Extended Summary

Brody comes out of his room and complains about Justin not waking him. He says he’ll eat his dinner out the back with the dog but Justin wants to go with him. Tori then comes home and, when they ask her about her day, just jabbers a bit and then retreats to her room. They conclude that she’s met a guy. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Kat tell Ash that she’s run into VJ in the corridor. VJ offers to take the night shift so Ash relinquishes the chair to him. Back at the Diner flat, Ash tells Kat about apologising to Irene and that he also feels bad about calling VJ a bad dad, although not about taking Luc. He notes that despite saying he’d step back VJ can’t stay away from Luc, but Ash doesn’t want to give her up.

Next morning, Tori is doing yoga on the beach but is distracted and overbalances when Ash, who has been surfing, greets her. Kat comes over and Tori gets increasingly flustered, hurrying off. Ash worries that there’s something she isn’t telling them but Kat suggests she’s just tired. Kat catches up with Tori at the surf club and wonders if her behaviour is because of what Kat said about Luc. She asks Tori to forget it. Ash comes in and Kat goes over to join him. Leah comes out of the gym and quickly clocks Tori looking at Ash.

Alf stops Brody going into the surf club, even though Brody insists he has the right to check on Salt. Alf tells him he’s a mess and that he knows what he did to Scarlett. The exchange grows increasingly heated and they end up exchanging blows until Kat steps in and drags Brody inside. She tells Alf that since Brody threw the first punch he can press charges but Alf declines. Justin turns up, having been summoned by Kat. Both of them try to tell Brody off but he isn’t interested. Kat tells him if he’s not careful he could spend five years in jail.

Irene and Olivia turn up at the hospital. Irene ignores a phone call that Olivia guesses is from Mick. They find VJ slumped asleep over Luc’s cot. Irene convinces him to go to the canteen and get a coffee. Olivia looks after him, torn, as he leaves. Later, she finds him sitting in the corridor. He says that he just wants Luc to wake up but won’t know what the doctors think until they have a meeting. He says he feels guilty for giving up on Luc when she was trying to tell him something was wrong.

Justin and Brody arrive home. Brody attempts to pre-empt Justin giving him a lecture about letting himself and the family down but Justin says there’s no point and whatever Brody thinks he’s not fine. Brody says that he knows but he can’t just decide to be better: He thinks about scoring all the time, just so he can feel normal, and knows he’s changed. Justin agrees that they don’t know how he’s feeling but says other people do. He drives Brody to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, apparently in the city, and says he’ll wait at a coffee shop down the road. The meeting leader, Des, notes they have new faces and invites them to introduce themselves. When he is met by silence, he carries on, saying they’re going to talk about family and addiction.

At the Diner, Leah teases Tori about fantasising about Ash but tells her there’s no harm in it. Tori heads back to the hospital and finds Ash in Luc’s room; he says he was having a moment. She tells him the result of the meeting: They’re going to take Luc off sedation and see if she breathes on her own. If she doesn’t, they’ll try again in 24 hours. In the corridor, Olivia gives Irene a coffee. Ash calls Irene over to explain what the doctors are doing. An unknown number rings Irene’s phone and Olivia answers, telling the “sicko” to leave Irene alone, but it quickly becomes clear it’s not Mick. When Irene comes back over, Olivia tells her it was Mick’s lawyer: He’s clearly not going to give up. Both of them express disbelief that Mick might be let out of the psych hospital. Irene still doesn’t want to upset things so soon after getting back on good terms with Leah and Ash, but Olivia points out Leah will be even more hurt if she hears from someone else.

Des points out to the meeting that Sarah’s story shows they can’t be responsible for anyone but themselves. Brody excuses himself and heads to the bathroom, splashing his face with water. A young woman, Ziggy, comes in and says he has to help her. They go outside and she says a nut job is after her for something she might have done. They hear a man calling Ziggy’s name and Brody hides her in the van. The man, Ben, appears and asks Brody if he’s seen a 19-year-old blonde girl in black shorts; Brody says he hasn’t. After Ben has gone, Brody lets Ziggy out and she runs off. Justin appears and sees Ziggy wave to Brody. He asks who she is; Brody says he has no idea.

Irene, Ash, Leah and VJ are waiting in the corridor when Tori appears; Kat isn’t there but they’re happy to go ahead without her. Tori says only Ash can come through and the others will have to wait. VJ tells Ash to give Luc a kiss from him when she wakes up. Tori turns the machines off and, after a bit of a wait and a nurse giving her air to get her going, Luc starts breathing unaided. Tori says it will take a while for her to come round. They head out into the corridor and inform the others; Ash hugs a slightly uncomfortable looking Tori. However, Irene continues to fret. Leah, VJ and Ash wonder what’s wrong. She tells them Mick wants access to Luc.
