Extended Summary
Damo starts smashing stuff in the share house with his cricket bat. He asks Josh why he went to the cops? Damo’s got priors, if the cops get him he’ll be gone! Damo gets angry and starts swinging at Josh. Josh tries to calm him, saying he’ll say it was his stash. Will it work?
At the hospital, Nate’s explaining to Kyle the situation. His kidneys are now only operating at 14% capacity; they need to get him on dialysis. Phoebe asks if that’s just to give his kidneys time to recover? Nate is solemn. Kyle asks if what his saying is that Kyle will have to be on dialysis for the rest of his life? Nate just answers at the moment, it’s either dialysis or Kyle will die. The group process the news outside as Nate explains that there’s a slim chance he could get a transplant but the waiting list is long. Meanwhile at the Diner, Irene, Roo & John are discussing the Surf Club sponsors drinks coming up, with Casey in his stroller. Irene asks where Marilyn is and John says she’s gone to Ricky’s because they realised they were low on formula. Then Evie comes in and goes to Roo at the counter and orders a piece of cake with ice cream. Roo knows what that means. Evie admits she broke up with Josh.
Back at the share house, Damo’s questioning Josh about how he’s going to get him out of this. The cops found the stash in Damo’s room! As Damo gets more agro, we see Marilyn looking through the window, who’s come for the baby formula. She quickly darts out of view and calls the police. It doesn’t take long for Kat to arrive. She asks Marilyn what she saw and then asks her to wait outside while Kat gets a closer look. As she peers through the window she sees Damo getting more angry. He goes to swing at Josh again so Kat calls out. Damo sees her and immediately gets Josh in a head lock and warns Kat to back off. She talks to him calmly, saying she wants to hear his side of the story. She steps inside, but Damo says it won’t be a friendly talk when she’s got a gun. Kat decides to take her gun out of it’s holster and put in on the table near the door to convince him to talk. Damo says the only way Kat can help him is if she goes away. Kat says she can’t do that, but if he cooperates, she can help Damo. Damo’s unsure.
Maddy and Oscar are trying to cheer up Evie after the break up, looking for a funny movie to go and see when Andy walks into the diner. He asks if they’ve heard from Josh, he’s not answering his phone. Evie tells Andy they broke up. He’s shocked; did Josh do something stupid again? Meanwhile, John is nearby on the phone to Marilyn, wondering what’s taking so long? John’s alarmed as Marilyn relays what’s happening and he tells her to get back to the diner.
At the hospital, Kyle is sleeping whilst Nate and Ricky chat. She asks Nate not to blame himself for Kyle’s health, she knows she pressured Nate into treating Kyle. Nate still believes as the doctor, he’s in the wrong. Ricky asks if he’s heard from Kat? Nate says she’s ignoring his calls. Little do they know, Kat is still in the stand off with Damo. She’s talking him down, slowly getting closer to him but he keeps backing away. Kat walks towards Damo and he backs up nearer the door. Kat assures him they’ll work it all out if he just puts the bat down. It seems like Damo is losing his wind and might comply but then, a siren sounds from a distance. Damo’s guard is back up; he thinks Kat is trying to trick him. Josh suddenly clocks Damo is getting very close to Kat’s gun on the table. Kat’s still pleading with Damo to listen to her. But Damo’s had it – he lunges for the gun just as Kat and Josh do the same…
John is rushing to the house with Andy, Maddy, Evie and Oscar, whilst on the phone to Marilyn telling her to stay at the diner with Casey until he calls. A police car pulls up outside the share house just as they all get there and Andy wants to go in; it’s his brother in there. Evie pulls him back saying Kat’s already in there, let the police handle it. Just as Andy’s ignoring her they all hear a gun shot – who’s been shot?
The group stand solemn outside the house as ambos rushes in. Then we see Josh walking out of the house. Evie and Andy rush to him, relieved he’s ok. A policeman brings Damo out in cuffs and takes him to the car. Then the ambulance officers wheel out a stretcher… and Kat’s on it. She’s been shot. They load her into the ambulance and take her away as the others watch is stunned silence. At the hospital, Ricky’s asleep next to Kyle’s bed when Nate coming in stirs her. He tells her she should head home, see Casey. He’ll call her if there’s any change. As she and Nate walk out of the room, they see a gurney roll by with Kat on it. Kat?! Nate asks the ambulance officers what happened, going straight into doctor mode. Ricky watches on stunned, as Nate struggles with his emotions as he treats her.
Ricky’s turned up at the share house and hugs Josh, glad he’s ok. She tells him she saw Kat coming into the hospital. He asks how she is but Ricky doesn’t know. As John takes Ricky off to see Casey, Evie and Josh have a moment alone. Josh tells Evie all he could think about in there was her and how they left things. She agrees. She’s so glad he’s ok. Josh goes to kiss Evie but she turns away. He’s hurt but Evie tells him all the reasons they broke up are still there. She can’t be with him. Evie leaves before her emotions get away from her. Andy later finds Josh and offers him a beer, which he turns down. Josh is waiting for a grilling from Andy but he says he thinks Josh has learnt his lesson. Evie will come around too. Josh isn’t so sure, he made a huge mistake. He doesn’t think he deserves forgiveness. Andy says he shouldn’t be too hard on himself but Josh points out someone did get hurt – Kat. At the hospital, Nate is working on Kat who’s losing blood rapidly, her BP’s dropping. Nate has to start heart compressions. Is Kat going to make it?
