner Charlotte is smiling to herself. Hunter asks if she’s thinking about Zac? She sure was laughing a lot as they were reminiscing today. Charlotte says that’s just what old friends do. Andy arrives and Charlotte jumps up to greet him. He joins them for dinner and then offers to clean up after, whilst roping in Hunter to help. Charlotte’s happy; that’ll give her the chance to do some more unpacking. As Andy and Hunter do the dishes, Charlotte opens a box with photos. She puts up a framed one of Hunter as a child then comes across an old photo of her and Zac. She smiles fondly and ponders. Does Charlotte have feelings for Zac?
