Extended Summary
Scarlett’s furious Bruno, an ex-colleague and private investigator, has sought her out on behalf of a client. Scarlett wants to be left alone, but Bruno’s client needs a report. He offers to put his client off her trail for eight thousand dollars, if Scarlett’s willing to pay. She’s got 24 hours to make a decision or he tells his client where she is. Who’s looking for Scarlett and what happened in her past? At the bait shop, Alf overhears Scarlett failing to secure a short term loan over the phone. Justin arrives and Scarlett’s disappointed to learn that Brody spent all her money. Justin also asks if Scarlett would represent Brody at the bail hearing tomorrow, but Alf’s incredulous Justin could even ask – Brody stole her money! Scarlett offers to make some calls, maybe she can get the name of a local lawyer. Alf finds Scarlett crying over her charm necklace but she tries to brush off his concern. She promises there’s nothing dodgy going on, but admits she’s hiding – from her husband! He wasn’t a bad man and they were very happy, but something happened and she had to leave. As Scarlett becomes emotional again, Alf calms her, he doesn’t need the details but he’s obviously worried for her. Alf offers Scarlett the money to pay off Bruno, but she declines and asks him not to tell anyone about it, so Alf goes to the Morgans to find a way to help Scarlett out. Scarlett pops into the Morgans after Tori called her and waves off Tori’s thanks for helping with Brody’s bail. Tori lets her know that they intend to pay Scarlett back the ten thousand dollars Brody stole from her, she just needs to transfer it, it’s the least the Morgans can do for her. Scarlett’s grateful but tries to downplay how much she needs the cash right now. At the diner, Scarlett hands a cheque to Bruno. He warns her that if he can find her, someone else can too. Scarlett’s confident no one will find her and he gives his word he won’t tell anyone, but she needs to do a better job of hiding. Alf catches the end of the interaction and Scarlett lets him know it’s all sorted, he doesn’t need to worry.
At the police station Kat lets the Morgans know Brody’s been charged with theft and his bail hearing will be tomorrow, although because he’s a flight risk he may not make bail at all. The Morgans wanted rehab, not prison! Tori worries they’ve done the wrong thing but Mason and Justin reassure her – Brody was out of control, this is the right thing to do. Now they need a lawyer. Brody stews to Tori, he can’t believe Justin called the cops. He blames Justin for everything and goes on a paranoid rant. Tori remains calm, telling Brody the drugs have made him paranoid and sick. Scarlett finds a lawyer for Brody in Yabbie Creek and advises Justin that to improve Brody’s chances of making bail, they should assert that Brody will live in the house with them. Knowing Brody will try to make a run for it, Justin suggests to Mason and Tori that they put Salt up as a guarantee for bail. If they put up something Brody cares about, he’s less likely to do a runner. They’re also going to have to have someone home with Brody at all times, then hopefully once the proper trial comes around Brody will be willing to go to rehab. Justin, Tori, Mason and even Raffy discuss how they can alter their work and school lives to be around for Brody. The older siblings agree that Raffy should move out while Brody’s coming off the drugs. Raffy stalks out, feeling like she’s not really a part of the family. At the diner, Kat offers to have Raffy stay with her for a while. In the morning, Brody’s in a bad mood before the bail hearing. Justin tells him to grin and bear it or he’ll lose Salt. Brody’s angry the family made that decision without him but Justin doesn’t budge. They head into the hearing. Later, Tori receives a call – Brody’s made bail and is on his way home. The Morgans are happy. Raffy has mixed feelings but sucks it up, she just wants Brody to get better… and an iPad! Justin brings Brody home while Kat’s picking up Raffy for her move. Raffy’s happy Brody’s back but Brody’s confused about her leaving with her bags, somewhat affected. Once Raffy and Kat are gone, Brody exclaims he would never hurt Raffy, this is everyone else’s fault! Tori’s had enough and blows up at Brody. She knows the drugs have messed with his brain, but he’s betrayed all of them and they’re still here trying to help him. If Brody wants to blame someone, he should look in the mirror. Suitably chastened, Brody heads for his room. Has Tori got through to him? Later, Justin, Mason and Tori debrief in the kitchen. Brody enters and acknowledges he can see he’s hurt his family and apologises. He’s going to try to get better. He leaves the room and Tori wonders if he meant it. Justin thinks he wants to, but he wouldn’t bet on it happening just yet.
Marilyn drops in on John at Irene’s, she hasn’t seen him in a while and is wondering how he’s processing everything. Cold, John claims he’s been doing a lot of walking and thinking. Marilyn offers to listen, but John pushes her away. In the morning, John’s annoyed to find Marilyn in Irene’s kitchen, making him breakfast before inviting herself on one of his walks. Marilyn doesn’t think he can go through this all alone, she wants to be there to help him. John sets her straight. He doesn’t want to go out and he doesn’t want to see anybody – that includes Marilyn and Jett. If she cared for him she’d leave him alone. Marilyn’s left feeling helpless and shut out. Alf runs into Marilyn at the diner and sets her straight on John, she can’t give up on him, she’s tigress Marilyn Chambers after all! Buoyed, Marilyn knows what she has to do. Marilyn visits John again. She wants him to know he’s not alone. John tries to push her away again, but Marilyn’s determined. She asks him to move home and is shocked when John tells her he can’t.
