Olivia’s shocked to learn the identity of Irene’s mystery man. Tori’s developing a crush. John’s friends rally around to help him reconcile his father’s actions.

Extended Summary

Hunter and Olivia meet at the diner, Hunter with lots of study to catch up on. Olivia observes Irene telling a phone caller to leave her alone, but when Olivia asks about it Irene tells her to mind her own business. Olivia’s interest is piqued. Later, Irene ignores a call and tells Olivia and Hunter it’s just telemarketers. Olivia doesn’t seem to believe her. Olivia calls Fin and learns Irene might have a secret boyfriend, that’s what all the phone calls must mean. Hunter doesn’t want to think about Irene’s love life but Olivia thinks it’s great. She wonders who it is? At home, Olivia nags at Irene about her secret man. Irene’s bewildered, what boyfriend? Olivia thinks it’s great, Irene deserves to be happy. Irene’s shocked to learn Olivia’s spoken to Fin and becomes agitated. Hunter goes upstairs, seeing an argument rising. Irene explodes, it’s not a boyfriend, it’s Mick. She’s been visiting her son! Olivia’s gobsmacked. Olivia’s surprised Mick’s allowed visitors after everything he’s done, but Irene says the facility works towards rehabilitation. Olivia doesn’t understand how Irene can have anything to do with Mick, not after he kidnapped her and attacked Billie. Irene explains Mick wants access to Luc, regular visits. Irene told him it was insane but he wouldn’t listen, so she went to see him to shut him down. Olivia thinks she should tell the others, but Irene can’t – she’s just got things back on track with Leah and Ash. She just hopes Mick sees sense and backs off. And if he doesn’t? Irene doesn’t have an answer.

Tori checks on Baby Luc. Ash has stayed the night in the room. They’re waiting for test results but hopefully the infection is starting to clear. Luc is through the most difficult period though. Irene visits Luc at the hospital. Tori has good news, the test results show Luc is improving. Ash hugs Tori in thanks. He’s a bit emotional hearing Luc should be okay. Tori suggests he take a break and offers to take him for a meal for an hour now her shift is over. Ash grudgingly accepts and Irene stays with Luc. After a swim, Ash feels better and thanks Tori for everything. He feels guilty for not knowing anything was wrong with Luc, but Tori assures him no one could have known. Ash worries he was so down on Irene, VJ and Leah because he thought they weren’t looking after her properly. Tori reassures that they will understand, they all love Luc, that’s what matters. Tori offers to get some food for them. At the surf club Ash notes Tori’s mood seems down suddenly. She admits she’d forgotten about her family’s dramas for a minute but then she walked into Salt and all the stress returned. Ash thinks it must be hard with Brody, but if she needs anything all she needs to do is ask. The sense that these two have found a confidante in one another. Tori thinks Ash is doing enough for them with Raffy staying at the apartment already, and he’s got Luc to worry about. But Ash likes helping people, it’s good for the soul. Tori smiles, Ash is a good guy. Tori and Ash return to the hospital. Irene notes Ash looks a bit fresher and Ash apologises for everything he’s said to Irene about Luc. He was wrong. Irene thanks him but it’s not necessary. Having seen the whole interaction, Tori can’t help but admire Ash. Tori helps Ash to hold Luc, it’s great to be able to hold Luc again. Tori watches Ash and Luc fondly. Tori is clearly developing a huge crush on Ash.

John finds an upset Marilyn still outside Irene’s house. She thought he wanted to come home. John does, but not like this, not just because Marilyn is feeling sorry for him. Marilyn says that all his memories prove none of this was his fault, he’s a good man, the man she married. John disagrees. What if he can’t be healed? All John has is more questions. Marilyn wants to help but John doesn’t think she can. He wants to know why, why his father killed himself, why John and his mother weren’t enough for him. Marilyn can’t fix this, it’s better he’s alone. Alf doesn’t understand why John wouldn’t want to move back home. Jett thinks they could go back to the town and speak to other people. Marilyn decides to call Bede. Alf’s got an idea of his own. Alf visits John at Irene’s and finds him crying alone in his room. John worries he’s going to end up like his father. John explains his father committed suicide and his worries he might go down the same path. He just needs time to wrap his head around things. Alf suggests he shouldn’t push people away and maybe he should speak to the counsellor again. John doesn’t want to burden Marilyn anymore than he already has. Alf tells him Marilyn is strong and loyal, he’d be a mug to let her go. John finds Marilyn and Jett at the Pier. At the end of the day, why his father did what he did isn’t as important as making sure the trait isn’t passed on to future generations. John admits he needs professional help. He’s even made his first appointment. Marilyn and Jett are proud and John’s happy he can count on them both. John’s ready to come home. John and Marilyn go for a walk together while Jett watches on from the shore, happy his parents are back together. Alf is pleased to see Marilyn and John have mended things. Jett leaves the Bay now that things are back to how they should be.
